I remember grandma and my father singing with this music when I was a child. My father is still with us, and I know my grandmother sings with them even now.
Does anyone remember the original (or one of the originals) recording of this song? My dad used ot have it on a record. It was Howard and Vestal singing, but a bit more uptempo than this, and they had piano and a horn section. It's Awesome! I wish someone would put that recording on youtube.
What a special video. Those wonderful old saints after all the years of their lives, could still sing like that and you can tell they meant it. They are there now, along with the piano player Anthony Burger. What a legacy they left for us in their music.
I so miss the Goodmans. And, I miss Anthony on the piano! The expressions of the spirit on his face when he plays was such a Godsend! But, someday, when I go home, I will be able to hear them again and see him again sitting at that piano in the sky!
the worse thing is after hearing and watching the Goodmans sing when I hear somone else sing there songs I can't help but compare them and of course the Goodman's does a better job for me
i will missed my role models the goodmanss love their show and music..their videos and songs touch our hearts..we will miss your loving voices the goodmans..
when i was younger, i used to wonder why the saints used to sing so much in church about going to heaven... i though gosh, that's kinda morbid that they always sing songs about dying and stuff... but the longer i live, i think i understand and hearing the goodmans sing makes me want to join them in heaven to sing around the throne of God :)
@songbird356 I don't know how old you are but I feel exactly the same. The older you get the more you long for Jesus to come back and take us with Him!
@WilfCarterFan But our lost is heaven's gain, we just have to make sure that we make it over yonder so we can sing with her and all of the saints who have joined that heavenly choir!
Hoover I just keep loving all the videos you post. everytime i look to see who posted it, it's hoover! thank you so much! i LOVE love love this song. It's another one i always put on repeat on my cd. thanks! smiles!
Such a wonderful song and talent, we've lost so many Greats in the past few years, they live on though these video's and our hearts, thank you for sharing them
Southern gospel music will never see the likes of Howard and Vestal Goodman again. I've been to hear them countless times in concert, especially when the family was all together with Sam and Rusty. What a quartet! Howard and Vestal were such humble, down-to-earth people, who loved the Lord with all their might. They truly loved and cared about people from all walks of life. They were GENUINE - the REAL DEAL! I can't wait to hear them sing again in Heaven someday! MoJoPiano
Howard may have had trouble getting up and to that point on the stage; but once that music starts he aint feeling any pain; just watch him; hes got that cain up in the air at one point and hes walking around like its nothing towards the end. Praise the lord; he is truly in the lords spirit.
My family and I got to see them on their last tour...they took requests at the end and played almost all of the songs, many of which were quite obscure. Meeting Johnny after the show was an added bonus!
It was a shock to me to learn that they had passed. I didn't find out till around the summer time of 2007. But I did not know that the son died too! When did he die and what happend to him if you happen to know?
Well I thought the younger guy that sung with them was their son because he kinda looked like them to me. I think it was Rusty? Isn't he the younger one that sung with them all the time? I assumed he was their son.
In this video the younger fellow is Johnny Minick and not related to the Goodmans. Rusty and Sam Goodman performed with their brother Howard "Happy" Goodman until the 1980s. Rusty and Sam died in 1990 and 1991, Howard died in 2002, and Vestal died in 2003. Howard and Vestal's son Rick played drums with the family in the 1970s.
The King and Queen + Johnny = The very best of southern gospel music! It doesn't come any better than this. And the best part is, they lived what they sang about. They are sorely missed...
WOW! Wonderful singing by Howard and Vestal Goodman! (Johnny Minick too!) There are SO many folks on stage that I truly miss, like Anthony, he played and sang with passion, I'm so glad that these recordings/pictures have been preserved! Thanks Hoover4000 for posting! YOU post and show us what we really want to hear! GOD bless YOU!!!!! Thanks again! PTL!
I watched a joyful Anthony as he played the piano during this song. That young man is playing in Heaven now. Howard, Vestal, Jake, Rex and so many other great ones gone from us.
I spotted the wonderful Donnie Sumner, nephew of J.D., in this crowd. What a testimony h
I love Vestal! I miss her deeply. She holds a spot in my heart forever. Her passing affected me greatly. I love this song because it is true. And for Howard and Vestal its reality. I always pray that when I die, God grants me my life-long wish to stroll over heaven with Vestal some Glad day!
Looking at the faces radiating the love of God, I was suddenly reminded that many of them are already home.
Howard and Vestal Goodman, Anthony Burger, Rex Nelon, Jake Hess and of course, John Daniel Sumner..What wonderful sounds will greet us when we enter Heaven's gates.
The Goodman's were one of my favorite groups. They sing real "Southern Gospel" songs. What a heritage they left, their songs will be played and listened to for a very long time!
This was awesome. Howard was feeling this song. I almost thought he was going to throw that cane down......Loved it.
