I do think that hamster and slow have a genuine bond outside the show. They do all the races and other challenges together and help each other when their cars break down even in botswana when they were expected to leave each other. Hammond stayed with may on death road as he was scared of heights.
If you drive 5 hours through the United States and fail to encounter different cultures, you're not looking for it.
Or possibly you're genuinely in the middle of nowhere. (Parts of Iowa, Montana, Dakotas, etc).
Either way, ignorance is individual, not national. You can be ignorant, bigoted, and unintelligent no matter what country or area of a country you come from.

Over here, it's just like-minded individuals (for the most part) living with like-minded individuals in the same cultural barometer. Going state to state is definitely not as different as cruising the European Union. There *is* culture here in the US, it's just a bit more homogeneous... How can we be hip to EU lingo? lol

Europeans can drive 5hrs in either direction and hit *many* different countries. The US is vast, and pretty much on its own aside from Mexico and Canada. We're never exposed to different cultures, so all we know is our own.

@Chariset actually you are correct. as a matter of fact all three top gear guys are real friends in real life. both clarkson and hammond's kids refer to james may as uncle james. james also saved richard from a bar fight once that richard started while drunk. many people dont know that although richard is a funny and polite mane he also has short guy syndrome and is quick to fight.
