  • James Dyson is an asshole someone should punch him the face..... properly.

  • haha love this.

  • You're not wrong about marketing wanks. I've seen more than a fair share of them myself and thought "Hang on...that's not right..." or just smirked at it and shook my head as I put the product back.

  • ...but it's a vacuum cleaner. You could suck the dust back up! I bet JuLIAR Gillard owns one, or at least bought one and put in a claim for it.

  • hehe.. "sucker"

  • Just goes to show how much wank is talked about global warming, greenhouse gases and all the other enviromentalist claptrap if a company like Dyson expects consumers to be convinced by this !! Having said that, the ONLY clever thing about Dyson vacs is that Mr Dyson re-deployed a technique that has been used in industry since forever !!

  • Switching ≠ "Digital". These marketers should be locked up before they hurt someone.

  • No carbon emissions! This product was delivered on special trucks that run on fairy dust.

  • @linagee and driven by nude virgins from the marketing department!

  • Can't carbon dust mix with the air to create carbon dioxide?

  • My 20 year old Kenmore still works. I wonder how much carbon I've prevented from entering the ecosystem by hanging onto it for so long.

  • You make me lol

  • 0:28 made me lol hard

  • why not list the real advantages of BLDC motors? higher efficiency, longer life, zero maintenance, consistent performance, etc.

there is plenty of room on the box and they get to keep what integrity they have left. dyson builds a quality product, no need to hide behind douchebag marketing buzzwords.

btw, i prefer my Made In The USA 8lb Oreck XL over my malaysian built Dyson animal.

  • @johnfranks Yeah, marketing go to all the trouble to invent and/or manipulate shit, yet they miss doing even the simplest basic stuff that should be their job, which for a quality product is pretty darn easy.

  • It has snake oil in the new motor. Snake oil that has been aged properly, lol.

Today is all about marketing, so bad that they forget about quality. Have you seen/heard about the Dyson fan that has no blades on the rotor? Crazy advertising there.

  • Bloody hell, that's ridiculous, how can they get away with saying such nonsense!?

  • @alecjw11 The same way so called experts get away with the global warming scam. They play on peoples lack of scientific knowledge.

  • Hi, Dave! :-) - I love your videos and I respect your knowledge and enthusiasm a LOT :-) but do you think you would consider not using the "W**K" word, as I had to turn the video off in front of my family (who I am sitting with) and it kinda detracts from the enjoyment of the video. I'm not trying to tell you what to do - I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL - as an electronic engineer myself, but I feel it was unnecessary to use such language, sorry! :-)

    Merry Christmas Mate!

  • Wow they're using a brushless motor, Is that supposed to be the latest technical feat of vacuum cleaner design?

  • Just another POS in a fancy box with a misleading claim. Most people don't know how this stuff works, so they buy into the BS.

  • My vote is...Dyson Marketing is full of sh*t.

  • BUY MY SHIT! My shit is 100% natural and does NOT EMIT ANY CO2 at all! In Fact, by buying my shit you are supporting the environment too, since no garbage truck needs to pick it up poluting your good air. So think green, be green, buy my brown shit makes you a bit more green! I GUARANTEE IT!

  • haha, dyson is trying to take credit for the brushless motor.

  • it is just stupid .

  • haha.....come on, LED> LIGHT EMITTING DIODE= emitts light lol. If you notice a drill , angle grinder or power saw, you will notice that it emitts a grayish/brown power from the vents of the tool which is the carbon/led eating away on the surface of the rotating motor. i wonder if that is what their talking about lmao.

  • Dave, maybe your example of the Dyson vac. was meant for the American market. Americans are stupid and would believe such nonsense. Anyway, I checked the box from an "European version" (Denmark), and it doesn't say that kind of bs here. We have just got one like yours at work for cleaning up our desks for wire cuts and small bits and it's just terrific for that job.

  • @tknage Up yours you screwball...The Denmark version has a warning "do not put you penis in the hose".

  • @altradude Ha ha. That's right. Sorry, I forgot to mention that. :-)

  • @tknage , you're making fun of Australians too, if you say that 's the version for the US market since they are selling it in down there. By the way, get off the high horse and stop living of a population's image. Just because a group of people is said to be smart doesn't mean it include you.

  • @slappyd1ck Obviously you have no humour. My comment was in the context of the ridiculous claim, which you failed to see. Have a nice day.

  • @tknage , if it was a joke and if you didn't mean it out of spite, then I am sorry for overreacting.

That said, there are tons of people knocking americans any chances they get. That's why I don't think it's funny when so many people are doing it. Anyways, I am just disgusted with people like that cuz it shows they are harboring some bitterness towards their fellow mankind.

