  • I made a big batch of sauce today for this, and so much walnuts to save for another time, I must say, Made this with thighs and breasts for my family had a get together, me, my mother, sister, my niece, and 2 brothers, made a huge batch. and only a small bit left for tomorrow. I made some brocolli to go with it. You are one amazing woman. I love your recipes (again of course I did chicken instead of shrimp. and the sauce was so good, it was well coated thanks so much Lila from our family.

  • @lov3r4lif3 Oh I'm so glad everyone liked it - Thank you so much for trying my recipes and for all of these wonderful comments! :)

  • Can I do that with pork chops as well?

  • thank you , it's really helpful

  • @4kpm Thank you for watching :)

  • i use vinegar in my sauce.

  • Awsome Thanks

  • @Robotboy12000 Thank you for watching :)

  • You Changed my Life!!!

  • vinegar is better than lemon juice for this recipe in my opinion

  • how much flower did you use ?

  • I'm going to try this recipe soon~ It looks great and I bet it tastes even better! :3

  • I'm not a big fan of mayonnaise, can I use Mircle Whip? And btw, this is my favorite shrimp dish!

  • @LeesaLovely Yes, you can use any brand of mayonnaise you like :)

  • @AsianCookingmadeEasy is it a difference on what kind i use such aspure in a container with a bee hive

  • @LeesaLovely Try vegan mayo, not as oily as regular mayo, but has the same tang as miracle whip and half the fat.

  • @LeesaLovely ugh mircle whip? why bother just use nothing at all.

  • Does this taste like panda express o.o

  • @Complete52 Panda Express makes horrible Honey Walnut Shrimp, this WILL taste BETTER.

  • I have to say, I followed this recipe to a "t," and although it doesnt taste exactly like the restaurant style honey walnut, it does taste ridiculously good. I would rate this recipe an 8 out of 10. The restaurant style would be a 10.

  • This is awesome. My favorite appetizer . Thanks to you I can make these in my dorm for all my roommates to enjoy!

  • What if you don't have any mayonnaise? Is there a substitute for mayonnaise?

  • Can I use corn oil

  • @jan8919 Yes you can use corn oil for this recipe as well :)

  • she's cute.

  • Had these first in a Chinese/Thai fusion restaurant in Carson City, NV...the best stuff on Earth! Honestly!! Amazingly delicious~

  • @tubeeorrnottubee Thank you for watching :)

  • if u dont have honey, can u use syrup instead? like the ones u eat with waffle and pancake

  • @lilogirl630 The flavor will be quite different b/c of the maple flavor, but you could try it just to experiment :)

  • Just like that?

  • marry me???

  • add about 1 1/2 tbsp of your prefer oil in to the batter and mixed it in. the batter will be extra crisp and fluffy

  • is there a substitute for the peanut oil?

  • @YoshieCCL You could use vegetable or canola oil as well :)

  • Great recipe just like the restaurant . Love your southern accent!

  • what is TBSP?!

  • @Brighitecka Tablespoon :)

  • For some reason, I always thought they used coconut in this recipe.

  • Lila, This Honey Walnut Shrimp recipe is the same as if you get a Chinese restaurant :)

  • @DefOT001 Oh good - I'm so glad you liked it - thank you :)

  • I made this! It was pretty good but next time i'm going to try it with less mayonnaise and more honey... and I'd like to try it with grilled shrimp instead of fried, I'll leave the frying to the real cooks, cause I got splashed with hot oil so many times it was not funny... well, it was kind of funny.

  • @TheMegnisthebest Grilled shrimp is a great idea! Thank you :)

  • This is so delicious but probably one of the worst things for you. Fried shrimp, fried sugared walnuts, and sweet mayo. Some of the worst things all together.. but so yummy!

  • can you use vegetable oil instead of peanut oil?

  • @rsnerd11 Yes vegetable oil will work fine :)

  • I just found your channel!@! Love it I am subbing now! This is a must try!!

  • can u use cooked frozen shrimp or u have 2 use raw?

  • @cath4410 For this recipe it is best to use raw b/c the batter needs to cook onto the shrimp. If you used pre cooked shrimp they will probably be a bit tough and overcooked in the final dish :)

  • @AsianCookingmadeEasy thax u i bought some raw shrimp and made it it was delicious thax u so much for the recipe :)

  • thank you so much. You made my dinner really speacial tonight. Thank you!

  • hmm? i remember trying this dish at quik wok and it was breaking my brain ingrdients. lol. i knew i tasted condensed milk, lemon and honey. but no mayo. the sauce tasted like icecream sauce

  • OMG watching this when i'm so hungry wasn't a great idea... Yummy!

  • this looks even better than the honey walnut shrimp i had at panda express. i wonder how many calories it has though LOL

  • I"m going to suprise my girl by cooking this on our anniversary trip to Carmel,CA..love it!!

  • Thank you for the recipe, I have had this at a restaurant, only it was chicken. Ive always wanted to recreate it, I will definitely try the prawn too.

