I have a White's MXT, and you generally set the threshold so that there's a constant slight hum. That way you can hear a very light signal of a deep object. If you have no threshold, you may miss those items because their signal may be cancelled out along with the steady threshold. Not sure if it's the same premise with the Gold Bug, but probably so.
Hi i was just wondering cus yous guys seem to be sort of experts. There is a pile of gold that was put underground years ago as in 1800's. I have a rough idea where it is but i know it will be deep as in anywhere up to 20'. Its sort of damp soil in a feild.
I have a gold bug. You did an excellent job explaining. Every time you turn it off and on this procedure needs to be done

There are so many different models yet the same name as Gold Bug metal detectors. Why? Is there a big difference between them?
