This is a cool song and a well-put-together video, but I just hate anime music videos that have subtitles. Aren't we supposed to be listening to the lyrics?
@GalacticBloopy Generally yes, I would have to agree with the no subtitles bit. The only reason why this one has the subs is because I couldn't find raws of the series. Plus it's the first ever AMV I've ever made, so it's nothing spectacular. Besides, at least the subs fit the lyrics for the most part, including the count downs. :P
First time hearing the original. I like both versions. The other version, by: 'Shiny Toy Gun's has more of 'panic' feel. While these has more of a 'calmer, I'm in a trance' sort of feeling to it.
This really well done AMV congratulations on your talent. Try doing doing one with Shiny Toy Guns-Burning for you over some "Saint Seiya" I think that would be really dope.

We actually do a lot of trading with Japan. As for hatred, I'm sure there may still be some lingering distrust from the elder generations, but most young people and the government have since forgiven the situation. Shoot, the US even has a free visit type setup going (think like visiting Canada or Mexico where you don't need a green-card) on and you're free to visit without much hassle.
@Isaiah293 The younger generation has more or less forgiven everything that's happened. What's in the past is in the past. Even the younger generation in China (and the Japanese killed a LOT of Chinese) have long forgotten and forgiven the atrocities of the war. And sadly enough, once the elder generation passes, the only way the youths of the next generation will ever learn from the past is through textbooks.... And those sometimes don't always provide the most accurate information....

So, history will ultimately be skewed in favor of those who won the war, and the other side of the story (the losers) are long forgotten and drowned out into the depths of peoples' minds. It kind of makes the whole "learn from the mistakes of the past" seem trivial because we're only fed one side of the story. Much like what happened with the Valkyrie incident.... :-/

Then after millions have died again the world will go through the same cycle of forgetting history over and over … Nothing ever changes. Did you mean at the beginning of the video? Or just the entire video in general? The beginning was just, well the beginning. I needed a scene. The rest of the video is primarily just clips in an attempt to portray the story told in the song. The series I used just happened to be mainly female characters. /shrug. I hope that sort of answered your question?

Very well done. I'm very impressed with how well the words to the song tied to what's going on in the vid.
Has any one identified the aircraft that is Stratos 4? It's the XB-70. There were just two of them built. They were to be the first of a line of supersonic long range bombers. But due to design flaws one of the crews was kill in an crash. The ejection mechanism failed to work when the pilot got his arm caught in the pod door. The other one I'm not certain about.
The other one is at the National Museum of the Air Force in Dayton Ohio. One hell of an aircraft... what a shame we didn't get to use it on the commies.
@Horizinn Ah, the Mach 3 Valkyrie...since I didn't see the drooped wingtips (to cause compression lift), I was thinking it might have been a composite of several different aircraft, which is what animators will do from time to time! (Wings of Honnemaise, for example.)

The only thing about doing that is because the timing is different for the STG version is off and the syncs I had with this video would not work out. However, if I can find time, I'll make another video using the Shiny Toy Guns version and probably with a different series.

It really depends on your definition of old I guess. It's still from the 21st Century (2003) so it can technically be "new" in the sense that it's not something like, say All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku, but is old enough to be called an old series. ^_^ Did that make sense?

Yeah, I have heard of that one, but I've never had a chance to see it. I'll look into it, but I haven't had time to really make any AMV's in quite some time. What's interesting was, I was thinking that "when I finished college, I'd have all the time to do the things I want." Stratos 4 is pretty interesting series. I'd recommend watching it. The story development is interesting, and the overall animation style is pretty clean. I guess my overall rating on it would be a 4/5. Thanks for enjoying the video.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. I can't say for sure I know of a place to watch the series online. If you have NetFlix, you may be able to rent the series from them. However, if you are talking about fansubs, LIME anime does a dual language fansub that you can look at. But, with that said, if you really do enjoy the series, please go and support your local or favorite online retailer and buy the DVDs. Best Buy sells if for ~$35.00 plus S&H if I remember correctly.
This is the original version of the song. This is the english version, there was an original German version before this, too. That's why the guy has a German accent when he says the words.
All other versions of the song you have heard are covers, remakes of this song.
I met Peter Schilling in 1995 when he was giving a live performance in a club to make some money. Too sad he disappeared from stage and haven't written anything since.
No you're not alone too! There's another version sung by a female group called, Shiny Toy Guns for a car commerical. You can click on it. It's in my favorites. You may like that version too!
I'll consider it for another Stratos 4 compilation, but the catch is, the timing on the Shiny Toy Guns version is different from the original, so I'd have to really play with the timing again to try to get it to fit. considering all the female cosmonauts here, you might consider doing another version of this with another version of this song - search for "Shiny Toy Guns - Major Tom (Coming Home)" -it's a very good cover of the song with a female vocalist :)
Actually, I've got the free download from the Shiny Toy Guns website a while back. I just have to find the time to sit down and make another video. And I was actually considering doing a different series; maybe something like Gundam. I'll look around. With almost a half a years worth of anime (as in viewing times, so something along the lines of owning ~200 series or so) sitting on my shelf I'm sure I'll find something that will fit. ^_^

