if you really want to get down to the nitty gritty of where this engine comes from, (and this would be for any small CAT diesel used in a Ferris or Bad Boy Mower), this engine is sold under the Caterpillar name. They also own Perkins Diesel, but since the injection pump says Shibaura on it which is made in Japan and looks indentical to the one found on New Holland Tractors that I sold for many years, if I were a betting man, I would say this is a Shibaura Diesel.