Again, if your joke wasn't out of malice, my apology.

  • @slappyd1ck Yes, people are knocking amaricans just for the hell of it. Ridiculous and unclaimed. - Just like the box. But if they really are so stupid, why are the rest of the world (inc. mid.east countries) copying America. That's my real opinion on that subject. Also, I kind of forgot to mention we use a lot of sarcasm in our jokes here in DK. It could easily be misinterpreted if you are not used to it, plus the subtleness needed doesn't transmit well in text. My fault. Rude Danish people.

  • lol...

  • but does it work?

  • So many examples of this kind of marketing, it's disgraceful. But what do you think of the motor & suction on this thing Dave? Do they live up to the hype?

  • It's like reductio ad absurdum -- "extending an argument to ridiculous proportions, then criticising the result" in the words of Big Bang Theory's Sheldon Cooper.

Although in this case the Marketing Wank-masters are doing the 'extending a concept to the point of sheer rediculosity', and Dave's performing the class act of criticising it :)

Thanks again for the Monday morning LOLs! :)

  • Their is Ton's of CO2 pushed out by making this and the extra cost results in even greater CO2

  • Ah, at last a video under 3 minutes. I didn't get bored with the usual waffle.

  • For reference, the motors are probably switched reluctance motors - If you're looking for a search term. Not new - The whole thing is marketing. Pretty much like Dysons in general - Cyclonic collection has been used for a very long time. That said, I have a Dyson because it is truely a good product at a reasonable price.

  • looks like "anal intruder 3000"

  • That is seriously some severe wankery.

Want zero carbon emissions? Let's all leave this damned planet! *facepalm*

  • To Dyson, human, animals, and plants must emit carbon. Afterall, they are all made up mainly carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, etc. And I thought plants were GREEN!!!

  • Don't turn it on, take it into parts

  • "Don't turn it on! Take it apart!" - EEVblog

  • 104,000 RPM huh? Assuming the fan size is around 7cm in diameter that thing would be running around or over 1300KM/hr, that's faster than the speed of sound so that would be very noisy!!

  • Yes, Shame on you Dyson!

  • Maybe if some of those dickhead marketers and James Dyson knew a thing or two about electronics and science, carbon dust settles unlike carbon dioxide which just goes into the air. Shameful they would put the below-average consumer's mind to use on a topic of much appeal. Shame.

  • You want to suck out his spleen right?

Isn't this "digital motor" just a brushless motor like I have on my RC cars?

  • As much as I wanted to buy a product, I would put it back on the shelf if I thought they were trying to mislead me. They did it years ago when 5W RMS wasn't enough, so they used something like 50W PMPO - total bollocks

  • Please take the motor apart.

  • I was in the NAVY 7 years on submarines and part of my jobs was replacing brushes on motor and generators . We had to be very careful with the dusat as if it got in the atmosphere and would ruin electronics .

I think its just a trick also

  • Dyson make some pretty cool stuff though aesthetics wise. My vacuum cleaner has a roll up power cord that is tangled in the last 1m. Anoying as hell. Taking it apart is like a puzzle, I still have not managed to figure this puzzle out.

  • PRODUCT REVIEW!

  • I say: So it is better to use a pen than a pencil?

Dyson says: Yes it is, because the pencil emits some kind of carbon dust while using.

  • Don't these Dyson handhelds only have a 10minute battery life? And that's at low power, at full power only 6minutes supposedly. Rubbish! Hard to vacuum the car in that time!

  • take that beast apart i want to see that little compressor wheel

  • Lets see how it works! Use it and take it apart.

    2:41 "Oh, that's nasty."

  • A better sales point about no carbon brushes

is that they won't wear down and need to be replaced.

    Is the RPM claim true?

Does it make a lot more suction?

  • We want to see that motor!! Take the thing apart dave!

  • Technically it does have zero carbon emissions. If you put it on a table and just stare at it for the rest of your life, it'll never cause one molecule of CO2 to enter the atmosphere. :)

  • @ControlCardPin it will, from the plastic parts and the box it came with... people should care more about end of life recycling (can be those plastic recycled?) than CO2 emissions because that's already making visible mess on this planet

  • Wank is such a great word! I also like pish. Dysons marketing strategy is pish!

  • Dyson sucks XD

  • RMS would love your videos :)

  • What do you expect from marketing? The truth? Honesty? If equivocation will sell the product then so be it. Integrity be damned.

  • Misleading marketing is prohibited in some countries. In Slovenia, the consumer can report this to some federal authority and they can/wont act against the manufacture.

