Basically they used the fingerprint on acetate to etch a copy on a circuit board. This gave them actual depth to the ridges that were then translated into the gel prints. You can see how to do circuit board etching here
@mcr89x i agree with you there its just like a massive fuck you to whoever made them locks & made up the stupid rumour of thinking it would never be opened by somebody else
biometric devices check only the image not the grease of the finger, i´m a forensic fingerprint examinator, so i can tell you i don´t trust biometric machines, but the fingerprints forensic identification is the best way to identify a dab guy, i mean dna in the last 20 years only matched 200,000 id in civil and criminal process, and fingerprints identified more than 2million of id match for diferent purposes. dont get confused biometric stuff can be cheated, human id cannot.
That would be because it's not a regular photocopy. To make the gel or latex mold you'd need to emboss it, and that's likely what they used. Not just a regular photocopy.
@filipasantinho The paper only works with the lock. Only the balistic gel work with the scanner. Obviously the lock is way weaker than the USB scanner.

O.o it even failed with a PRINTED fingerprint. Whats happening with our technology now?!
deesww 5 months ago
@deesww was always like that. they dont recognize 3 dimensional objects, they just take photos of the fingerprint and analyse.
photo by photo, a one from a real object or from another photo doesnt matter.
this is prop gonna change with the kinect and other instant 3D scanners

google for "pcb etching" if you want to know what was in the censored scene.
akademiker23 1 year ago 8
It's a bit irritating when they self-censor ("never mix blur with blur" ).
I understand why they do it, but still..
dfoxx007 1 year ago
@dfoxx007 It doesn't matter, they made it work with a photocopied image of the thumb print too.

They did it all wrong! The jagged bits are part of it which help show the difference between two different prints from different people.
