@metallicarules1234 - Actually, I THINK it was on their summer replacement show hosted by Glen Campbell. I know that Cream appeared on the G/C show but can't remember if this was it or not.
Only Clapton could be pissy in one of the greatest band of all time. He hated this song? Compared to the beer commercials blues he's recorded since Layla. Please.
@thewizardofcovington Clapton didn't hate the song---hell, he wrote the song (with Martin Sharp, who also wrote the lyric to "Tales of Brave Ulysses"), and it was their current single at the time---but this appearance came at a time when Cream was winding up their existence and there had been tension in the band still. Ginger Baker once said the winding-up was the likely reason why Clapton looked so unhappy in the clip: "I don't know, but I'm glad it wasn't something I was singing!"
@EasyAce hmmm..i was just wondering if eric was using a teleprompter.....because eric didnt like to sing i wonder how the hell he remembered all those lyrics!!! i listend over a hundred times and still cant remember all the lyrics!! ''setting up the chessboard while death rolls the dice'
@jazzkid66 They mimed and he lip-synched to the actual single in that clip. That, alas, was common practise in those years on shows that weren't "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" or Ed Sullivan. (@dukeford This was "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour" when that show began as a summer replacement. Cream wasn't happy about being made to do this clip this way---any more than when Campbell did let them play "Sunshine of Your Love" live but without anything resembling their regular stage rig.)
@EasyAce even the Fab four went out of their way to do 'Hello, Goodbye' out of sync...guess eric didnt have the luxury huh? i havent even see the video of sunshine...is clapton not even playing his fender strat?
@jazzkid66 Clapton didn't play Strats in Cream---his electric guitars were usually a Gibson SG (the famous psychedelic paint job), a Gibson ES-335, and a Gibson Firebird. (He played a Les Paul in Cream's very earliest days, in 1966, but that guitar was stolen as they were prepping for their first major tour.)
@EasyAce im gonna have to believe you since i was born in 73' and as much as i LOVE the gibson SG (jimmy page played one as well right?) wasnt eric playin the strat in Blind Faith in 69"? (the one w the flowers stickers) y would he give up up the SG??? unless he hurt himself falling down w the heavy gibson! ;)
@jazzkid66 Clapton played a Telecaster with a Strat neck and his ES-335 in Blind Faith; he picked up the Strat somewhere when he began hanging with Delaney and Bonnie on that tour. The SG is actually one of Gibson's lighter-weight solidbody guitars (I used to play one; I play a Les Paul now). Jimmy Page played the doublenecked SG but that was the only one I knew him to play; he played Telecasters and Les Pauls mostly, otherwise . . .
He WAS pissed!! Clapton didn't want to do the show (the Smother's Brothers, I think. They were forced to it by Cream's manager), and has said that he hated the song.
Yeah, they look so thrilled to be there because of the frogs: As you might be able to tell from the intro, they nailed their feet into the ground to prevent them for moving. It's pointless animal cruelty... rock stars hate that type of stuff, right?

@fattirevsbud I'm not sure which documentary is being referred to, but Cream did not use heroin... I did most of the touring with them and know that first hand. What the individual guys might have done before or after is a different story and well documented

@nachoslemenheads Lip-syncing started in the 1930s when movies began to incorporate huge Broadway-style musical numbers. Directors, like Busby Berkley, figured out that they could do more takes from more angles if they didn't need to have a large orchestra on set and the performers had more energy if they weren't also singing. Almost all big Hollywood movies were done like that.
I think the story was that they owed their record label more music to fulfill their record contract obligations when they were breaking up. This was on their last 45 - their way of saying FU to the record execs :-)
@Neither are overrated, they had a different thing altogether. Remember Cream were a band with extremely talented musicians by comparison to the Stones and Beatles. Cream was mostly about weaving in and out of a song into a jam and the others were more strict song oriented
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I hope it doesn't offend your tender baby boomer sensibilities if I tell you go to munch a nice big bag of oozing black cocks. I mean it in a sensitive liberal compassionate Generation X way!
I have to go with cream lover. Many of their songs kinda had a psychedelic feel, but to me Cream was more of a blues rock band which covered a few genres.
Not really, their cover of Steppin' Out was very psychedlic and Take it Back seemed to be mainly blues rock with just a hint of psychedlic. Wrapping Paper could even be considered pop.
Queen mum fuck starving little Brownies let's play tennis. Long live the Groom of the Stool I mean stole.Brilliant song!

I hope it doesn't offend your tender baby boomer sensibilities if I tell you go to munch a nice big bag of oozing black cocks. I mean it in a sensitive liberal compassionate Generation X way!

creamlover - Cream is a band. Ginger and Jack are musicians. Eric Clapton is a heroin addict.

Clapton looks so stoned and out of it in this clip. he must have licked one of those "cream frogs".

@cylsan

I have to go with cream lover. Many of their songs kinda had a psychedelic feel, but to me Cream was more of a blues rock band which covered a few genres.

Dr. Pepper what do u think psychedelic means?

@Mexi- I know its the 60s its just wired that this one song sounds like they were on LSD cuz not allot of there other songs sound like it

creamlover are you crazy? creams sound was strictly psychedlic...im sorry for bashin you, but man cmon
mexipepper 2 years ago
Not really, their cover of Steppin' Out was very psychedlic and Take it Back seemed to be mainly blues rock with just a hint of psychedlic. Wrapping Paper could even be considered pop.

Meant to say cover of Steppin out was very unpsychedlic
