  • I use a sweet potato and a peeled zucchini squash as well! YUM!

  • That's nice.

  • i have a question i am disabled so i cant really shred the patatos, but can i use the frozen hash brown patatos instead of the patatos? i understand that fresh is the best but i have limpted use of my hands...

  • @GypsyFairyVamp Unfortunately you need raw unwashed potatoes to make it stick together. You can easily find mechanic graters though - this can already make it much easier. Or have a look in your local IKEA store. They might sell them frozen in the food section.

  • The food of the Jew bear!

  • Thanks for the recipe. It looks great and in fact, I'm going to try some today.

  • This seems like a good one. I rather agree with hipp6y with the baking powder since the powder is used as a levening agent to increase the volume of the dish. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't most Jewish dishes such as Potato Latkes made unlevened?

  • baking powder?!

    crap

  • its better if you dont squeeze out all the water

  • True. Its starch in the potatoes (thats in the water) that makes em' real nice 'n crispy!

  • oh man i can practically smell them

  • Can I make these witho other veggies such as yams, sweet potatoes or zuchini?

  • i just made a 2nd batch (the 1st batch less talked about the better lol) but man these taste nice! i add a thin layer of stilton over the top when they are done cooking and it doesnt half help bring out that much extra flavour! (at least in my opinion any way) :D

  • Im making Latkes for the first time and im not Jewish, Should I follow this Recipe? And do I make a meal with them or eat them like a snack?

  • sounds good

  • hash browns..

  • It's fried onion and potato.

    SO yeah XD

    It's a hash patty.

  • rosti

  • moms is better

  • chive and garlic too! skip the baking powder

  • @jamieball shut your fucking mouth, NEVER EVER put garlic in it otherwise it confuses the palette

  • @hellishheavin101 what crawled up your ass and died? What are you a Jewish Latke Snob?? wtf

  • @jamieball why would anything crawl up my ass, that has nothing to do with latkes and just because i defend the originality of this dish doesn't make me a snob

  • @hellishheavin101 Well you seem pretty hostile towards me over a potato pancake.. fucking weirdo

  • @jamieball well that just means your a paranoid fuck, i never threatend you in any way ........fucking hypacrit

  • @hellishheavin101 Stop wasting my time you useless waste of human

  • @jamieball sure...

  • I eat these with tartar sauce.... Om nom nom nom nom nom.

  • the baking powder is useless since it won't be evenly distributed in the mixture and skip cooking in oil and just cook in a nonstick pan for a much healthier version.

  • good point. and, if keeping kosher, baking powder would not be permitted.

  • Why would baking powder not be permitted?

  • baking powder has cream of tartar. calcium tartarate is derived from the skins of grapes after the wine and alcohol have been removed. there are some baking powders that are certified kosher. be sure to read the can.

  • Thanks for the reply

so perhaps your earlier comment could have read and if keeping kosher any one keeping kosher would for sure have a baking powder with a hecsher therefore it would be permitted, here in Jerusalem Israel it's not a problem.

Happy Chanuka anyway, enjoy those oncea year oily foods, remember Shavouos and all that cheesecake:)

  • Sweeet

  • This is just hashbrowns. : /

We add sharp cheddar cheese and onions to ours. Ser Gut :D

  • its sehr gut

  • Yeeskull says Followed the video but it only made 6 and I burned my new Cuisinart fry pan. It was on 3 High. Don't use this recipe.

  • How do latkes "clog 'em arteries"? There's no cholesterol in it.

Can get you fat? Yes. Clog arteries? No!

  • seriously? go to wiki and look up eggs. but they're still incredibly tasty. Once a year isn't going to kill you. Plus, though there's cholesterol in eggs, it doesn't hurt you the way that bacon cholesterol does.

  • There are eggs? Hahaha sowwy I missed it, lol. Right there's cholesterol in eggs then, but frankly latkes are not going to clog'em arteries like red meat would.

Thanks for your comment, lol, I never made latkes!

  • delicious. you've got to hit that.

  • good receipe --I add green chillies to mine and it turns out very good if you like hot food

    fali

  • Good easy receipe-- I add some green chillies to it and it tests very good

  • I think the difference this that a latke has onion but hashbrowns don't.

  • The 2007 Grand Prize Winner for White Castles Recipe Contest was Potato Latkes. Check it out. It's amazing what they do with those slyders. It's nice to take an old recipe and put a new twist on it.

  • Что это было?

  • Why are they white? Is that your question?

  • This is hashbrowns, wtf.

  • Yep. for Hanukkah thats one thing Jews' love to eat. Latkes clogs em' arteries from generation to generation. =) Another Hanukkah food is called Suvganiot, which is a jelly donut cooked in oil.

  • they are holiday foods. but, i'm sure you're the picture of health. before you criticize, do a little research. the traditional kosher foods are not grease laden like most american foods. we eat heathier than you think. they are leaner, richer in dietary fiber, fresher and prepared by strict dietary standards. fresh meats, legumes, vegetables, and without meat fats to fry them.

  • U are telling me not to criticize and yet u are criticizing me? For 1 thing, I never criticized (I think u misread my comment or assumed too much - like my health 'which is quite good') because my comment was actually a explanation with a joke - hence the =).

I never said ALL traditional kosher foods were greasy - ur idea. Kosher food can be prepared healthy (exception kugles or cholent on shabbos =P

BTW, just b/cuz something is kosher doesn't make it health. EX: Coke is kosher not healthy
