  • This is what life is about..

  • Those 8 dislikes must be joyless arseholes!! never flown a kite or had a life cuz its all pointless

  • Just brilliant...

  • @MrLecig123

    Dustin O'Halloran ;)

  • @verona123 where!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You can feel the Mediterranean warmness. it's like pissing in your pants and you are not worried about.

  • @gzler That analogy leaves me very uncomfortable.

  • @SkyrimTownGuard :) That analogy just came out after the first-time listening. Very genuine :)

  • @gzler It still makes me want to shower and change my pants...

  • I love this band, discovered them when my daughter lived in Brooklyn.

  • ESTA ES PARA MI!!

  • Simply: great! :)

  • I like Julian Hertz' version more!

  • That's a band who really love the music, who really have fun during playing and singing! Zach ist

the most talented man I've ever seen.

    Go, Beirut! I love you!

  • Hebrews 12:19 to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them.

Beirut is nothing more than Angels in Human form. Religion is flaud because it is man made, but God is Real, and he works in MYSTERIOUS ways. If this band can't show you that, then smack yourself over and over again.

  • the great band i have seen...

  • me encanta beirut, su voz es única, saludos desde chile

  • sounds like "Jeff Buckley" RIP

  • @mosyo Not Really........

  • Beautiful!

  • how does he find the breath for brass and singing?!

  • @erinhg he's is an angel in human form

  • Mr Condon is high xD

  • apparently there are 5 idiots who have no taste in music, and wouldn't recognize good music if it hit them in the back of the cock =)

i can't explain how much i love this version of a sunday smile

    it's just plain ASTONISHING!

    BEIRUT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • God I LOVE that voice!! :-)

  • Owh oke doesnt matter i watched it again and what i missed really is the festival thing beirut ussualy puts in his music that what makes it extraordinary good the chinese girl sings awful and it sounded like a some church song but at the end when the drummer gone insane xD it got way better

  • there's something about beirut that just hits me deep inside and brings out so much latent emotion. i experience such a vast array of feelings when i hear their music. when i'm feeling up and happy they make me feel so inspired, and when i'm feeling down i'm like a moth to light and just have to listen, even if it brings me to tears. ok enough of the wishy washy sappy stuff. i totally dig em regardless.

  • uh oh I checked it out

    actually it's Later...with Jolls Holland

    I beg your pardon ;)

  • This whas actually in holland? I live there I'm ashamed I didn't even know of this awesome performance

  • @Vespanius

No, it's from a british show called "Later with...Jools Holland".

Jools Holland is the presenter's name.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!! BEAUTIFUL!!! YESS!

  • I'm so jealous that Jools gets so many good performances and all we get in America is Justin Bieber.

  • @Omgberto You get this too, you're watching it, aren't you? It's the new world. Everything is for every one :)

  • I love that Zach's singing style came from trying to imitate Stephin Merritt, or so I've read. Nothing like it, but equally brilliant and nice to listen to.

    Love them!

  • anyone know the chords for the baritone uke?

    .

  • gorgeous =)

  • Comment removed

  • I love how every time he does it live, everything song is completely different than the studio versions :D

  • Mkes me cry :) with happiness

  • I love this song, the intro and outro are delish x

  • I love the voice of Zach, i could listen to him always....

  • my favourite band¡¡¡¡ lovely song :D

  • I struggle to think of another band of this kind that doesn't feature a guitar/bass/drum set-up even at it's core. It's quite a brave venture in my opinion, but one that is wholly appreciated. It's far to easy to turn to such staples as a comfort zone when writing music, it's much more of a challenge to arrange a piece for a larger, almost miss-matched group of musicians.

  • @Mushman34 well put and yes the bold and yet still unheard but i love them!

  • @Mushman34 hmm, i wouldn't say 'brave'. it makes it sound as if other bands have been scared to do this. i just think no one's thought about creating music this way before and now it's came along, like it was supposed to, in the form of Beirut. what better way, really?

  • Gosh, I gotta love that Jools Holland show!

  • @frusciantefan8 ya man. i'm with ya......anthing at anytime.