  • hey, is it necessary to mix the water with the flour to form a batter or am i allowed to coat the shrimps directly with the flour as a powder form? Will the outcome be any different?? Thanks!!

  • @KidTorino Without the water the coating will be quite different, a bit crunchy and dry :)

  • sooo i tried this recipe, and idk it just seems like there is something missing from it. It was okay, might serve it on occasion when I run out of things to cook. Thanks though I like your vids

  • Tried this, and my husband is a big fan, thank you!

  • Can you make a video cooking pad see ew. I have tried cooking that dish 3 times and have failed miserably. Please help

  • @metasak I will put this on my request list - thank you for writing and watching :)

  • subscribed!

  • this looks soo good!

  • Thank you so much. This video was very easy to understand and helped a ton.

  • this is a really easy instructions video... my family and i love honey wallnut shimp.

  • you did make it look easy. plus you're cute!

  • hi! if i use regular oil, is that okay?

  • @paosand1 Yes, any vegetable or canola oil would work fine :)

  • I love this dish, I found a honey coated walnut snack that easily adds to this! ($2.99 at any asian market)

    Great vid!

  • Mmmm they look so good

  • I love your videos and have found ways to slightly modify YOUR wonderful recipes to fit with my diabetic diet. It has added so much variety and taste to my diet and kept my blood sugar stable. I eliminate corn starch and use xanthem gum or guar gum to thicken instead. eliminate condensed milk and use regular milk and Splenda instead, etc. Staying healthy and eating well, the best of all worlds! thank you Lela

  • @dgreen97 These are great ideas! Thank you so much for sharing this info :)

  • @dgreen97 Thank you so much for this comment! This helps me!

  • what can i serve with this to make a complete meal?

  • I usually serve this with white rice and stir fried broccoli :)

  • I have been doing your recipe about 5 times and it's delicious!! The last three times however the shrimps have bee gettiing stuck to the bottom of the pan while I deep fry them, the batter gets stuck to the bottom after I scrape the shrimps...Could it be because it's too thick??

  • Hi -the thickness of the batter wouldnt cause this. It may be that the wok is over crowded try cooking less shrimp at one time. Also, make sure that the excess batter drips off the shrimp as you add them to the oil :)

  • yes but thick batter would make it harder to drips off so I'l try thinner next time and report back:)

  • my fave recepie i lovee walnut shrimp its sooo good. thanks for the recipie

  • Omg sitting at the computer like a stuft PIG this recipe was so good (tried it Out today) delicious!!!!!!

  • Which will make a lighter batter, the flour or the corn starch? Can you use baking soda instead of flour?

  • Flour makes a lighter batter than cornstarch. Baking soda can not be used in place of flour, it's usually added to flour (just a little) to make it rise. However, when you use it you also need an acid to make the baking soda react :)

  • @AsianCookingmadeEasy

Thanks for the reply, really appreciate it. I made the walnut shrimp for my new year celebration for new years this past weekend and everyone loved it.

  • SO glad i found your channel and found this. i absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this shrimp. its delicious. i made it and was in heaven eating it. cant wait to make it again. thanks for posting all these videos/recipes.

  • cornstarch is also okay for making the batter

  • Lila, do you toss it in a regular dish or toss it on a med hot wok? Thanks in advance.

  • You toss it in a regular dish :)

  • Can You Use anytime of Mayo? Will it taste the same, or do you need to use a specific kind?

  • I love Hellman's and that's what I used, but any kind will work fine - just make sure it's one you like :)

  • shred some cabbage an put it on a plate and add honey walnut shrip over it an it will be DELICIOUS!!!!YUMMO!!!!!IT A SECRET YOU TUBE PPL...!!!!SSHHH!!!TRY IT!!

  • I just made this honey walnut shrimps and it was D_E_L_I_C_I_O_U_S!!! Even better than honey walnut shrimps I eat at my local fav. Chines rest.! I cooked on a side some stir fried onions, broccoli and carrots with a bit of soy sauce and ate it as a side dish with the shrimps YUM! :) TY so much!

  • i swar i can smell the shrimp frying ! haha

  • Can you use any type of flour and also you dont need any eggs for this recipe?

  • I used all purpose flour for this recipe and no eggs :)

  • im hungry noww lol

  • is this the same kind of shrimp they serve at chinese buffets

  • It is just like the honey walnut shrimp that you order in a restuarant :)

  • better! I just ate some I made OMG!

  • when u set the sauce aside should you maybe put it into the fridge, since it contains mayonnaise?

  • I don't think it's necessary since it only takes about 15 min to cook the shrimp. Plus you don't want the sauce to be cold when you toss it with the shrimp either :)

  • MMM IM HUNGRY NOW

  • mmm oh ok well like i said thank u for sharing your cooking skills and tell your husband hes a very lucky man .

can u show us how to make cream puffs panda express style?

