yet I know of a few people who would totally agree that endless is unfeassable, but happily have two or three kids because 'cute' kids are thought to be exept from exponential population growth, or some other hormone-induced fuzzy way of thinking.

And anyway, who has time to think at all, what with all this work and shopping to be done?

There are 5 billion working age people on the planet. Even with planned obsolescence, the current economic system can provide decent paying jobs for about half of them. Any attempt to create “jobs” for the other half will be a collective environmental suicide by our species. The only solution is a drastic reduction in working hours world-wide. By drastic I mean 20 hours per week or less, starting of course in the so-called developed countries that do most of the consuming and polluting.
