The theory about how Zobek survived could be that because he is "Death", he cannot die by any means except by someone who is good of heart. (Gabriel after his resurrection). And probably now that after a thousand years, there is probably no real way to kill Zobek unless someone goes thru a similar path like Gabriel to acquire that similar power.

This game is not in the same Canon as the main series, it's a new series started all over and it will take a different path than the other games, I sure hope they won't neglect the main series.

But it is canon... to itself. It is a reboot, not "they are going to" but "what you just played/watched it that very reboot." It's story does not follow any existing Castlevania mythos so as to avoid having to ret-con yet more stuff from the series (the number of ret-cons in Castlevania is truly frightening).

So, yes, that means that there will be two different universes, both with the Castlevania name, both with their own stories... and they'll have nothing to do with each other,

@mstrswrd I know what Lords of Shadow is, I know its technically canon to itself, but the idea of Lords of Shadow is kinda stupid. Ending it in modern day doesn't work, and Gabriel as Dracula just flat out isn't Castlevania. Personally I think it has a greater chance of ruining the series completely rather than rebooting it. Koji Igarashi, or whatever his name is, wasn't doing a good job, and these new producers didn't do much better. They should get new people. Might help.

@ColeVecsion I'm aware that Aria and Dawn of Sorrow took place in 2035-2036. Bloodlines was in the 1900s, and Portrait of Ruin in 1945 during WWII. So you're the one who should be taking your head out of your ass because you have no idea what I was talking about to begin with. Those were ORIGINALLY set during those time periods. Lords of Shadow starts in 1047 and makes a very awkward transition to modern day. And it doesn't work. Maybe you should read more before trying to piss people off.

@ColeVecsion Well, can't please everyone. My biggest problem is that I'm used to seeing Dracula as a (usually) menacing figure. Now he looks like a rotting old hermit with serious dental issues and what used to be a hero. I'm not a fan of reboots, and this one... eh, doesn't do it for me.

But like i said. Can't please everyone. I thought Scott Pilgrim vs. The World was a really stupid movie, along with a bunch of other people. But a majority liked it. Am I wrong there too? Just curious. ;)

As for Dracula, is it your perception of him via the castlevania series(which has changed constantly) or all the way back to Béla Lugosi or the silent films? though regardless it's been some thousand years between the first ending & the 2nd ending, numerious factors involved into why he would look like that, just have to wait for the 2nd DLC to explain it~!

For Dracula, obviously I meant the Castlevania series. When they FINALLY decided what to make him look like, they based his age appearance on how much blood he's had. Even then its still all over the place, but I was referring to his (usually) menacing presence as a character.

For a 'reboot' of the series, this game certainly borrows a LOT of ideas from Lament of Innocence. The brotherhood, pre-dracula time time period in the beginning, Satan greatly resembling Mathias from LoI, Several thousand mentions of Gandolfi, a character FROM LoI, the partnership of Dracula and Death, honestly, until I was told this was a reboot, I was completely convinced that it was a LoI sequel, figuring Gabriel (not) Belmont fights Mathias, becoming (not) dracula in the process.

@berserkchip Just because it's a reboot doesn't mean it can't continue to use characters from previous story line. It makes it easier to follow the story for those of us who are familiar with the lore. I particularly liked how Gabriell's armor resembles Simon's in Castlevania 2: Simon's quest.

Master, the problem with that theory is the fact that the god mask went with Marie and all the other souls, thus being removed from existence. The only other mask that remained was the broken version of the god-mask which gaberiel could have kept watch over, causing him to split off into archangel and dracula.

We have no way of knowing how he became dracula until the next game comes out....or the DLC.

Not broken version of mask. A "Devil Mask". A mask whose origins seemingly are depths of hell and its creation of purpose is unknown.

My bet is that his "immortality"(A true "unable to be killed" immortality, unlike the "long long life" immortality of normal lords of shadow) is a punishment from god for his sin. In a sense Gabriel got a whole eternity to "repent".

Heck, Marie pretty much spells that out in their last cutscene.

I think I have a theory.

Gabe here could be either the last boss of the next Castlevania with Zobek as the new shaft, or he could be the hero again to take on Satan again.

Explanation of why he may be the next villain: He might have gotten deeply depressed and started living off as what he hated the most, vampires, while not yet renouncing God. He may know redemption by the hands of the new hero, or may never gain it after all.

His "soul" went to heaven to fight in gods war as an Archangel while his "taint" remained on earth, aka Dracula. The taint left behind when one is ascended to heaven is what created the 3 lords of shadow in the first place.

@TheLydianRocks *spoiler alert* according to the dlc reverie gabriel did not ascend into heaven. he drinks the blood of laura, killing her, and therefore becoming a creature of darkness. in the dlc resurrection he absorbs power from a demon named the forgotten one, though he was referring to himself as a dragon already before he did so.. also when his wife ascends to heaven, she basically says he's not coming.( I think, been awhile since I saw that part)

That was the case with the three lords of shadow, yess, but not with Gabriel.

Gabriel as a whole is bound to earth. He is truly immortal(unlike the lords of shadow) and in a sense his immortality is god's punishment for his sins. Now as for how he became a vampire - i guess the upcoming DLC expansion pack will deal with that ;]

Think of THE DEATH as an eternal force that exists everywhere. Necromancers try to control that force and GrimReapers are the "messengers" of that force.

Zobek pretty much became the incarnate of Death(the same way Jesus is incarnate/messiah of God) and is the "Death" character of this timeline.

Let's hope we have a Castlevania with Alucard into the pool again with a shitload of armor/magic items, just one huge castle to re-visit some areas and and the Exp points system a la SotN.
