  • Hey Boonie

Did you mic that bass drum?

    or just sampling?

  • Boon! Will you start releasing some tutorial's for ya boy here? I could use your advise on arrangements. Hell, on everything... nice job on the remake suhn!

  • BOONIE IS ONE OF THE GREATS!!! THIS GOES TO SHOW YOU DONT HAVE TO BE ALL OVER THE BIG SCREEN TO REACH OR ACHIEVE GREATNESS!!!! #RESPECT

  • Real Peaceful. Stay true brother.

  • Whats wrong with hiphop, listeners dont know the different between a Sample-beat, an instrumental, and a pure remake lol

  • yo boonie wassup man this D-Que...aye you might have to make some samples for me that i can flip....some original shit so i wont have to go through all the legal hassle to clear samples haha good shit homie forreal

  • almost thought this was just a straight sample for a sec but after reading the description it blew my mind. Very nice Boonie you have a lot of talent sir.

  • Bang on Boonie....this shit is legit. How long you been playing keys?

  • Excellent job B! I always like your positive vibe, and the ability to express yourself without vulgarity. Good influence. Stay grounded my friend. Thanks for the post. Oh, and great job on the bass, not bad for just a few months.

  • Dope

  • whats the instrument at the 2:17 mark. percussion type of instrument but whats it called?

  • @sbdon71 that's not a percussion instrument. those were rhodes with extra effects

  • @BlackTuezday alright coo thx 4 the reply

  • @BlackTuezday Sounds sick boonie. Is it just off the ES1 in Logic?

  • definitely getting better with the playing aspect.

I would like to hear what you could do with a very good band, in the studio

  • Damn Boon.....sounds just like the real thing! I'm telling you, you crossed over from making beats to an all out music producer a while back fam. I look forward to the day I can say "I remember when...." Good stuff sir!

  • nice!

  • I see 3 people failed fourth grade and still trying to advance.

  • this joint nice as always fam

  • Boonie.....Its absolutely ridiculous how you never cease to amaze me. Since I started following you in 08' I had proclaimed you as one of my favorite producers next to Timbo and Dre. You continue to inspire my work and blow my mind with your musical swag. Much love and respect brotha. -Qwiq

  • that organ oh mannnnn

  • great job man. keep it up!!

  • This is hot Boon. You did a great job with the instrumentation man. Captured the vibe of the original perfectly...

  • Wich one should I get? MPC 1000 or MPC 2000XL or Maschine?

  • @CasaProductions1 Maschine man! But only because its integrated with software and can be upgraded and stuff could be added.. Otherwise I would say MPC!!! The machine is a beast though..

  • @CasaProductions1 i had and Sp1200 Mpc2000 xl and Maschine. I say go with Maschine. It does everything you need except time stretching and it can be upgraded.. Plus if you have VST you will not need a rack full of gear. Im about to go chop up some samples now

  • Love that subtle organ.

  • Would Really like to see a vid of you creating or recreating this.

  • I am thoroughly impressed. Sounds very natural! Not an easy task. Excellent job! Perfect mix.

  • NICE!

  • Swag boonie, Swag...

  • Very Nice Keep Grindin

  • 2 people are like shoes with a missing bottom. No Soul

  • Damn Boonie...you got the sounds nice...great job man

  • People that did'nt read the begin entry actually thought this is a instrumental! PERFECT PERFECT JOB!!!***

  • @madfran6 lol good point. thanks brotha

  • MAN THIS IS 2 SICK

  • extremely dope!

