Come join EMS. You will need the most training out of all public safety to be the lowest paid. You'll have a bad back by the age of 30 and be the first in line to be exposed to any current pandemic. You'll also have paperwork coming out of the wazoo, which they never show in these videos. You'll get to meet the people that abuse the 911 system and beg you for pain meds while the sick people drive themselves to the hospital. As an 11 year veteran, I wouldn't have it any other way. In my state, EMT-B lasts one month (fast track), or four months (normal track). FR lasts two weeks, so you're right all the way (no, I'm not trying to gratify you). But in my opinion, EMT-B and FR are similar in my area.

@floridamedic2 Or first responder. But since FR and EMT-B are similar, I'd personally go for the EMT-B.

@engine173351 I don't know where your from but FR and EMT - B or even D are not the same or similiar in anyways. The class for FR is like 12 days and the EMT course is like half a year. FR is to give first care on upon the scene as an EMT has more qualities.

i worked in dallas for about a year, and got out of ems in 04. im currently going back the school, to recert, because i miss it soo much. its my calling to work in ems, and ever time i watch this vid, it makes me want to get back into it that much more. cant wait.

as a 12 year veteran who runs about 1200 calls / year--personally-- in a large midwestern city EMS third service, this is pretty exciting. but I must ask--where is the footage of helping an elderly woman put on her slippers , grabbing an elderly gent's hat, or putting a 4x4 on a boil on someone's butt? I think you should also show cleaning vomit off your floor or feces off the cot. THESE are the realities of EMS . plus you meet some very interesting people both as colleagues and patients

Volunteers: You get what you pay for. This profession will never be taken seriously when there are Rickie Rescues and private, for-profit companies out there, making us professionals look bad. Australia has us beat, hands-down in prehospital emergency medical care. There are 3 emergency public services, police, fire AND EMS.
