Disturbing to watch for me because I've experienced anaphylactic shock (though not from wasp venom) and it is not pleasant; it can and likely will kill you without prompt medical attention, and its sometimes lethal anyway. If you're not sure whether or not you're allergic to bees or wasps, take precautions around them as if you were allergic--don't find out the hard way like this guy did.
we have a bunch of paper wasps around the area and they are great I have bumped nests and never been stung...but those damn ground dwelling piece of crap yellowjackets are a whole different story. Was doing yardwork yesterday and got stung a bunch of times by the yellowjackets it hurts...and I am pretty sure they bite as well. Me no likey.
I'm surprised he's wearing a shirt like that. My allergist told me not to wear certain types of clothes-bright or flashy colors or anything w/ flowers on it-and even to avoid wearing perfume, which I'm allergic to anyway.
Basically he wanted me to avoid things that might attract them to me.
I guess fear attracts them, b/c they're always coming around me even after I've followed all those directions.
But I'm terrified of getting stung, b/c the allergy is getting worse.
Yellow Jackets are very aggressive and typically build their nests underground. They become agitated when disturbed by mostly vibrations like lawnmowers or yard equipment and they will defend their nest. They typically swarm and have the ability to repeatedly sting over and over again. Google "Yellow Jackets" to learn more.
dude no yellow jackets make nests undergound like in holes or bushes i was mowing grass and i got into a swarm of them but they dont hurt kinda of like of pinch
bad baddddd memorys for me at summer camp one year i was going up the side of a mountain nothing big realy just a small hill and i tripped and slid i laughed then i realised... oh shit im getting stung... i hit trees running and they were still on me.... *shivers*

Yellow Jackets nasty little suckers, They can sting multiple times unlike bees which only sting once then die. Usually they don't swam like that, that guy is lucky as hell.
As I stated on another video, I let the large yellow jackets nest in my outside squat racks. I'm into bee's, get stung all the time. These ground Yellow Jackets are smaller, yet since Ive been stung by them(You see holes in the ground, trying to get a response-yes and get it before you notice many clinging to the hairs your leg. I've always had a terrible fear of stinging insects... all started with a wasp that stung me when I tried to pick it up at the age of 1. Considering that I also got stung on the eyebrow when I was 8, my fear certainly didn't get any better. I'm very grateful that I don't have any allergies!
I was just watching Dead Rising cut scenes to Bees and Wasps XD. Anways what a luck finding a ambulance truck near by. Nice to have her husband still alive. PS youtuve is funny pulling you from one topic to another XD
@glamourousbarbiedoll You probably do. "Yellow jacket" is a North American term that refers to several species of wasps in the genera Vespula and Dolichovespula. They are usually smaller wasps with yellow and black stripes. I don't think they are called yellow jackets on other continents, though. The Norweigan Wasp is a type of yellow jacket.
@allgood2000 Yellow Jackets are docile during the summer months, but in the fall they become highly aggressive. They usually are aggressive if you provoke them. The only thing is they are considered "pests" in the wasp family because they are aggressive and will defend their nest to the bitter end.. but other wasps aren't aggressive like yellow jackets since they eat insects that annoy us human beings :)

I've heard you can be ok getting stung by a bee or wasp today, and 6 months down the road get stung and go into shock because you're allergic. Makes sense that allergies would be that way though, I used to be allergic to eggs when I was a kid and liked them so much I ate them anyways, boiled eggs on Easter I would eat no matter what, I eventually got rid of my allergy, now I eat eggs at every breakfast without any reaction
i got stung by a bee in a park and i turned pale and felt like i couldnt breathe...my friend wanted to take me to the hospital...instead i jus relaxed and then it went away...it was only one bee...and the stinger fell out....it burned too.....had it been more than one then i prolly woulda been knocked out.......
@Shydragon72 They may have just placed it there in the re-enactment so that the viewers could see what it was. It may have been underground in the actual incident.
@Shydragon72 they don't really think much, their whole purpose for existence is to make honey if their bees or hunt if they are wasps, other than that all they know is attack or guard the entrance from intruders.
Yellow Jackets are very aggresive wasps that will attack at the slighest provocation. Last summer while cutting my grass I got attacked by a nest of yellow jackets. Even though I was not close to the nest, they decided they did not like the noise so they attacked me. Stung me about 10 times.