  • damn. was this a hard find or did you get lucky? I hear this 45 is almost rare. a jb favorite of mine. Sounds like you added a few things might be mistaken though. always look forward to your videos!! love from NM

  • @jasandoval7433.... (sigh) Ok, sorry I might come off frustrated, but it seems like some people just keep missing something... if you just read what's in the beginning of the video OR even in the video description OR just realllly LISTEN, you'll know THIS IS NOT A SAMPLE FLIP... I repeat... THIS IS NOT A SAMPLE FLIP. What you're hearing is ALL replayed by ear. So, for the last time lol.... there are NO loops, chops, pieces, 45's, 12"s, mp3's etc. in this track

  • @BlackTuezday My bad yo...guess i should read more carefully or pay better attention...lol. but dam!...everything is right on point!! I knew you had skill but damn son! Im suprised as to how you were able to replicate the original version and make it sound so like the original!, but shit, never the less that shit was dope. Nice tribute! I apologize. Peace.

  • dude this is crazy . i wouldn't expect nothin less from one of the best producers on the tube.

  • Comment removed

  • Absolute Crack!!!! I really like how you remade this! If you get a chance, check my beats out on my channel...

  • real music!! good shi!

  • great love the horns and the alto sax keep it going we r the new generation peac and love soul

  • man, like the old folks say about cooking, "you put your foot in this". good job bruh.

  • good job. King Heroin is my ultimate favorite groove, so i can appreciate the time you put in to remake (cover) the JB classic.

  • Boonie, this remake is incredible. Much respect man, peace!

  • god damn you boonie.. GENIUS!

  • Another top-notch job, Boon!!! God bless!

  • @wakinuthia Naw.. I wish lol! I just named myself after him because he's one of my top 3 producer-artists, along with Marvin and James.

  • lovin this remake homie!!

  • I dig how this is flipped much differently as the way Dilla fflipped it, yet they both sound kind alike, haha. Keep it up G.

  • @ganjaplanta650 I don't get what you mean lol... I didn't "flip" it. there's no samples, chops or excerpts from th song. everything was replayed and meant to sound like the original composition. there is a difference between sample-flips and remakes brotha

  • this isnt heroin this shit is crack. good work as usual mr boon. what are you using to record that bass, soundcard i assume?

  • @TheFreshPeddler I use the One by Apogee to record the bass and misc. software plug-ins to get different tones.

  • @BlackTuezday - thanks bro, you got any recommendation on a solid budget (200 or less) external usb (dont have firewire) interface? is the advantage of fw worth installing it and going that route instead? been considering the fast track pro

  • @TheFreshPeddler I don't have much knowledge on all the different interfaces out there to be honest with you. But, I do know the Apogee One (which I use as well as my mbox2) is a great device for the price. It's only a little bit above the budget you're going for. $250

  • @BlackTuezday - thanks man, ill look into that one as well. ill be happy if i can get my latency down to the point where i dont have to edit half of what i record. i/o's are nice too. have a good one

  • @TheFreshPeddler Native Instruments just came out with a new one as well. Not sure how much it is, but probably around $300. The mbox mini is good as well

  • @BlackTuezday - digidesign is quality for sure but it seems like you get less for the money. i guess it will come down to what i can get on craigslist for a decent price lol. probably the fast track pro since m audio is so prevalent on there. appreciate the info man. keep making those classics

  • I was always wanting to make or hoping someone would re-make this tune. Nicely done!

  • Can't get over how good this is!

  • this remake beat is real nice big up mr. boonie boon docs mayfield

  • Yo Boonie, when I think of the best producers, DJ Quik, DJ Battlecat, DJ Premier and TMix(Suave House) come to mind. I guess it's time to add your name to that list. Next time, can we get a vid of you killin the keys and the bass? Peace homie.

  • You look like you could be his son! lol

But on the real, good shit homie! Where are beatmaking vids at bro?!!

  • great tribute to a classic song

  • Excellent work. Spitting image of original! James is one of the three greatest of all time.

  • @dirty47 Who are the other two in your opinion? I hope you don't disappoint and not say Stevie Wonder. Lol.

  • @Scales1981 Hahaha, man, I'd have to be a complete idiot to NOT put Stevie right there. And the more I think about it, in my mind, anybody else would be a very distant third. (Take a pick: Isaac Hayes, Bob Marley, George Clinton, Michael Jackson)

  • @dirty47 Lol. Nice picks. U made me proud.