Like erlendese said before me, I would like to see this vacuum cleaner on your bench in parts! Digital motor without brushes? That is an asinchronus motor!

    Cheers,

    Rok

  • Haha, when i read the "zero carbon emissions" i burst out laughing! Im sure someone with no knowledge of motors and burshes could easily by convinced by that, this is marketing gone too far. Its ridiculous...

  • Don't turn it on, take it apart?

At least I would like to see how complex/simple it is.

Since it's digital.. is it variable speed too?

  • LOL 100krpm motor, no way!!! Only a air/steam/gas turbine can reach that kinda speed.

  • @TheElectricnoob I would like to see how much cfm the motor can pull.

  • Oh God! I was laughing hard after only one minute!!! I'm surprised you hadn't picked on the "digital motor" marketing guff as well... What is a "digital motor"?

  • Ahh. This ruined my morning... Now i am angry

  • Zero Carbon emissions my arse. Carbon brushes or not,the electricity has to be generated somewhere.. *Cough*A coal fired plant*Cough*

  • Nice to see your still calm and not letting the hype get to you in anyway way Dave ;-]

I wonder if they have the zero carbon emission spew on my water filters. If not it can only be a matter of time...

  • They can't fool us techy's though ;)

  • No more misleading than the whole "Climate Change" scam itself. So uhhh, when are you going to take it apart!?

  • Hey Dave, I have ACCC on the phone for you! ;-)

  • Almost as good as their $300 "bladeless fan", which actually has blades, they are simply hidden away. That's even more misleading.

  • @smileman66 HAHahaaa... so true. That's another example of false advertising.

  • Be careful where you're shoving it. It may clog.

  • I definitely choose products that have been produced to limit their ecological impact, transportation and packaging included. Unfortunate that we live in a buyer-beware type of marketing system.

  • I'd rather have the carbon sequestered in my brushes.

  • aren't you going to TAKE IT APAAAAAAAAAART?

  • green marketing = greentarded bullshit

  • Very clever marketing. It gives the impression to the consumer that they are doing something good for the environment. Not misleading, just clever.

  • @TradieTrev I vote for misleading.

  • @EEVblog its quite misleading. Thats America for you m8...

    no offence intended to anyone

  • @EEVblog The clever bit is that they dont mention the word 'dioxide' with 'carbon'. Therefore, they are technically, and legally, correct. However, using the carbon dust fact and subconciously linking that to 'green' products is misleading, sneaky and shameful. But hey, it is just a handheld vacuum cleaner invented ages ago. Dyson needs to differentiate the product to justify its price tag. There you have it, the dark side of marketing.

  • @EEVblog Definitely misleading.

  • @TradieTrev

Sounds like the very definition of misleading to me...

  • @123cyr guess I'm not the average consumer then.

  • @TradieTrev "Means Zero carbon emissions" is misleading

  • @Films4You As stated by David, that would apply to the brushes on the motor. It's a head fuck for sure, misleading for most average Joes.

  • @TradieTrev "misleading for most average Joes." If they need to mislead like this then is demonstrates that it is not as good as made out to be.

  • @Films4You Marketing has nothing to do with the performance of the product. It's purely branding.

  • @TradieTrev So, exactly *how* is lying to consumers "clever"? Exactly the opposite - not ALL consumers are tech-ignorant.

  • @unlokia Good points there for sure. The comment was my opinion, the wording creates to the average consumer that they are doing something good. I'm not a typical consumer that's why I thought it was clever.

  • The model up sucks up carbon emmisions...

  • lol, Dave people out there aren't smart are you, but they see that and they would buy it and Dyson knows that. like they always put hot girls on beer commercials, are they trying to said all the girls are hot when you're drunk?

  • @scancool lol...almost everyone studies about motors to day in some phase of their schooling.

  • amazing! haha

  • "Take it apart"?

  • Funny.

But how does it work as a vacuum?

  • Who the hell buys a product because it has 0 carbon emissions?(other than companies that get tax incentives). No one gives a crap about this stuff, it's just there to take up space; marketing fluff.

  • @Raxarax It certainly does nothing regarding emissions from powerplants.

  • @Raxarax Actually, many do, and misleading marketing like this can actually work. Doesn't make it right though!

  • @Raxarax

Lots of people do. It's quite a fashion and pop culture fad here in the U.S. We want to save the world because it's a greater mission than saving our own damned economy. Except we end up doing neither. Btw Dave, this blog made me laugh so hard. I loved this one especially because I notice things like this (although not as ridiculous) all the time. I hope you don't stop doing these videos any time soon. I watch them to cheer up and it actually works for me.