Actually, if you look on Best Buy's website, you can buy the entire series for $34.99. That's assuming you're somewhere in the US. ^_^;; As for making a version with Shiny Toy Guns, I'll have to look around for a series that can fit as well as find time, considering I lose 3 hours on the road to and from work, and work from 7:00AM to 5:00PM. Peter Schilling's original! Shiny Toy Guns does a pretty awesome job on their cover but nothing beats Peter Schilling's original! I like it now as much as I did when I was 13 in 1983/84. Too funny! Man I feel old!! That's cause I am...lol! Being a teen in the 80's is something that I would not trade for the world! Going to malls with no cell phones and just telling each other what time to meet and where and then having to find one another was half the fun. The music was great and still is! Modern artists such as No Doubt, The Saturdays, and Shiny Toy Guns are scoring hits with remakes from classic artists such as Talk Talk, Depeche Mode, and Peter Schilling.
I've never seen this anime before but it looks interesting. Haha, it sort of fits I guess.

Most recently I watched Moribito: Guardian of the Sacred Spirit and I thought it was great, but now I am in the mood for some SciFi.
Do you know of a website where I can watch this? The one I normally use does not have Stratos 4, unfortunately.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. I can't say for sure I know of a place to watch the series online. If you have NetFlix, you may be able to rent the series from them. However, if you are talking about fansubs, LIME anime does a dual language fansub that you can look at. But, with that said, if you really do enjoy the series, please go and support your local or favorite online retailer and buy the DVDs. Best Buy sells if for ~$35.00 plus S&H if I remember correctly.

This is the original version of the song. This is the english version, there was an original German version before this, too. That's why the guy has a German accent when he says the words.
All other versions of the song you have heard are covers, remakes of this song.

I met Peter Schilling in 1995 when he was giving a live performance in a club to make some money. Too sad he disappeared from stage and haven't written anything since.

No you're not alone too! There's another version sung by a female group called, Shiny Toy Guns for a car commerical. You can click on it. It's in my favorites. You may like that version too!

I'll consider it for another Stratos 4 compilation, but the catch is, the timing on the Shiny Toy Guns version is different from the original, so I'd have to really play with the timing again to try to get it to fit. I'm also considering doing another series all together, but as I've been saying that's highly dependent on my free time. Thanks for enjoying the video!

The one cover from The Contacts would suite it since it follows the original, but better. I doubt the Shiny Toy Guns would do any justice since it's weak(especially since the new chick singer sucks after disposing of the original). Anyway, great vid :)

Earth decides to bring Tom home. However, just as he is about to turn on the thrusters and jet down to Earth, he cuts off communication with the line "Give my wife my love" and turns off the power to the ship. It is assumed that, sadly, Tom died in the process of re-entry, but in fact he has faked his death so he can return to the depths of space, which he now considers his home.

considering all the female cosmonauts here, you might consider doing another version of this with another version of this song - search for "Shiny Toy Guns - Major Tom (Coming Home)" -it's a very good cover of the song with a female vocalist :)

Actually, I've got the free download from the Shiny Toy Guns website a while back. I just have to find the time to sit down and make another video. And I was actually considering doing a different series; maybe something like Gundam. I'll look around. With almost a half a years worth of anime (as in viewing times, so something along the lines of owning ~200 series or so) sitting on my shelf I'm sure I'll find something that will fit. ^_^

Actually, if you look on Best Buy's website, you can buy the entire series for $34.99. That's assuming you're somewhere in the US. ^_^;; As for making a version with Shiny Toy Guns, I'll have to look around for a series that can fit as well as find time, considering I lose 3 hours on the road to and from work, and work from 7:00AM to 5:00PM. Anyway, thanks for enjoying the video. I'm just glad people are willing to listen to some of these older songs.

The Shiny Toy Guns version is available for download on their website. Just go to Google and look for Shiny Toy Guns. As for the original, you can find it all over the place, but legally I can't tell you where, as that can lead to copyright issues.

Peter Schilling's original! Shiny Toy Guns does a pretty awesome job on their cover but nothing beats Peter Schilling's original! I like it now as much as I did when I was 13 in 1983/84. BTW, that is one faaaat cat at the end of the video!! Great song, great video. Thanks for posting, LiangXiaoyung.

Thank you for enjoying it. That in itself is why I made the video. You know what's funny about this song? It's nearly four years before I was born. :P But, I do enjoy the Shiny Toy Guns version too. I may make another video with that song (if I have time, because work is overbearing right now) and another series if I can find a fit.

Too funny! Man I feel old!! That's cause I am...lol! Being a teen in the 80's is something that I would not trade for the world! Going to malls with no cell phones and just telling each other what time to meet and where and then having to find one another was half the fun. The music was great and still is! Modern artists such as No Doubt, The Saturdays, and Shiny Toy Guns are scoring hits with remakes from classic artists such as Talk Talk, Depeche Mode, and Peter Schilling.
