  • @OROgoldenpair1 Are you kidding everybody? Rearch for Simon and Garfunkel and you see.

  • 3:29 to 3:52 is so awesome!!

  • I love this, reminds me of when I was a kid.

  • The tragedy is South Africa's youth's infatuation with western Hip Hop and Rap, they are losing out on so much, especially the fusion traditional African sounds. Thanks Paul and Mama for bringing us this magic and "documenting" in video before it is lost.

  • Miriam Makeba , sua estrela brilha na constelação dos grandes da Internacional Pop Music

  • One of the great cuts on this superb album...

  • @suirvale: do you even have a clue how huge africa is as a continent? of course you hear different music in kenya, ghana, whatever, hundreds of different people, hundreds of languages, a thousand musical sounds. take off your marley hat! africa isn't the west. marley is a copycat(i know you're in barbados. while you're there, check out BARRABAS "EXUMA".) people just hate any comment that doesn't deify marley. don't get me started on haille selassie.

  • i love this concert so much,.but it amazes me i never hear it in kenya or ghan any of this music never seemes to travel into othre countries in africa,.bob marley seems to dominiate the psyche there,.wish they had more western influences in their music m,

  • I will always tip my hat off to Paul Simon for complemeting the music of SA with fantastic lyrics. What an ear he has..... Surely outdid himself with the lyrics on Graceland

  • Brings tears to my eyes everytime... Miriam Makeba, Paul Simon, Ray Phiri ( the guitarist who starts the song wear a cuban hat and a checkered shirt. Is one of South Africa's premeir guitarist , he is one the composers and arrangers in Graceland. Youtube Stimela... That's his band from the 80's and they are tight. Some argue it's they are on SA's best band, which is a huge thing to say in a country wit suchh a rich heritage of music as ours). What more could you ask for really

  • Magnificent musical moment. Miriam Makeba was a powerful force. Paul Simon is a visionary. This is so great.

  • I may be way off, but if you want to fix the world, start with fixing your own neighborhoods. You know what I mean. This song was moving me....to that.

  • My dad showed me this song years ago, love it. On my 21st birthday he gave me his vinyl collection, including 'Graceland' :)

  • I wonder whose idea it was to jettison "mission music" in favor of "sounds of music."

  • What a moment, love this mans style ... and the love for others .... I have a tingle at the back of my neck. lol play-on, play-on........

  • I wish I could have been at this concert - totally love it.. Brings a smile to my face. thank you.

  • Inspirational!!!!

  • Miriam Makeba! Wow, I saw her at Cambridge Corn Exchange, UK with Hugh Masekela. What an immense treat!

  • @GalDriver1 Going to see Ladysmith Black Mombazo at the Cambridge Corn exchange next month!

  • well done paul, you have brought SA music and it's greatest female vocalist to the scene. sorry i should have written tis 20 yrs back when i saw the video for the forst time! God bless you Miriam!! Thanks heaven you gave us her!!

  • Sorry Linda Ronstadt, Miriam Makeba totally kicked your butt!! RIP Miriam.

  • miriams voice just stands out in this song

  • My favorite song from that whole concert and I love every song.

  • I miss you Mama Africa.

  • Who are the 30 lost individuals who can not see one of God's gifts? Pray for them so that they might some day open up to the sound of love for the soul.

  • JAH......Rastafari Bless.....I love Africa

  • I first saw Miss Makeba at Carnegie Hall with Harry Belafonte. Her voice and presence will be sorely missed by all who love beauty.

  • just Africa !!!

    lov' it

  • She is awesome.

  • Miriam is an amazing gift to all of us. God Bless her.

  • Es glorioso a partir del minuto 3:20.

  • Paul, a great artist in himself, shows love and respect to a ledgend. Beautiful song, beautifully performed. Mama Afica much missed.

  • When Paul Simon dies and goes to heavan God won't let him in, saying "You've already had your fair share of bliss". Paul will think back and remember this moment, agree with God and go down to hell and stay there for eternity but nothing will hurt him. Because of this.

  • Thanks Mama!

  • @theoriginaljeffro Under African Skies

  • What a great musical moment! Paul Simon looks so devoted to this amazing woman, revolving in her orbit. thanks for posting!!

  • I long to walk under frican skies someday. I hear the motherland calling in my spirit.

  • @bajangirl70 I know what you mean. I would like to walk under African Skies as well.