  • me hace llorar

  • I would have loved to be there!

  • humanly inspiring

  • how does the next band follow THAT?!

  • @artintheforest very respectfuly :)

  • Jools Holland has some spectacular performances like Bon Iver's "Skinny Love."

  • l realy love this song

  • Which were the other groups that just played before Beirut and the ones about to play?

  • Agree that this sounds great and Zach has a great voice but surely worth saying that its beirut as a band that make it so good!?

  • :3 Omg love this so much.

  • I love this band SO MUCH! Zach Condon's voice is incredible.

  • ukelele rules jaja:)

  • How can this be so good, oh my god, really really good. Thanks so much foe posting

  • Zach is the sweetest thing!

  • the best way to end my day, this song is like heaven <3 :)

  • Wonderful, thankfully Jools decided not to join in and add some 'boogie-woogie' piano to this.

    Great upload, many thanks.

  • i want to marry zach condon

  • better version than the record

  • LSD

  • You don't need it

  • some times

  • Sounds like Jeff Buckely

  • a great band on my favorite show just awesome

  • @why7would7joO what show is this!?!?!?!?!?

  • @11unfortunately Hi, its a wonderfully eclectic music show on the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC2 to be exact, hosted by national treasure, Jools Holland.

  • This is the best versioan I ever listened soft... perfect. I mean, this song could someone make feel in love.

  • @maxthomasodanniel or pure melancholy..

  • @galatsiproduction Or nostalgia for places one has never been

  • i wish i knew what was going on with Beirut :(

this line up was amazing, when i saw them in camden roundhouse it was one of the best gigs of the year,

but then they canceled everything and vanished for a while, and when they came back with a new slimed down line up it just wasn't the same...i saw them live again and all those beautiful songs sounded like cheesy soap opera theme tunes, zach looked/acted like he was on something.

    so sad.

i will not pay to see them again until things change again.

  • @MassaDayLewis

That's like saying, Kobe Bryant should give thanks to his basketball. The ball was already invented, it's what he does with it that matters. Likewise, these instruments were already invented, it's how he pieces them together in a sheet of music that matters. Whoever plays the instruments really doesn't have much say in it if the producer/composer is telling them how they want them to play.

  • that girl has a voice of an angel, people are amazing

  • what a beautiful thing to say. totally random, man....:)

  • and yours also, double. boom

  • Just a question...just saying, his eyes are a bit red..

  • Is it just me or does Zach look like he's on drugs now?

  • he is on acid

  • maybe so, but if zach wasn't in this band, this band would not exist

  • Comment removed

  • i think the same as you do, sometimes i feel like the band don´t like zach

  • sometimes things arnt as they seem

  • no no, don't thumbs down. a friend of mine has met beirut, and says that the way zach treats his band isn't exactly great. i honestly wouldn't have expected him to have been anything like that and who knows if he really is. the band certainly seem to love playing his songs, but who knows what goes on behind the scenes?

  • why?

  • i love them...

    beautiful....

  • It's a trumpet with rotary valves. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

This song is beautiful... it's amazing to see the whole band so into the song.

  • Comment removed

  • if its his instrument u are talking about, apprently it is a (6 valve?cant remember if i heard that right) Flugelhorn

  • What kind of horn is the lead singer playing?

  • it could be a flugle...

  • The guy on 1:27 looks exactly like Bon Iver :)

  • zach has the best band support in the world. they're all so passionate and so happy to be playing his beautiful music and singing his beautiful lyrics.

there is not one person on this earth who can write a better song than zach condon.

    (and he's beautiful X] )

  • 3:07!!! the drummer! fuckin love it!

  • The album is called 'The Flying Club Cup', not 'Cup Club'. Just letting ya know.

    Great song.

  • no one can write like Zach...

but Zach cannot write like anyone else.

we are all unique :) don't put other musicians down.

  • The thing I possibly love the most about this video is that every band member that can (ie. those who haven't got their lips wrapped around brass or are wrestling with violins) is singing along in the chorus, and passionately so. :]

  • Is that asian girl zach's gf?

