I've seen crazy stuff since living here, sharks included (right up to the shore in low tide even) but, never a sting ray yet. I would only be so lucky!
@MasterMorg86 Yes there are sharks in the water they tend to congregate near piers, reefs and inlets. I can't remember the last time someone was bitten It's been awhile.
dang i remember those days im going there this spring break and all and probably going to those twin hotels and that giant ass tower that place is beast but yea i cant wait to go
i'm going to myrtle beach in 2 weeks and i might not go so far into the water anymore. lol. i've seen videos of sharks and stingrays being caught right on the shore O_O
ive caught so many stingrays, they're probably the easiest fish to catch in the bay. My record is a 44" wide 50+ pound took me over 30min to get in and i caught it on 65 pound spider wire.
Over off of 23rd in Alameda. Good spot for small shark and sting ray.
in oak island? umm... its good for wooden boards i dont have a fiberglass one. i mainly surf, idk y i made my name skimbordfreak, but the waves arnt normally good so surfing sucks.
What kind of fish do you normally catch fishing from the beach like that? What kind of bait and wat set up do you use? I am going there in august so i was curious.
you can catch all types of fish from the beach whiting, dart, taylor and salmon it all depends on what you are trying to catch i would suggest an alvey reel with a 12ft rod probly one that is bout 4-6kg and depending on what u want to catch use pillies for taylor worms for whiting and pippies ir you can find them. Well hope i helped a bit have a good fishing trip
It depends on what time of the year.summer trout ,whiting, spanish mackeral, flounder. larger fish like king mackeral, blues, black grouper, shark, start moving in closer to shore in late August when Large schools of finger mullet move along the shore. this is the start of the season
hey. i live in georgetown..about 25 minutes away from the beach...the best thing to use for bait is smaller fish...if your going to the North End of Pawley's stop at the south end and go catch bait in the creek with a casting net...store bought bait isn't as good.
you got luck i've only been to myrtle beach twice my first vacation there was when i was 1 i think and i remember a little of it i think and disney world when i was 5 or 4 i think and myrtle beach last year and if you haven't picked a hotel yet which you likely did i can say the dunes village is the best so tell people bout it
i was in florida i think and someone was being a ass and they caught probably a medium sized fish and they just left it on de beach wth then finally someone picked it up and threw it bak in de water
lol u just made 10 thousand dollas... you sholud really send that video in you would probably win 10 thousand dollas haha... what bait was it caught on
I found this online, do a search for southern stingray.
The southern stingray reaches a maximum disc width of 79 inches (200cm) and weight of 214 lbs (97 kg). Little is known about its average life span and growth rate.
should have upgraded the line put a circle hook on it and then cut that ray a few times and used it for shark bait im sure someone could have taken it out past the breakers in a kayak or something and dropped it in for ya would had been killer shark bait anyhow
Sweet catch Cathooker2! For the tourists: I live in Myrtle Beach and you would not believe what we have off our coast. I have seen dolphins, several types of sharks, sting rays, skates, huge concentrations of jellyfish, barracuda, whales, lion fish, sea turtles, alligators, sea snakes and eels. Rays of this size are quite common, I have caught several surf and pier fishing. It is the ocean, why would anyone think these types of fish don't visit? They are awesome and VERY strong!
10000 dollars thats what my dad says everytime sombody does somthing funny on camera lol. I caught a stingray off the appachee peer. I had to pull it up with my crab net
watched a guy land a 100 +pound ray off the 2nd street peir down there this past summer

I'm going there in late august, and this time I'm trying to go on one of those 12 hr. fishing tours. How would you catch something like that?
Jt42488 2 years ago
The head boats are nice 12 hours that sounds like the gulf stream trip I've been aon a few you should do well this time of year.
This ray was caught on a 5 inch mullet with a 3 ounce sinker trown out as far as possible.
Good luck
