Congress writes the bills and passes them so i dont know I can really call any bill he passed "his" success, so that takes alot off the table. by the way, Tax laws actual gave any one making less tan 15 dollars an hour a tax break, so where did you get your information ?

For small businesses in CA it could be almost double that due to fines, fees, permits & TAXes. The unemployment rate for teenagers & young adults is over 50% right now. So I highly doubt that you are employed. Let alone being paid $12.35 for a high school education, when college grads right now cannot even find a job for $10/hr.

The Republicans are riding a wave of emotion, facts are just inconveniences for them. This is not to say that there is no deficit/debt/entitlement problem. @override367 ... The state specific credits/funding put in place to pass the recent healthcare legislation come to mind. For example, the "Cornhusker Kickback" looks like it's being repealed. While perhaps not breaking the letter of the law, Obama's back-room deal with insurance companies certainly looks dubious as does mandatory coverage, which is a tax paid to insurance companies. That is why even fellow democrat Kucinich didn't want to go along with the bill (before his Air Force One ride!).

For small businesses in CA it could be almost double that due to fines, fees, permits & TAXes. The unemployment rate for teenagers & young adults is over 50% right now. So I highly doubt that you are employed. Let alone being paid $12.35 for a high school education, when college grads right now cannot even find a job for $10/hr.

Rep. Anthony Weiner is great and he's correct. The majority party absolutely deserves to be talked down to for that pseudo bill. What a waist of time for a useless token to their extreme base. The House is being childish, so he's just keepin' it real.

Clearly his actions, in regards to the scandal, were lewd and inappropriate. He made the right choice stepping down, although I feel he could have survived the bad publicity. However, I still feel that he is a good politician and that we have not seen the last of him.

The Republicans are riding a wave of emotion, facts are just inconveniences for them. This is not to say that there is no deficit/debt/entitlement problem. However, real thought-out solutions are just a bit too much work for them. If only they would extend the mantle of responsibility they preach to the poor to their intellectual responsibilities.

The democrats had no problem disobeying the rules when they strapped us with Obamacare, where was this wiener then? The modern democrat party is the equivalent of he Bolsheviks in early 20th century Russia and if they continue we will be strapped with a Stalin.

It's sad how predictable our Legislators are. The Minority party constantly cries foul over every rule or procedure that is not followed while they're the minority. Yet once they're in power they toss the rules aside, claim they are acting under a "Mandate from the People", and cram whatever they feel is best down everyones throat. Both sides use this EXACT tactic. I get so sick of both parties playing the same "I'm the reasonable good guy" card only when they're the Minority.

Democrats sat on their hands because they knew they were doing something that the people did not want. They saw the tidal wave coming and even sitting on their hands couldn't stop it. I mean honestly not a single Republican voted for such a fundamental change to a system that effects everyone. By the book or not do you honestly think that is good form?

@mccormickn : Democrats didn't sit on their hands and wait for the "tidal wave coming", they tried very hard to get a Senate budget bill passed last year, and every time the Republicans said they would filibuster, and the Democrats didn't force them to actually go through with it, so nothing got done. When Reid finally said he gave up, that he'd pass the bill they wanted him to pass, they still wouldn't pass it. How hypocritical can they be? How do folks not see through the Republican charade?

@override367 ... The state specific credits/funding put in place to pass the recent healthcare legislation come to mind. For example, the "Cornhusker Kickback" looks like it's being repealed. While perhaps not breaking the letter of the law, Obama's back-room deal with insurance companies certainly looks dubious as does mandatory coverage, which is a tax paid to insurance companies. That is why even fellow democrat Kucinich didn't want to go along with the bill (before his Air Force One ride!).

@mccormickn I notice it's always the majority party who complains about the filibuster. They never get rid of it though, because they know that some day they'll be in the minority and will need it.

@PissedFechtmeister I agree the filibuster is a crucial part of our check and balances. I would not want to get rid of it even if my party was the majority. It is a good way for the minority to have their thoughts and opinions heard, or at least put on record, without getting completely steam rolled at every turn.

This is the problem, Democrats elect lawmen, Republicans elect people with lots of fire, but little in the way of substance.

@Ginyustyle haha I like iPod's explanation there! Pretty much sums it up. Theyre both cut from the same cloth. They bend,stretch and sometimes break rules when they feel justified. As I said above I'm not an expert and honestly I cannot give you an example off the top of my head. But I do know that if you think Democrats are all little angels following the rules and holding doors for everyone than i'm sorry. Both parties use underhanded tactics whenever they feel its benificial to their cause.

@mccormickn I'm not saying politicians aren't slimy as a general rule. I'm saying that there is a profound lack of understanding of government that is leading to Republicans putting their feet in their mouths. Nothing about showing your lack of knowledge about the constitution is beneficial to the Republican party. Thankfully for the GOP, they use scare tactics and spread ignorance to get elected, not respect for their constituents and a strong grasp of the issues.
