Thanks for posting this video. I agree - this song should have been a big hit. I agree with the theory that it's just one of those mysteries involving the music scene. It's great music from a great time! Great effort by all connected with it!
You're so right. This song sounds like a Top 10 hit to me. I wonder why it didn't make the charts. One of those mysteries of pop music, I guess, where songs that almost didn't get recorded made it to #1 and songs like this were considered just album "filler".
Wait! I musta didnt say it right. I think all the Monkees (with possible exception of Pete) had better than average voices and vocal ability. But when I hear this song, I think that Mickey was one of the better pop singers of that era (66 thru 69).
Right again. Truthfully, I thought Micky and Mike were the best vocalists. Peter could be cute too. davy annoyed me sometimes. You could always understand micky and Mike, not so with Davy. I don't believe it had anything to do with his English accent though.
I wondered who wrote this song. Not surprised to hear it was David Gates. He was a real talent. Also, the first album, though apparently viewed as having one or two hits (Monkees theme and Last Train to Clarksville), was a fine LP start to finish. This song, for example, should have at least gotten into the Top 40.

You're right, friend. Micky was definitely the best vocalist in the band.

Mine too. Come to think of it, Mickey Dolenz never got credit for being a pretty good vocalist.

One of my favorites from the eponymous first LP. Penned by David Gates in his pre-Bread days. Great job, NezHEad!!