  • Love you M...Miss you soooo much! The BEST convert...ever!! !

  • Thanks Paul

  • What a beautiful performance by both artists!!! Paul Simon looks at Ms. Makeba with such love...♥...and yes, she was gracious to have him sing with her. RIP, Ms. Makeba...your songs were lovely.

  • @MissAerialist Jewish ingenuity didn’t bring Miriam back home. The African leg of this concert took place in Zimbabwe, not South Africa. Miriam came back home in 1990 after being persuaded to by Nelson Mandela.

  • Paul an American kid did good for Africa that is where american prestige is, be a force for justice and good

  • I cry for you today Mariim

  • me fascinan los duos de grandes, i love it, tanta maestria en esa doña, las horas pasan como si nada en uno de sus conciertos

  • Way too short of a performance.

  • I played Mama Afrika for my sixth graders to kick off Black History Month.

  • Art Garfunkel, eat your heart out

  • @pharcyd00 funny

  • miriam makéba l'une des plus grandes chanteuses africaines !!!! merci mamoune , toi la pt normande !!

  • FUSION OF SA AWAKENING! Beautiful song from the heart of SA. seems similar to the soundtrack of White Wedding that came out for dvd today. Im excited to buy it bc it only brings smiles when I watch just how far SA has come as a nation. So Inspirational!! whitewedding. Com

  • SOUNDS SOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!

  • I don't see anyone outshining anyone else- just two admired talents coming together for a wonderful performance.

  • Paul Simon overshadowed by the GREAT Miriam Makeba, MAMA AFRICA!!

  • Ten thumbs up. Paul Simon's body of work outdistances many in its depth and breadth musically and lyrically. Love Paul.

  • Beautiful

  • She does not sing w/ Paul as well as Linda Ronstandt on the actual Graceland album. Dynamically, lyrically or melodically.

  • @JessiMessy1981 I disagree with you. Ms. Makeba is much better for the song. She is speaking the language of the South African people. This gives the song an earthly texture that is not present with Linda Ronstadt.

  • @JessiMessy1981

obvious troll misses the point of the concert completely

  • @Sdeath34 & @mrbobevans I don't get the troll comment. ???. Im just telling you what I hear. I know how special it was for the South African people to hear Ms. Makeba sing this song, yeah thats great, but it just doesn't compare to the sound of Linda Ronstandts voice WITH Paul Simons.. it just doesn't. I don't care for her "earthy" tone. It's good.. but not great. But hey, who am I? Opinions are like a-holes. Everyone's got one and they all stink.

  • @JessiMessy1981 Your comment sucks

  • @brendanmaz so does yours... that all u got? get a life

  • I was privileged to be part of this crowd. It was 1987 at Rufaro Stadium in Harare, Zimbabwe. That's 23 years ago, Wow!

  • If I could have gone to any concert in history, this would be the one.

  • I luv the blend of the two voices. Great music. I am from Sri Lanka and this is one of my favourite videos. Paul is a maestro and will always be remembered for his successful concert in Zimbabwe

  • So long since I heard this.....beautiful........love and peace from Scotland xxxx

  • FANTASTIC AFRICAN ROOTS ARE FINALLY REACHING OUT..............ROOTS ARE IMPORTANT TO THE INDEGENOUS POPULATIONS OF WHICH EVER CONTINENT OR COUNTRY YOUR FROM............PS IM AN ENGLISH GIRL WHO SPENT HER YOUTH IN APARTHEID SOUTH AFRICA...........WILLING THE AFRICANS TO SUCEED AND HERE AND NOW IN MUSIC THEY DO............APARTHEID SUCKS .MUSIC LIVES ON ..REGARDLESS OF COLOUR OR RELIGION XXXXX

  • @juister31 thumbs up, i really appreciate your write up.

  • @juister31 May the "Gods" bless you and all lovers of humanity, equality, and selflessness.

  • @Carlos102941 what a nice thing to say :D

  • @juister31 hmm like the way the english treated and r still treating the irish and the scottish eventho they have everything in common! ppl who know and fear god dont act like that. all cursed pagans! scotland forever lol!

  • Luv this video. Luv the way the two musical legends show respect for each other, their language, culture, and their colour. The world is literally falling apart becoz people dont know to respect others, be it their religion or otherwise. I love the way Paul smiles and the happiness written on his face on the accomplishment of his concert in zimbabwe. Thank you paul simon. Today happens to be his birthday. Many Happy Returns Paul Simon. May God bless you.

