  • Can some people tell me how to play lean on me please!

  • y would u want to pash ur clarinet

  • @elfearsrbig you did

  • Jesus christ your tone sounds like a child trying to play the clarinet.

  • Once again alto sax is better than the gay clarinet.

  • this is a very nice video. i think it's very helpful in learning correct articulation.

  • i wanna congratulate her she is just as bad as Mitch Kaplan

  • I don't know why people said bad things about her, I think they might be a better player but surely not a good teacher.A teacher have to teach the basic things and send the message correctly to the student. And then it's depend on the students talent or ability would the lessons developed or not.And a teacher has to be a humble person and surely not a snob, because they always realized that so many youth who has great talent and ability to be developed with a little help, even just a little help.

  • if i pikd up a clarinet for the first time i wud still sound betta than that!

  • So... she is a teacher?

  • damn dude she sounds rough

  • fukin birch i wanna see u do it not the werds

  • She is a music teacher. Took her years to find a job. Can you guess why!!!!!!! I heard her play in some community groups in SE PA. How she sits first chair is beyond me!!!!!!! She tuned the woodwinds with the first note - then tuned the brass with a flatter note. UNBELIEVABLE. AS YOU NOTICED IN THIS VIDEO SHE CAN"T HOLD A NOTE WITHOUT CHANGING THE PITCH.

  • ah when i try to play, i can but after two measures my mouth goes numb and starts to go open and let air out and im not sure how to stop it! please help me! i am a flute player but i have decided to take up clairnet just to know it for fun :) sooo yeah i really would like help!

  • I'm sorry to say this but you are wrong. Slurring was described ok but when you described It with tounging it's not. Let's get this straight, tounging does not mean stopping the air flow. Tounging usually means you get a better sound than just blowing into your clarinet. So you can tounge while slurring at the same time (well for the first note at least.) Let's say you slur g f e. You could tounge g while sluring to f and e

  • extremly bad sound...

  • lol shes teaching wrong.

you dont stop the air flow by closing off the air between the reed and the mouthpiece, you just stop the vibration of the reed.

  • She explains this correctly, but she has horrible tone. And why is her arm up on the table?

  • she is explaining everything right you guys are just misunderstanding it. when you tonge you have to keep blowing fast cold air with lots of support, so that way the tonge just dances of the reed. Think of the 2nd D in dodo it is softer than the first, that is the tonging that you need, just like saing dododododododododo.

  • ...wow.. ppl fail.... articulation is not stopping the air flow. It stops the vibration of the reed and yes she is partly wrong with slurring but at least read basic music theory. Try stopping your air flow( sorta like puffing ) while reading 16th notes. been playing clarinet for 5 years now and finally got a Clarinet Method book written by Benny Goodman.

  • I thought when slurring, you at least have to articulate the first note in the slur.

  • You have no idea...

WRONG wrong WRONG wrong, wrong WRONG wrong WRONG

  • thats not tonguing thats completly stoping the air...

  • chocotastic u are right this is no teacher...she dont knows anything...thats not the propper way to do the articulation ( Tonguing ) guys...dont bother watching her...she dont knows how to play the clarinet propper...then alone 2 teach us =))

  • Largely misguiding. It's better to think of tonguing as an interruption of the airflow by laying the tongue on the reed. Faster tonguing comes from a more adept execution of this basic principle and very fast tonguing may be quite similar to the process she is trying to explain. But it's a process. The important thing is to have a strong supply of air behind the tonguing the whole time.

  • Take it from someone who actually knows how to play the clarinet, do NOT watch these videos if you want to be a successful/good clarinet player. Take the time and effort to find a quality teacher and sulk to the level of watching YouTube videos for instruction.

  • its the second year of me playing the clarinet and im only 10 so she helped me alot

  • guys a better way of learning tongue this is way easier then wat shes talking about say ta tatatatatata and it will be a lot easier to learn : )

  • is she a teacher? may God have mercy on her students...

if she has that crapy sound and that crapy articulations how can her studens be good clarinet players?

