Try a reel mower. Those things rock. No power used (other than what was used to manufacture the thing.... and I guess the extra food you have to eat to push it).
But you have to do it often, and it sucks with thick bladed grass.
one problem, electric mowers make all their pollution at the power plant instead of your yard. So what? The power companies don't know which day of the week you mow your lawn and really wouldn't care because they can't control output that precisely. all they care about is that they are making more power than you use. so, they just make pollution all week long to make sure they don't get a blackout. Which mean an electric mower makes seven times as much pollution as a gas mower.
1. It only costs about $5/year to use the electric lawn mower.
2. The electric company will produce the same amount of electricity regardless of whether or not you use the electric mower because it uses so little electricity.
3. You can actually see the gas mowers polluting with their emissions. Not only that, they're nosier as well (adding to noise pollution).
Therefore, AN ELECTRIC MOWER DOES NOT MAKE 7 TIMES THE AMOUNT OF POLLUTION GAS MOWERS MAKE.
gas mowers sound cool lokk cool and have more power than electric which only has as much hp as only 1/2 hich standard gas engines have 4/5 to 8hp gas has more power torque and doesnt stall unless you hit a rock
@seekanddestroy1200 Actually your wrong, 1/2 HP for an electric motor is more powerful then a 4 HP gas engine, and your right! Electric motors do have much more power and torque and doesn't stall everytime you hit a rock
HA, look who's an idiot ,$5 a year, that's bullshit! my mower runs on propane and burns cleaner and mows tall grass without any trouble, now try cutting tall grass and see how the electric mowers handle heavy load, and see how long the motor last before burning up, i don't mean by when the motor get a little warm, stopping it and giving it a cool down time before resuming again, gas mowers don't need cool down time, mow it all until it's done, electric mowers couldn't do that!!
That wasn't my argument Einstein. My argument was about refuting atillathehun3's claim about pollution, not about power, not about stalling. Obviously if you're cutting tall grass, you're going to need something with more power. But with regular lawns, what's wrong with electric? clean and efficient. No need to worry about running out of fuel.
oh yea, then after 3 to 5 years... the motor burns up on it. i'll stick with my propane lawn mower, and my propane mower cuts really good thru tall grass.... why would i need more power? and 2 that 20 lbs propane tank last me all mowing season when it took me 1.5 hours of mowing my yard and you don't have to worry about drgging cords around, or buying new batteries :P
Stick with your propane then. My lawn is small, no need for any gas or propane at all. Mower cost me about $230, so if it lasts 5 years, I'm happy. Give me some links to some sites that say how long an electric mower lasts, cuz I can't find any.
But my whole point was not which one was better. Here's the last line of my first comment: "Therefore, AN ELECTRIC MOWER DOES NOT MAKE 7 TIMES THE AMOUNT OF POLLUTION GAS MOWERS MAKE." And you go off calling me an idiot, for something completely unrelated to what I was saying. *confused*

wel at least be a little more specific about that, if you got a small yard, then no need for a gas mower, then i know why ya need an electric mower