  • heh, in USA you can have mind-state like alchemist, because money from music is higher. Here in Poland, we have to extremely believe that one day, we can achieve success, we have to extremely focus on our passion and still we have no money from it. Only the strongest will survive in Polish beatmakin industry ;)

  • Your music and your outlook on life is very inspiring to me, boonie.

  • EVERYONE! go listen to J Dilla's Heroin, a rare, but amazing gem (uses the same sample)

  • just listened to the original version, fucking spot on dude. how long did it take you to do this remake? and will you do a Michael Jackson remake next?

  • Love it! Worthy tribute, no doubt. R.I.P. JB. Props from Amsterdam for this one homey! Bless..

  • Nice one homie....

  • This has no right to be so awesome.

  • Still my favorite producer on all of YouTube!!

  • Man !!! this is so dope. I have the same track trying to different things with it, just haven't came up with anything that moves me to continue with it, ya know? Trying to find different chops to this is just sooooo hard because there are sooooo many amazing parts. But you did a helluva job my brotha. ALL PROPS 2 U

  • killer beat Boonie

  • I appreciate for the fact that u gave tribute to James Brown and Dilla since he sampled it. Very well done, those horns are crazy!

  • will ride you...to HELL

    to HELL

    will ride you to HELL

    until you are DEAD

  • Good job bro.

  • I know what you mean Boon, you just have to stop worrying, there's no point in worrying about things.

    What happens happens.

  • Thanks Boonie, I can feel the presence of "The Godfather" with this jam, i know he smiling as we listen!

  • Happy Birthday James Brown! RIP...

    Boonie, good shit.

  • Your an inspiration man, keep doing what you doing! And I'll try and keep up lol

  • This is a helluva remake.Sounds so much like the original it's scary (good scary).

Sinc I've followed you on you tube from jump street, you've showed that there are no limits to producing music.I think James would be please if he were alive and heard this.Much respect brotha !

  • Truly gifted Bro, mastering your crafts at multiple levels ... Transcending Hip-Hop by paying homage to the essence, Soul music the God Father who changed music ... Bless up , every time I watch or hear something you created/re-created I'm reminded how passionate I need to be when I'm creating.. You the truth bro.. Keep building ..

  • damn boon...u get better every time i hear u. takes a brotha wit big nutts to remake a james brown cut.....good shit my dude !!!!!!!

  • Nice work man! Glad to see how far you've gotten

  • thats a smooth beat boondoc!

  • u need to do this more often boonie

  • Boonie,

Yo fam producer to producer. I really suggest that you one day soon! Go into music education. They style of hip hop that we produce is dieing fast and it would be great have such great talent like yours at Berklee College of Music of a accredited school like that. Even 9th Wonder and Bun B have taken this route dispite thier wealth. I seen you vids for the first time years ago and I went from a bass player to a beat maker. Peace and God bless you!

  • @treydeeze Oh believe me... I've definitely gave that a lot of thought and I plan on it someday. I don't think it'll be soon (but who knows).. if/when an opportunity like that comes around I'll take it without hesitation.

  • ♥ it! great work!

  • good work

  • I want all the Drum Kits from you so bad.^^ But at first, I gotta get myself an MPC...

  • Probably the most cliche thing I could ever say... but dude explain to me why you're not on 100grand a beat? seriously?

  • @rootiful lol thanks, but i don't know. i guess part of it might be because I stopped caring about chasing placements. i'm just gonna keep focusing on growing as a musician, working with my group and putting together some instrumental albums. I got to a point in life where I'm just going to let whatever happen naturally. What ever's meant to be, will be.