IDK why this lady chides herself for not realizing what was going on with her husband. If she didn't recognize the classic symptom of his tongue swelling to be a severe allergic response, she wouldn't be expected to know what's happening. People need to stop saying she didn't care.
She didn't know. That's different from not caring.
Swelling tongue with numbness, a rapidly spreading rash, tightness in the chest. These symptoms are a high-priority trauma that demands prompt attention at ER.
I dont know for some reason I have a real problem with that power trip R.N. The medics who were on scene first not in the street lady..but just out on the sidewalk ajacent to the E.r.were already taking appropriate action (ALS interventions etc ) the RN walks out and says "I" want him in off the street ! Later she says when "I" transported to ICU "I" felt ...etc..You notice in the end the credit went to the medics...not Miss power hungry know it all R.N. It's not "I" lady..its a team effort !
I'm a paramedic and see RNs every day. Once we even had a situation where a patient told the ER nurse how happy she (the patient) was that paramedics took such great care of her on the way to the hospital.
To which the nurse promptly replied: "Well now you're with a nurse. That's better than a Paramedic."
To which my partner looked me and said (in his best Beverly Hillbillies accent): "That's right. 'Cause we don't know nothin' 'bout no health care."
She was straight rude you are just as important to health care as they are. I bet you know more than her LOL... you actually help get then to the hospital. Grrr..... I appreciate paramedics.
I hate a damn yellow jacket. Got into a nest about 3 years ago. Got stung about 20 times before I got away. I'm not allergic but it still was no fun :(
wow. the scary thing is my father got stung by a swarm of yellow jackets yetserday. he was mowing the lawn and mustve ran over a nest on the ground. he claims he got stung at least 6 times. we ran around from the back into the front yard and into the house. he brought some in the house with him. Then he started turning red and he looked dizzy/drunk. he collapsed and passed out. he kept losing and regaining consciousness. my mother was hysterical. we called 911 together about 4 times total
I got stung twice by the same wasp and my throat closed completely. Even the intubation tube didn't work, and they had to put a needle into my neck-attached to a bag that they used to breathe for me.
My throat was swollen for a week after aggressive treatment, including continued Prednisone tablets.
Two damn stings almost killed me. I don't think I would have survived this scenario.
i was attacked by a swarm of yellow jackets with my friends and i got stung on my head around seven times............ WHAT DID I DO!?! NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!! i had a bad headache that day. it hurt so bad. :(
you'd think that if he had been stung that many times he would just go to the hospital anyways, especially if he does not know if he is allergic to them.
Family and species are two different things. Yellow jackets and hornets are in the same family (Vespidae), but they are in different genera, and therefore not the same species. Hornets are the genus Vespa, and yellow jackets are the genera Vespula and Dolichovespula.
So yellow jackets can sting repeatedly, unlike bees, right? How can they keep stinging without their stingers coming out? They sting at suh hih speeds, how are their stingers not ripped out? like a bee's is?
Honeybees have large barbs on their stingers, which make them unable to remove their stinger from the skin. Wasps have small barbs on their stingers, so they are usually able to pull their stingers out without getting stuck.
A lot of wasps that build paper nests actually build aerial nests. Most yellow jackets build their nests in dark places, so they use rodent holes (the yellow jackets don't dig the holes themselves), bushes, attics, crawl spaces, etc. I don't know as much about honeybees.
because wasps HATE being disturbed. But bees don't hate it as much , obviosly if you did disturb bees they'd still sting you but once they've stung you they go away but wasps chase you and chase you
I have got stung by a hive of bees because I climbed a tree full of them. I received over 30 stings and I was okay, I loved peeling the stingers out though, it was fun. I was more fearful than anything, so much that all pain was blocked out. I did not even go to the doctors because my mother was a nurse.
It's supposed to build an immunity to the allergen by allowing a small amount of it to stimulate the immune system into fighting the allergic reaction.

