Growing up watching Pepe le Pew, I thought that its stench would be the most horrible odor ever.
When I finally got a whiff of it as there are many of them in my neighborhood, while it smells bad, I had worse odors when I'm doing number 2 in my own bathroom!
Skunks may not be single. Over the past two weeks my son (14) and I have trapped eleven (!) skunks living under our house. And that's just through tonight - there may be more. We certainly don't want to seal up the foundation until we are sure we have them all.
Actually skunks are prevalent throughout the United States, Europe, Indonesia, the Philippines, Canada, Mexico, Central America and central South America. The London Daily Mail recently reported sightings of an entire colony of striped skunk, with litters of young, in Gloucestershire. Then there’s the Asian Stink Badger, which is also a Mephitidae family member, they live on the western islands of the Malay Archipelago: Sumatra, Java and Borneo as well as other islands in the region.
ignorant American thinks skunks are worldwide...grab a book, get some education and realise that they only exist in the Americas and some parts of Indonesia
Our skunks have come back year after year. Any holes we cover are re-dug. We've tried spraying repellant. Our cats have tried pooping in front of the hole (observed this one). Nothing keeps them out. Great tip on the 'shampoo' we may just need it! Thanks!
Gophers can be tough and being the organic hippie types we are, we're not big on the idea of killing the little fellows. We only know of three possible solutions, 1) flood the holes with water (take care if you're doing this close to your own foundation) 2) try a solar powered gopher repellent - which I'm told actually works. I've never tried one because of solution number 3) get a cat. We have three and, unlike some of our neighbors, don't have gophers. Good luck!
