  • i don't think it's safari that uses ram, i had the same problem with chrome as well. Seems like problem with flash player plugin. if change in drop down menu in upper right corner from my processes to all processes you will notice

  • It is really disappointing that there's such an issue! I am having the same problem with my macbook pro. Safari drains all my RAM (4GB) especially when I watch streaming videos. Safari web content under activity monitor sometimes shows 1.7Gb usage!!! I am using chrome for streaming now. Instead of quitting safari you can always download an app called "free memory" from app store and you can free memory without closing your browser.

  • Yes !! there is a huge memory leak on safari 5... I really like safari but I cant use it because it uses up all my ram.. I have 4 gigs of ram and I always get the beach ball.. its pathetic

  • @lospown

Quitting Safari regular is a option, stop it from getting really out of hand, if you're heavy user/multitasker this a big issue though.

Chrome is good alternative, sucks though because I do prefer safari overall, sure we'll get a fix soon.

  • @AppScreencast yeah I do quit it regularly to prevent it from getting out of hand but a lot of times it doesn't release the memory it was hogging up. And you are right about the multitasking with multiple windows open because thats when it really cripples my macbook pro..

  • This is also a problem for Windows users who use Safari.

  • Big issue for many.