The woman's granddaughter was stung by a bee and, when we arrived, the grandmother was using spells to make the girl's sting better.
She didn't understand that epinephrine was the only thing going to help.

To which the nurse promptly replied: "Well now you're with a nurse. That's better than a Paramedic."
To which my partner looked me and said (in his best Beverly Hillbillies accent): "That's right. 'Cause we don't know nothin' 'bout no health care."
The nurse scowled at him but said nothing.

She was straight rude you are just as important to health care as they are. I bet you know more than her LOL... you actually help get then to the hospital. Grrr..... I appreciate paramedics.

because it took the EMTs 10+ minutes to arrive. thank God they did what they did and then got him to the hospital. Thank God for that.

wow. the scary thing is my father got stung by a swarm of yellow jackets yetserday. he was mowing the lawn and mustve ran over a nest on the ground. he claims he got stung at least 6 times. we ran around from the back into the front yard and into the house. he brought some in the house with him. Then he started turning red and he looked dizzy/drunk. he collapsed and passed out. he kept losing and regaining consciousness. my mother was hysterical. we called 911 together about 4 times total

i got lucky a few days ago. i accidentally pissed off what i think was a wasp nest. they only got me once...behind the ear.

Five or six wasps!
I don't think I would have survived this scenario.

you'd think that if he had been stung that many times he would just go to the hospital anyways, especially if he does not know if he is allergic to them.

YellowJackets = HORNETS = The BIGGEST & MOST DEADLIEST species of WASPS, PERIOD!
nattytorrezao 2 years ago 17
Yellow jackets are not the same as hornets.
allgood2000 2 years ago
SHUT UP YOU DUMBASS, they're all part of the same family/species!
nattytorrezao 2 years ago
Family and species are two different things. Yellow jackets and hornets are in the same family (Vespidae), but they are in different genera, and therefore not the same species. Hornets are the genus Vespa, and yellow jackets are the genera Vespula and Dolichovespula.
allgood2000 2 years ago
So yellow jackets can sting repeatedly, unlike bees, right? How can they keep stinging without their stingers coming out? They sting at suh hih speeds, how are their stingers not ripped out? like a bee's is?
Marilyn48910 2 years ago
Honeybees have large barbs on their stingers, which make them unable to remove their stinger from the skin. Wasps have small barbs on their stingers, so they are usually able to pull their stingers out without getting stuck.
allgood2000 2 years ago
I have a question. Why do wasp make their nests underground, but honeybees keep theirs in second story window eaves?
vickiormindyb 2 years ago
A lot of wasps that build paper nests actually build aerial nests. Most yellow jackets build their nests in dark places, so they use rodent holes (the yellow jackets don't dig the holes themselves), bushes, attics, crawl spaces, etc. I don't know as much about honeybees.
allgood2000 2 years ago
I found out that you're afraid to mow the yard due to yellow jackets, wasps, and bees building nests.
ZMommaL56 2 years ago
because wasps HATE being disturbed. But bees don't hate it as much , obviosly if you did disturb bees they'd still sting you but once they've stung you they go away but wasps chase you and chase you
weedave1997 2 years ago
all hornets are wasps, but not all wasps are hornets. ie: bald faced hornet is a wasp. all hymenoptera

I have got stung by a hive of bees because I climbed a tree full of them. I received over 30 stings and I was okay, I loved peeling the stingers out though, it was fun. I was more fearful than anything, so much that all pain was blocked out. I did not even go to the doctors because my mother was a nurse.

I'm allergic to all types of bees except a sweat bee, tho I'm not sure that's in the bee family.
I've been stung by a honey bee, a wasp and a yellow jacket-all at different times of course.
Each time, I had a worse reaction than the previous time. Then I got stung by the same wasp twice and went into shock.
I've carried an Epi-pen since then.
The ER Nurse trips me out. Concerned about personal discomfort when someone's in Anaphylaxis. lol

Why does he have to have a Series of Shots?
GarfieldVsSnoopy 2 years ago
It's supposed to build an immunity to the allergen by allowing a small amount of it to stimulate the immune system into fighting the allergic reaction.
