I believe this pattern is the toughest one. Notice all the people leaving 2-8-10's. I usually have the best results by playing just inside the track area using a weaker ball with surface. Keep a tight line to the pocket because if you miss right with the shiny stuff you probably won't recover.
whuddup smooth... whatcha gonna be throwing now when you bowl PBA compitition due to Lane #1 equipment being banned from all PBA tourneys? i like lane #1 equipment and don't understand why they can't be used anymore.. i think they were a "grass roots" company
if lane #1 bowling doesn't renew their registration with the pba, then i have to consider other options, in order to bowl in the pba. i am, first and foremost, a sawhead, always will be.
DJ, don't listen to the haters. The Chameleon is best played where you want to play. Play it where you feel comfortable, and go from there. I completely understand, especially on this pattern, playing where no one else is. Makes great sense on the Chameleon.
I hope you aren't calling me a hater. I just call it like it is. On a PBA pattern, you don't have to hit the same mark every time but you do need to hit your break point. He wasn't doing that, and playing where he was and not being consistant, made no sense at all. That's all I was trying to state.
You aren't consistant enough to play that part of the lane. I guess moving 3 and 2 to the right would have been too much to ask. Get a strong pearl to get through the heads and hit it at the bottom. It's difficult but you make it looks harder than it really is. Remember, straighter is greater.
I remember my first regional at PBA Southwest in San Antonio in 1992. After the first 10 game set I averaged 206 and thought I was good. After the second set, I was down to 197 walking out the door with my tail between my legs. I only had one reactive ball, a Rhino blue. I couldn't control it with the delayed snap and went for the outside line with an old yellow dot. When oil carried down I lost everything. Brian
from what i saw, there were 2 ways to play this "new" chameleon. you either had to be up the gutter or swing it to the 10 board. i made the mistake of playing up the 10 board instead of the outside line, and i don't know why. it was my first adult, much less PBA, tourney so i learned alot when i wasn't nervous out of my mind. i could have made the cut if it wasn't for my first 2 games... i just had to get comfortable first. tough shot + multiple angles bowled = even tougher shot
i crossed next to a player that hooked the whole lane, one that played the ditch and one that played up the 10 board. here's the thing, NO ONE WAS KILLING THE FIELD. the leftys, the scroggins brothers in particular, led the field for 8 games (+229, +189).
let me preface my response with a truthful asessment of my performance. this was not my best showing in a pba regional, i bowled extensively through the week: practice, league, coaching, additional practice on the chameleon pattern. i figured that 24hrs rest would be enough to perform well, i was WRONG!!
i bowled 1374 for 8 games= 171.75 average. it is important to get plenty of rest before bowling on this level.
what makes you think that particular part of the lane is not the place to play? this pattern lends itself to multiple angles of play. i played an area of the lane that no one else played for the first 2 games.
