I like the PSB vocals. Good stuff. The synthesizers, however, were a short-lived musical phenomenon. I prefer the sardonic mood evoked by a funereal brass band.

Please note, those music critics who feel obliged to comment, that this is a 'READING' with incidental music. Mr Burroughs is NOT attempting to sing this song, thank God. He points out the brilliance of Brechts original ideas and also pays tribute to the Marc Blitzstein 1950s translation, which is far better than the 1970s revival one often sees. The earliest translation, done in 1933 for MGM Records, with Lotte Lenya (Weills wife), was vastly superior to any English translation since, IMHO.

Ummm......Burroughs wrote a lot of wonderful things but this classic is by Bertolt Brecht with music by Kurt Weill.

Lmao. I do like this version but not nearly as much as Tom Waits, it's beat isn't as good and personnally I think his raspy voice is the best part.
