don`t ever back down but don`t be too disrespectfull either, most of the stuff if you can brush it off and keep your head down and just work, they`ll see you as a guy whos not there to fuck around and BS and they`ll get the point that they should be working too.this also gets major points with the boss... and ask the older guys opinion on how the`d do something.the old guys think they know everything and love to teach,it`ll bring their guard down.good luck
when i get my combination welding certificate ill be 20 years old...im 19 now, not really sure if a welding company would want a youngster working there, they might prefer a mature worker for the look of the company
.when you go in for an interview wear a shirt and tie...be professional by acting like a professional, and speaking like a professional.when you`re in a shop environment and you`re young and new the older guys will give you a ton shit.
maybe they`re finally phasing stick welding out ,it is my opinion that it is a bit of an archaic method since the introduction of Flux core and (FCAW) is so much faster than "stick"
Welding is one thing(joning metal),Fabrication,is the actual figureing, layout, cutting, measureing, jigging, and building the desired piece.Heat distorts the metal and when it cools the steel molecules contract.turning a nice part to junk with warpage. when building a square like the vid, length and width are the same as well a it`s diagonal measurements.(this is what checked), it helps to have temporary braceing or tack piece to a table.I try to get within a 1/32"
cool man, welding is a lot of fun and really not difficult once you get the hang of it..however it is hard on the body, can`t stress enough ,use a respirator at all times ,and ear plugs when grinding.
the process used in the video is MIG wire feed (Metal nert Gas) this is great for alot of steel applications 1/4" and under .for structural you`d be useing either stick arc or flux core arc welding.
shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), which also known as "stick welding"/or ARC welding. An electric current is used (DC or AC)to strike an arc between the base material and a consumable electrode rod or 'stick'. The electrode rod is made of a material that is compatible with the base material being welded and is covered with a flux that protects the weld area from oxidation and contamination by producing CO2 gas during the welding process.(most commonly used is a 7018 rod)
