This is an amazing summer intensive. They focus a lot on technique. I do agree that this may not be they're strongest year, but they had a lot of people in this class so it's harder to use up space.
We are using the same music for our sleeping beauty production. The dance is called the garland dance. We are entertaining the princess for her 16th birthday. How cool
shouldn't these girls be on pointe, for a professional school? I mean, I know that this is a summer course, but shouldn't they be on pointe to even be accepted to the school?
@pointedancelover1 it's possible that not all of them were on pointe considering they are probobly 12-13.Or they had a dance just for pointe. For this age group this dance would probobly be to hard on pointe or very sloppy.
I think the choreo is lovely, interesting and very clean. It is nice to see a teacher giving intermediate dancers combinations that they can cleanly execute and use their age appropriate technique
Come ON guys, quite critiquing so negatively. The main cause of most of your complaints is the lack of preparation- the summer intensive program isn't very long, and it's not like they're only doing ballet. They are also doing hip hop, yoga, modern, musical theater, numerous classes. Level five is much more capable than what is shown in the video. They did a wonderful job, especially for the lack of time. If they had more time, they'd be doing very advanced steps.
i found the one body suit with the ribonning on it distracting.
you need make no apology for their limited preparation.
again i really liked the piece and they did i believe perform to the best of their collective capabilities at this time. they were really together . their spacing and timing were as immaculate as any professional company. only with time and the maturing of their dancing would it be possible for the piece to be more polished.
the girls did a good job of good choreography- it was well suited to their age, ability and training . they were well rehearsed --good lines , good spacing , same elevation , height of leg.
most certainly they can work to improve their fifths
however if they weren't as tidy and clear as they were this piece could look very messy because of the canon . but it didn't. kudos to teacher and students.
i enjoyed the sincerity of the dancers performance and found the choreography engaging
Listen you guys are so mean I'm going to go to this ballet this summer and I have gotten 2 scholarships from regular ballet school and skipped 2 levels this year I am now in level 8 with the 17 and 18 year and I'm only 12 years old so lay off
Don't forget, these dancers only had about 2.5 hours a week for 3 weeks to prepare this piece. You can't expect professional dancing with only 7 or 8 hours to prepare it!
No, of course not! These girls are only 12 and 13 years old. This is level 5, and it goes up thru level 8 before it goes pro. Dancers don't automatically moved into the next level each year, they have to be ready, so it's unlikely that they'd be at level 8 before they were 17 or 18 or even college aged.
Ballet Austin IS a professional school- probably one of the most professional ones in Austin. Many of these people were not trained in a professional school and came from a school that may not focus on positions. Generally, those schools focus more on flexibility.

@ballet7up77
actually, it's a very, very very VERy good school to get into. Again, lack of preparation. They didn't have time.
ZetroAct 1 year ago
@ZetroAct wat the heck is lack of preperation, they wernt prepared for the complexity of straightening their legs or using their abbs?!
