The stick is skinny and could easily fit through the face shield bars, being swung at that angle. If you look at the overhead angle you can see how it would dig in. Even if only a tiny piece caught his face, it's still moving darn fast.
Not only that, but the stick is moving way faster than the puck is. If you think about it, the stick has to accelerate the puck from 0 to 90mph (or whatever)...in order for that to be done, the stick has to be moving faster than 90mph, presumably MUCH faster. It's the same science behind a baseball bat...If you have a lighter bat, you can swing it faster, and hit the ball further (corked bat). Swinging a hockey stick at full tilt, like was done, is moving way faster than a puck.
it hit the side of the helment, i'm a goalie and theres not much protection on the side of it. its basically having a sheet of hard plastic warped on your arm and then the stick smacks your arm. it'll break and get cut open

If you think about it, the stick has to accelerate the puck from 0 to 90mph (or whatever)...in order for that to be done, the stick has to be moving faster than 90mph, presumably MUCH faster. It's the same science behind a baseball bat...If you have a lighter bat, you can swing it faster, and hit the ball further (corked bat). Swinging a hockey stick at full tilt, like was done, is moving way faster than a puck.

it hit the side of the helment, i'm a goalie and theres not much protection on the side of it. its basically having a sheet of hard plastic warped on your arm and then the stick smacks your arm. it'll break and get cut open

Obviously intentional, no. Incredibly stupid, very much so. Ballard just got frustrated, and did something that alot of players do, smack the post. I've seen that quite a bit. Ballard just had really bad aim. Just skating off was classless though. I really dont see how this was intentional, Vokoun is a major reason why they are even competitive, taking him out on purpose makes no sense.