  • rest in peace Mama Afrika.

  • To bad Paul Simon made millions from his music he made in Africa and the rest got peanuts!!!!!

  • Ms. Makeba was lucky to sing with Paul...Almost all of his music was entered into the Congressional Museum of Music....What agreat blending of two sounds. Yes, music is the universal language.

  • @ohiojib umm correction sir: Paul Simon was lucky to have gotten the once in a lifetime opportunity to sing with a legend like Miriam Makeba.

  • Now I see where Bobby McFerrin gets it.

  • There is no rhythm like the African one, it takes me back to childhood memories (music beat on the ferry boat andf cowrie shell music filling the air)

  • dit zo mooi worden waker hiero

  • Amazing concert, remember watching this over 20 years ago when i was a kid on HBO special. Still amazing today as it was when i first saw it!

  • belleza cuando hay armonia

  • malaika

  • P did a remarkable by coming to Sa to expose these talents...

  • I love this song!!! When I first got to know this song I was 12 yrs old, reading The Count Of Monte Cristo... It really sets the mood for the book and was somewhat like a soundtrack to the story. The loneliness and pain the Count had to endure while in prison and really sets a certain depth for me... I know it was a childhood vision but to this day it brings back great childhood memories and of course my old time favourite book :)

  • mama Africa rocks

  • how fitting for this song, look at the clouds in the background, beautiful!

  • @em2y1027 Hath portention occured?

  • I love Miriam Makeba and the album produced by Paul Simon out of South Africa.

  • @WarrioressRising when I look at this clip. I can't help but think that at the time she had just lost her only child. at least she left 2 grand kids behind.

  • Watch till the end!

  • Beautiful.

  • Paul Simon and Miriam makeba are very talented musicians,Paul Simon did extra work by exposing African talent, you wonder how much you haven't heard from the house of talent,i.e. south Africa.

  • love these 2 together brilliant lovely people singing for other ones to listen to

  • love you..

  • This music is like your heartbeat...essential to your existence in this life!

  • berceau de l'humanité

  • we are all music lovers. Dismiss all those other people. Live and lo

ve and enjoy life, Life is too short, lets live the joy of music and life. Life is too short to bitch about. Love you all.

  • it was good of Ms. Makeba to let Paul Simon sing with her :)

  • @ryoko65 It was good of her... but also an honor, I beiieve. I think Paul Simon is worthy musical company for Miriam. They sure make some beautiful sound together.

  • @ryoko65 Look at how she smiles at him. It was close by then but it hadn't happened yet. But she can feel it coming, we can all see it. God, to be Paul Simon in that moment.

  • @ryoko65 - It was Paul Simon who brought Miriam Makeba home to South Africa after her own country banned her. When I was in the RSA in 1985, Miriam was still not home, and it took a little Jewish ingenuity to make that happen. But, yes, I do agree it was very good of Ms. Makeba to sing with Paul Simon.

  • crystalship42

    Brava Carmen

  • paul we respect for your support of africans, thank you . Mirriam you re the greatest

  • Lovely lovely video and inspiring music. Graceland was one of Paul's greatest musical achievements and one of the most gifted songwriters of our time. A very special thank you to my good friend Tuks for sharing this with me. Mark

  • Oh boy. Long time since I heard Makeba's voice! Fantastic! So is Simon!!!!

  • I am trying to make sense of the coments not only on this number also others of Graceland. I don't know if Paul Simon is a genius, I like his music, all I know that the band was American(watever that means). Miriam I knew for years and had personally met, Ladysmith was a big surprise. Those who wish to know music that is not sold to us by the few now have internet. I would say you can hear almost anything al long as its on the net. There are exceptions.

  • A Kinder And More Peaceful Time Still Takes Me Away

  • Music that makes you smile is always good music ... wherever it comes from !

  • Days gone bye, what a Legend of all times in Africa

  • vind ik zo mooi he?

  • I am just a simple Dutchy girl, but...

    Mama Africa opend my eyes.

Her background, her voice and all she did for Africa!!! The Lord has chosen her and bledssed her with a voice that is heard all over the world.

She really is one of a kind..some one to be proud of.

MY deepest respect for Miriam Makeba...

She would be proud to see that the WK Football is played in Africa.

    Love you Mama Africa!!!

  • She is so graceful and poised. I love her!!