  • i cant figure out if im going to play the clarinet or the piccolo....can someone help? its for tomorrow when i start school, im in band and have no idea what i want to play..

  • you should play both.. I have played the clarinet for 24 years all my life and its a great instrument. Technical yes, difficult yes, but its a love you must have

  • pick clarinet it is alot more fun

  • umm not really... i play calarinet and its not buzzy!!! if ur bad thats the only time it sounds badd sooo re-think ur situation thurr!!

  • that lady needs to get her arm off the freaking table! i can't get over it! so lazy! poor musicanship and very bad example!

and she's teaching too fast with the tonguing. a beginner clarinet player isn't going to be playing 16th notes that quickly unless if they're a flippin prodigy. and she's no prodigy.

  • Hm. I've been "slurring".

  • I have been playing the clarinet for almost 4 year's now and I really can't tongue very well but maybe this will help!!

  • say tatatatata is what my band director says. it works for sax and clarinet.

  • yeah mine too, and dadadada for slurring

  • Actually I agree wit joethemusician and beelzebob777 - its actually kinda bad...

  • i think this will help me!! im gonna play the CLARINET!!!

  • me parece un insulto¡

  • Ohmahgah her tone! She needs to work on that!

  • ok i agree lady you don't no how to play the clarinet i mean i have been playing for to years and u have probley been playing for ur whole life and u suck

  • um lady i strted playing the clarinet like um 2 months ago and i think that your not sposed to put your arm on the table btw i master kumbayah :D

  • lol i think ur right i play clarinet and she doesnt see us with our arm on the table

  • Oh come on....if you tongue like this your reed will die

  • Ook... Tonguing... As in real tonguing... i have played 5 years... i can tongue 15 times faster and she sounds so terrible... Shes raping the perfectly good wooden clarinet!! :O

  • I am a nice person...honestly...but I can not STAND this video. Please find an actual clarinet player to demonstrate because this teacher sounds horrible. I can find about 10 videos of people under the age of 10 who sound so much better. This is a travesty that young students will come to this page to learn from someone that sounds horrid. This is not a professional musician!!! Please find a real teacher...or for heaven's sake make her practice first!!!!

  • i do the toung crap and nothing man teach something useful

  • Tonguing is not the same as articulating. She is so negative; not very helpful at all.

  • I decided to give you free lesson before you discourage even more pupils.

  • dickweed

  • Can Someone help me tongue this Doen't help me

  • this video wont help anyone do anything but quit clarinet. You do not dart forward with your tongue as she describes but rather use it the way you would "flick" a paper football. The sound should not be slappy like this "teacher" demonstrates.

  • cool that is nice i have a clarinet

i like it so thank you for the advice!

  • i can't do it !!! i broke my clairnet 600 dollars i havn't told me paretsn yet

  • what part did u break?

  • he broke the reed LOL

  • Read your first reply.

  • When I tongue my notes, I touch my tongue to the roof of my mouth, not the tip of my reed. Is that bad? It works well, but makes nose whenever I tongue a note.

  • Yup, you should always touch the reed to stop the vibration, not the roof of your mouth as the reed might not completely stop vibrating, thus the wierd sound you get when you tongue. (: I hope that helps!

  • I agree with you and the two different ideas are different. Beginners shouldn't be taught the wrong thing.

  • Ok...could you grow up a little please? No need to freak out about it.

  • Man, there's a reason this thing is free...

  • LOL

  • you're still wrong.

been playing clarinet for more than 10 years; so the answer to your question is no.

    Mark 1:14-15.

  • her fingers are used as a demonstration because she said you cannot see inside her mouth. what you said, is actually the same concept she expressed in the video, only she used different words.

she said "each time you touch it..." which means, "each time you touch it [the reed with your tongue]." it's the same thing, darlin.

    Mark 1:14-15.

  • EXACTLY, dall...hit the nail on the head. A clarinet makes beautiful, rich sound by the vibrations it makes. By resting your arm on the table, you transfer the vibrations on the table and it results in a more nasely sound.