  • no she isn't

  • *melts at his look on 0:42* sigh :)

  • What kind of Trumpet is Zach Condon playing?!

  • the different thing is a only common trompeta is the disposition of the keys and pistons. very it is used in Eastern Europe. saludos desde Argentina! Aguante Beirut!

  • Flugelhorn

  • It looks like a flugelhorn like bofbeats said, but it has rotary valves rather than piston valves.

  • Beirut songs always seem to make me think of nostalgia and childhood memories

  • superb.

    thank you

  • Maybe jesus has returned to earth with the name zach condon and brang his angels to play his instruments. Lol no but seriously there is no one with this sound. This guy is still basically a kid and he is out there making other artist not even want to pick up an instrument anymore lol. I FUCKIN LOVE IT

  • That implies it's not inspiring :P

  • I disagree.

    Beirut is amazing & inspiring.

If anything, this music only inspires me to pick my instrument more than I ever would, to write better than I ever would.

  • then u realize u can't write or play like him and wonder why u even tried.

  • I realize I can't play or write like Zach, and then I write my own music :)

But he inspires me to write better and better.

  • Well this is true. I will give you props for not giving up. We need new sounds in this country.

  • this is beautiful, the lyrics don't really mean anything but i don't think it really matters

  • I think the lyrics really do mean something. Perhaps he's trying to say that his life didn't quite turn out as he planned, but it's okay because he can still smile at his memories. I don't know, that's just what I think.

  • Yeah. To go along with that I also like the idea he brings up about giving up wearing our sunday smiles(That is referencing the faces people sometimes put on when going to church). It kind of hits on how we pretend like everything is dandy or put on this front like we are okay, when it is not really the case. I may or may not be right, but just some food for thought. :)

  • They are really something else:) Can't stop adoring them- that album is just perfect!

  • Al fin pude conseguir su ultimo disco!!! viva Beirut!!

  • q buena q es esta banda, simplemente porque no te encuentras este tipo de musika en cualquier parte, me tendre q comprar sus discos haber si los puedo conseguir

  • buenisimo

  • "All I want is the best for our lives my dear." What a beautiful phrase.

  • Beirut is my favorite band, the fact that I got five thumbs down for saying he needs to shave in a tongue in cheek fashion makes me question the sanity of hipsters everywhere.

  • lolll

  • his voice mixed with the instruments is heartbreakingly beautiful. i love listening to live version of this song the most, but i do love the beginning of the album version with the "encore, le fois". it kind of reminds me of a merry-go-round at the fair, i'm not sure why.

  • I would murder someone to hangout with these guys.

  • wonderful...

  • no better put

  • his voice is very good, it's got an old soul.

of course it would sound bad with out the amazing instruments behind it, he's a genius, and he's very young too, it's always fun finding amazing bands that you are older than.

  • Zach needs to shave!

  • not a good thing to comment on a video being watched by zach condon lovers...

  • wow, just wow

  • cant get enough of this shit

  • This song would be so good at the climax or the end of a movie. It has a real magical quality to it. Reminds me of Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind for some reason. Anybody agree or am I gone crazy?

  • No, i agree! Anyone else?

  • I agree with you, his voice is amazing one of the best I've ever heard

  • I also agree! Anyone else?

  • thats funny. i thought about that today when i was listening to it. and i think its better live than on the CD. watch the letterman version aswell.

  • I looked for the letterman version again to listen to but I can't find it anymore

  • it was sadly taken down.

too bad. it was their best live performance of this song.

  • I actually have been thinking so hard about making movies, and Beirut was my number one choice for music. I'm going to try photography first and see how it goes.

  • @ImElvis666

trippy balls! i was just thinking of that movie when i clicked the link to this vid, and when i started to read your comment. 2 greatest things on earth, beirut and eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, i suppose youd agree.. =)

  • @ImElvis666 i concur

  • So beautiful it almost hurts. I love this version!

  • what is zach playing? is it a flugel horn?

  • i'm pretty sure it is

  • zach condon has the most beautiful voice in the world

  • Agreed. Condon has an amazing voice.