  • @BlackTuezday do you have a day job? there's an alchemist interview where he said that the reason why he survived so long in the game is that money was not treated as motivation but just as a bonus. Great outlook on life, but you have to have a secure job

  • @RAAB0601 I've been self-employed doing music since '06. and my mind-state has always been just like what Alchemist said. In fact... throughout all these years, every time I've stressed about money, I actually struggled more attaining it... it always made things worse. As soon as I'd just BE, let go, relax and know that I'm going to be okay... money and opportunities came rolling in. Faith is a powerful thing when... you just "KNOW".

  • @BlackTuezday Actually man funny that's been my biggest flaw in music lately, but hearing that feels refreshing... gotta it as much as we need money to live... I need to make music to survive, in the sense that without music I aint got notttthing lol. peace

  • @BlackTuezday You are very fortunate, would say lucky but you deserve it. Keep doin your thing man.

  • @RAAB0601 PREACH BROTHER!

  • Hot!! Boon Love It fam big ups on this joint & RIP THE KING OF SOUL FUNK AND HIPHOP JAMES BROWN

  • OOOOOOOOOH shiiiiiiiiitt this is that heroin alright.. nice work yo sounds dope

    infinite props my G

  • This joint is very soulful Boon Doc. I'm a sampleholic. Been practicing keys more to get to this point where i could replay a sample. James Brown is happy with you right now. Keep progressing.

  • smooth, its difficult to make digital sounds sound natural like this. inspirational fam. bless

  • Great choice too! Those funk guitars are cuttin!! NI is blowin minds bro with all of their stuff. I'm thinking of laying down some cash on their stuff real soon. BTW, have you ever run across any problems with permission settings with NI products. I downloaded and installed a free version of Kontakt 4 and it wreaked havoc on my Logic and certain audio interface drivers. Contacted NI support, but they couldn't recreate the problem and provide a feasible fix solution.

  • Great remake of a classic. Good job !!!

  • Very organic and soulful! So, let me get this straight; the Fender Jazz Bass is the only live instrument played on this track? Wow! You have a great ear and a slick vibe for making your tracks sound like real instruments, played by real musicians. Great job! BTW, how do you like NI products? Check out NI's George Duke Soul Treasures, when you get a chance.

  • @4iamu thanks fam. lol yeah the Bass was the only thing live. everything else I played on the keys. I absolutely LOVE the NI products. I haven't been disappointed with any of them. I was looking at the George Duke joint not too long ago, but I decided to cop the Funk Guitarist program instead lol.

  • Comment removed

  • @BlackTuezday George Duke Soul Treasure is awesome, i got mine during the 50 % off campaign, however i would probably have gotten the funk guitarist as well, if it was out back then.

  • its crazy how real the horns sound.

  • good shit man

  • This is great.

  • real dope homie.

  • This is really tight. I love it man! you are truly getting better and better and better! This is the natural progression of a musician; from beat maker to musician. You should set this as a download. I could listen to this over and over!

  • sounds really nice man!

  • Doc you are Beasting it!

  • this is incredible, great job.

  • This is amazing, dude. Crazy remake! Good work on the bass too.

  • I respect this so much I know sampling is an art form but to learn how to create what you hear is a sample instead of just sampling shows diligence

That is why I dont sample if I am a fan of something I want to learn how its done

  • instead of uploading it on j browns bday you uploaded it on mine :D thank you for that. awesome beat

  • @Onlineshrekjr happy birthday brotha

  • @Onlineshrekjr Damn homie you grew so much! You done hit that next level. You are a the inspiration of the younger up and coming producers to aspire to be better and original.

  • @umbrellah lol.. thank you :P

  • Great work fam! R.I.P James Brown!

  • love this....when the strings kicked in...WOOOOOOOOO...yeah i felt that in my pubes man, lol....great music, great remake

  • fire boom you one of the reason i make beats serious peace.

  • Damn doc that is ill! What did you use for the great horns which already start in the begin of the song

  • @teunzeist everything I used is in the video description. just click on "show more"

  • This really respects the original version

  • thats some crazy shit. i feel it

  • Love the organ runs! Makin' me melt!

  • Killed it Boon...

  • @bullpukie word.