  • have you ever seen a real clarinetist resting his/her arm on a table while performing? NEVER!

what i most hate from this lady is her left arm resting on the table in every video.

this person and the bold guy of expert village are a disgrace for the clarinetists.

  • I like her quick tongue motion, but she might want to the amount of tongue moving. Just the tip, very little. For beginners I have always been under the school of learning a legato style first (smooth and connected). Then addin on staccato, marcato, ect.. If you learn shorter articulations at first,a beginning class tends to have to breath between every note. I am currently observing a middle school class in the Oklahoma City area that is an absolute mess because of this.

  • Oh Gosh. She gets outta breath EASILY!!!

  • She's over-blowing...like a maniac!

  • You're absolutely right. It sounds like a goose with a throat infection.

  • There's a girl in my band who over-blows EVERY preformance. Its so annoying.

  • I hate that. My band director does that when he does demonstrations. We all cringe when he picks up a clarinet. But he was a trombone player, so he has an excuse.

  • and she didnt even know how to put the clarinet together on the first day and yet she got the chair infont of me just because she decided to sit there.

  • you fucking sukc!I play gypsie music and i am från greece I play from saleas vasilis not this shit...Listned to my music yur busted

  • she is right about using the tip of the tounghe tho what really makes it easier is not only using the tip of your tongue on the reed but also at the same time thinking of a "tea" or "Tah" syllable, believe me it actally helps, though, in certain situations, different syllables are used, my teacher taught me this, its great!

  • DUDE WHAT THE FUCK! THIS SUCKED SO BAD!

  • she actually have students under her. oh gosh

  • u'll get better..lol

  • u sound like a beginner

  • whoa that sucks. it doesn't even sound like she's tounging them properly! it sounds raspy and not very sharp and crisp..

  • she sucks. you people should check out how to play the alto saxophone videos. she's even worse! you probably didn't think it was possible!

  • I couldn't agree more with expertclarinetist. this woman is a disgrace to the clarinet teaching profession. tonguing tutorials from a teacher should be impressive, including double tonguing etc, not beginner, thudding, poor tonguing.

  • no duh!!tounging is not hard at all!! i learned it my 2nd day of band!

  • this lesson seriously sucks..it doesnt tell you anything about tounging

  • i learned how to tounge now my damn teacher wont mess with me

  • I've been playing Clarinet 31yrs. Video was to illustrate technique=my grade is poor. She should be ashamed presenting tutorial as shown. 1st, as an educated person, I believe her ExpertVillage videos would be taken more seriously if shot in a music studio/plain room, not kitchen; a professional musician shouldn't put elbows on table=use proper posture, etc. I could go on, but will stop there. Terrible example to aspiring/existing clarinetists=very unprofessional.

  • I've been teaching for 33 years and this is not the way to do it! Just put the mpc in your mouth and "say" 2! Tongueing that close to the tip makes an ugly tut tut tut sound.

  • Saying 2 is OK. But what if you don't speak English. If Italian should I say DUO or if Greek what should I say......?

  • That's funny! TU, or TOO

  • will you help me =)

  • Tonguing is just like saying "Too" into your clarinet. Of course there are different other tonguings to suit different music, but this is just the basic way you can begin with.

Imagine your hand is your tongue, and imagine a hot kettle is the reed. When you touch the kettle, you have an immediate reaction to pull back your hand before it gets burnt. Same concept as how you tongue on the clarinet.

    Hope this helps! (:

  • play low f low g low a low bflat and c

  • her clarinet is a piece of shit.

  • i play clarinet, and this is some what a good lession but she has a great sound

  • she sounds like a train wreck....

  • anyone learning the clarinet should ignore everything this stupid woman is saying

  • ...except that what stops the sound isn't the reed "closing off against the mouthpiece." It's just that when you touch the reed you stop it from vibrating.

  • thanx

  • That snake thing was very helpful!

  • mmmm.... best tonguing is made on air crossing reed!

  • Muy util,gracias...
