Only once have the cables of a traction elevator ever been ripped - at the Empire State Building when it was hit by a plane in 1946 (the person inside the elevator survived). Many people speculate it happened on 9/11 at the WTC, too.

A lot of people know this, but many nice things about these types of hotels. In this tall hotel, the elevators have glass. They talk, too! A small part of each floor inside the building is the actual floor, goes around the building, but not the very middle of it. The elevators are sort of a round shape. The top has a skylight, that's pretty nice, too.

They are not. They're awesome.

Otis did not completely modernize them. They just touched up the panels, replaced some of the vacuum-fluorescent displays, painted all of them silver (I prefer the original red), and upgraded the controller.

In my opinion, that is one of the best elevator rides in the world, mostly due to the fact that it's fast and is windowed.