  • girl u look beutyful in every video

  • Thank you very much!!! its very very good.

  • Thank you very much for posting. My family loves this dish.

  • Would chicken breast also work? How large would the pieces need to be and would it change the frying time much?

  • Yes chicken breasts would work too. Just cut them into about 1 1/2 to 2 inch pieces and cook them a little longer than the shrimp, about 8 minutes or so :)

  • I just had honey walnut shrimp for the first time at Panda Express and I loved it. I'm glad that I found this video - now I can make it myself and not have to drive to the other side of town to the Panda Express. :-)

  • Dumb dumb here went and bought Hazel Nuts instead of walnuts.

Think it'll still work with these?

  • lol- I've never tried them in this dish, but I think they would work. I would just chop them slightly (place them in a plastic bag and just band them a few times.) I would also use a little less, maybe like 1/2 to 3/4 cup. I'd love to know how this tastes - let me know if u do this :)

  • I didn't want to take a risk, so now I have walnuts too.

Might cook two dishes, one with hazelnuts, one with hazelnuts, but both prepared as you reccomend.

I'm doing Kleftika (Greek beggars lamb) just now.

  • Never tried this, nor seen it on a menu over here.

Gonna buy some shrimp and mayonaisse tomorrow.

    Got the rest.

  • i love this dish. tastes great. now i learned how to make it. THANKS!

  • thanks for uploading this video!!!

    it was really helpful!

    :)

  • my favorite dish when in chinatown, thanks

  • Comment removed

  • hi Leela. would this work for already cooked shrimp?

  • If you were to coat and then fry the pre-cooked shrimp it would probably come out tough and overcooked. If the shrimp are already cooked and breaded or coated, then you can just warm them up and toss them with the sauce :)

  • omg, i love you! ive trying to find a video like this. this is like ny favorite dish ever!!! i eat it alot at weddings im chinese so we have like those dinner and weddings type things lol

  • This is one of my favorite dishes. It's Decadent. Iwill venture to try it. Thanks so much for your vids. They take the mystery out of a lot of my favorite chinese dishes and have expanded my 'homemade' skills. And while I'm here, thanks for the pork bun recipe. God I love porkbuns! You're the best.

  • Can I make this exact same recipe with chicken cutt up into pieces? Please say yes, My husband loves walnut chicken but they only have it at one chinese resturaunt and i really want to make it for him!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes, it should work fine with chicken as well :)

  • Thank you - I know there is little of me, but it's simply b/c I just have one camera and myself - so it's a bit hard to shoot, cook, and get my face in at the same time. I need to work on getting asecond cam, then I can shoot from both angles :)

  • omg, this chinese restaurant closed by my house and it used to make the best walnut shrimp. i cant wait to try this recipe at home!!! tomorrow!!! thanks!! it looks really simple when i watched you do it

  • The Botter? Where do I get botter from?

  • Ha Ha Ha...."Butter"....I know I have a funny accent - I'm trying to change it :)

  • i was also wondering can i use any kind of condensed milk? does it have to be an asian kind?..thanks

  • Any kind of condensed milk will work fine :)

  • thank you so much for all your help..

  • wow..looks really yummy i hope i get the time to do this tonite but i was wondering for the "flour" can i use any kind? or does have to be like all purpose flour? or tapioca? or cornstarch? i love this dish if my favorite one in the world thank you so much for sharing and making this video! please let me know which flour to use thanks

  • I used an all purpose flour in this recipe. If you use a different type it will change the texture of the shrimp; and the cornstarch will make it crunchier :)

  • i did exactly what you showed turned out great thank so so much...i'm very happy thanks to you!..also thanks for responding so fast really appreciate it ! :>)..take care hope you do more vid.

  • Thank you. It's one of my favorite dishes and now I can cook it in the comfort of my own home.

  • realllllly good vid!

  • I used another recipe last night and stumbled across this one today the other recipe calls for cornstarch and egg etc for the coating before frying the prawns.

i'd like to know which is more crunchier.. the cornstarch and egg coating or flour and water ? please let me know thanks!

by the way awesome video!! :D

  • The flour and water will give these shrimp a light crunch. I think the cornstarch will make it crunchier, and the egg a bit heavier :)

  • thank you leela. Honey walnut shrimp is one of my favorite food. Now i can cook it in my house. More power!!

    Frolics

  • Thank you Leela.

It looks good. I will try it today.

  • I have been looking for Honey Walnut Shrimp recipe for over a year now. I just went to the Asian store this morning and bought some raw tiger prawns when I first saw this video last night. I've tried other recipes but they were not as good as this one. To make it even easier I just use Tempura batter rather than making it from scratch (also it's cheaper too!). Use medium to big raw shrimp....Lila THANKS A LOT!!! My family loved it!!

  • my favorite dish

anytime nd everytime i eat chinese i order this bad boy :)

  • wow awesome! Very easy steps. I will deffy try this at home
