  • @Holism, you seem to reject the notion and existence of audism in society altogether. You could have come up with an alternative definition of audism, if you don't reject the validity of this form of racism. You are also incorrect about the origin of the word. It comes from the Latin verb 'audire', not from 'audible', from which English words 'audible', 'auditory', 'audiology' etc are derived.

  • hi barry! well still wait to hear from nad, if bobbie beth or whoever the nad would answer your questions. if they will failure then lets see. anyway, hey olois! i saw your comment under barry's vlog. ofc he is.... (thumb up)

  • @Youknowwhat45 Thank you. Impossible? You might be right but impossible only because there are some people out there that won't reason with valid points we've made. They're just stubborn and because of that it becomes quite impossible. Book? I've been writing this book for a while now... will publish it when I feel it's completed. I'm not there yet... my soul is still writing stuff it wants to tell the world. Hang in there.

  • Very good vlog, more we discussed, more we understand, I agreed that it is kind of stereotype than calling it an oppression. You made many valid points that Audism can cause more problem if it has established in dictionaries, I believe that this word that will cause too much of dividing between Deaf and Hearing, because those Hearing would not wanting to be part of us otherwise they would think we would sue them for an audism. This word wont work at all. I enjoyed your vlog as always. Bro

  • @sailboatfreak65 Thank you! Yes, the more we look into it the more discussion we will have and the better we're going to understand the ramifications behind this effort and dire results, if any. That's what holism is all about, understanding the wholes on everything. It takes time and patience but must be done. Our deaf community is not cheap. You made good points too.

  • Hi. Can you refer me to the link you just mentioned, communicated between you and Bobbie? Thanks!

  • @rachadw More than glad to. Youtube does not allow posting of url addresses in comment boxes so I can't provide that here but you'll find our discourse at deafvideo.tv. Search NAD site and you'll see Bobbie's vlog on audism.

  • We're talking about Deaf people in general. NAD doesn't mention "ALL" in its definition, so it's not a problem. Heariing-minded deaf person or hard of hearing will thank NAD, because they're victim of audism, too. They don't have to be like us as long as they don't oppress us at jobs or educationally abuse us at schools. Just mind their (self-hating deaf) own mind. I didn't know about "unintentionally" part in her letter. Would you show us? Thank you.

  • @Salticid68 One does not have to mention 'all'. It's the reference to 'those who can hear' or 'the ability to hear'. The unintentional part is found in NAD's letter to dictionary companies. You could find it at NAD's official web site. Or visit deafread.com and search 'NAD audism.

  • @theHolism Ah, I see. Maybe NAD meant to say there is no such unintentionally part on oppression, abuses, and such. I don't know. What I know is that NAD didn't refer to "all of those who can hear". "Those who can hear" still doesn't apply to all.

  • @Salticid68 Maybe? Well they ought to clarify this point since it's quite vague. If it's vague to us then it's vague for others as well.

  • 'Audism' to me is really the belief or attitude that being deaf is inferior to, less competent, or less valuable than being hearing. This term refers mainly to hearing people who 'look down' at deaf people because of their inability to hear (and speak in some cases). This has nothing to do with deaf people who can speak or can hear some.

I am not entirely satisfied with the way NAD defines 'audism', however, this will take time to define 'audism' adequately to everyone's satisfaction! IMHO

  • @dmckeenz Point well taken but yet can't ignore the fact that NAD went over the board and rushed themselves into this situation, throwing in four flawed definitions. Too many holes in them and they call it the work of the scholars? Makes me wonder.

  • Thank you for putting subtitle on this video. I really appreciate it, and I am sure others too.

  • @DeafCoffeeGuy Thank you. I was glad to learn how to caption the video. Was not easy though but figured it should be done.

  • @theHolism Yes, I can understand that. But I do think it is worth it! Smile.
