I am actually thrilled!! Never heard this before, found it by accident. I love Pat Benatar, and Kate bush too, this is a fantastic combination of both an epic artist and an amazing song!
I think Wuthering Heights, (Kate Bush's verson of course), should be added to the list of songs to leave alone. The list with songs like Stairway to Heaven.....Hotel California........November Rain...
Unbelievable. I love the guitar solo especially. Rock at it's finest. No one can beat Kate at her own songs, but Benatar really put it into a different genre. Wow, I love it.
I think Pat does some realy good things with this song, but I am realy dissapointed about the guitar solo. In Kate Bush's version it's 10 times better.
Pat Benatar's version on Crimes of Passion doesn't try to imitate Kate...she makes it her own, but I don't think Kate's definitive version will be surpassed anytime soon in terms of both its delicacy and obsessive qualities.
Ok Look they both kicked butt on this one...not sure what the fuss is about but Kate Bush and Pat Benatar are both exquisite singers and both formerly trained as well and they both were amazingly suited for this song. Love em both and miss them both.
I love Kate Bush. I love Pat Benatar. I grew up in a world with both of them, and I have immense respect for both. I see no reason whatsoever to rag on one of the greats for covering a tune from another great. Maybe because I'm - shock! A grownup now.
As a general comment to the posters on this thread: It's been a pleasure for me to read the passionate and, for the most part, respectful, insightful and interesting, comments on this post. I was an early fan of Kate when most people I knew had never heard of her or, if they had, weren't a fan. You have to admit; she is a unique talent. It's good to know that there are so many people who to this day who still love this music. I think it's timeless. Please keep listening and commenting.
Go to the video on the right the 2005 live version Pat performs. My friend Danny was lucky to have this footage because out of all the PB concerts I've attended I never got to hear her perform it live. At age 52 her voice is just deeper and sounds so much more raw and she still hits that "Cathyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" note, lol!
I love Kate but seriously people, Pat's voice is so much warmer and easier to listen to. This version is much better than the original. 2:26 to 2:35 "You know it's me, Cathy," Come on people, that is perfect pitch and perfect emotion for this song. Kate wrote the song; it wouldn't exist without her. That is irreplaceable. Still, Pat's vocal talent on the song is superior.
@69PDawg Sorry Bro, but that's exactly why Kate's original is superior. Kate's edgier delivery reflects the songs story better than Pat's more relaxed delivery. Also the original piano accompaniment is much better than this soft rock version. Sorry Pat, Kate wins on both fronts...
@JoolsyB Fair enough; that's your opinion and I definitely get your point. Still, as much as I love Kate, her version is a bit difficult for me to listen to. What you call edgy, I call harsh. That's just me though. I know that there are people that would agree with me but likely many more that would agree with you. We can debate it but, in the end, it comes down to personal taste. Thanks for the reply and thanks for not flaming me as so many people on You Tube tend to do.
@69PDawg - What an awesomely intelligent and polite way to disagree ;) You have my respect sir and I agree totally, of course everyone is entitled to their opinion.
@69PDawg the pitch might be perfect, but the emotion and the edge of insanity Kate was portraying in the Kathy character is completely lost. Kate is not just a singer but a storyteller.
I heard the cover before I ever heard the original. I loved the cover, but after I heard Kate sing this...........WOW.....still a good cover, but it doesn't touch Kate.
I don't know why people are trying to compare Kate and Pat. They're very different songs, different styles and they're both good. Kate's is an amazing song and Pat's is a great cover.
Everyone in High School was always asking WHO IS BETTER PAT or STEVIE it was always a PAT BENATAR person STILL AM !!!!!!!!!!LOVE YA PAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@sinfulvampyra Good observation. If an artist is going to actually record another artist's song and not just play it in concert for fun and as a tribute, they should be recording that song as a reinterpretation of the original. If you rerecord the original as a note for note copy, what's the point? In this instance, Pat's version is not significantly different from Kate's but it is different enough for me that they seem distinct.
...oh, yeah, one more thing, she's does it an octave lower, but she still doesn't hit the low note Kate does in the word "Wuthering"...she actually changes the melody at a pivotal point, and it sticks out like a sore thumb...
...also, Neil Giraldo throws a too long and tasteless guitar solo in where there shouldn't be one, between the bridge and the last verse, but doesn't even play during the fade out, where it needs it...what's the deal there, did they think it would be more commercially viable with that arrangement? I like Pat Benatar, I even uploaded a segment from "Metropolis" that showcases her beautiful voice, but I don't think Kate's version should be fucked with so much, sorry...
Pat Benatar blew me away the first time I heard this. One of the best songs sung by one of the best singers. It hurts my ears to hear Kate Bush do this song.
@048LIB REALLY???Are you fucking KIDDING ME??? That's just WRONG on so many levels...get your ears checked, or maybe it's that thing in between them...
I love Pat Benetar's voice, but this is so badly BUTCHERED, it's ridiculous...if Kate Bush had sung the original with as little feeling as this it never would have been a huge hit, and ultimately launched her career...the guitar playing is bad, too, but the ultimate example of bad taste is the "You know it's me, Cathy" it's horrible...I wonder if Kate hates it...
@cathoderoy I would like to say I am an avid Kate Bush fan I adore her, Wuthering Heights is also one of my all time faves- I have never heard Pat Benatar before and have no idea what shes normally like. However Cathoderoy I think you have totally overeacted this is not a bad cover at all and it is passionate can you not hear? Ok its not Kate- but no one is ever gonna be Kate- I think its a shame most Kate fans are so close minded.

Sorry, I like Pat Benatar but just can't take to this version, perhaps because Kate Bush just is so brilliant, no one can come close.
Pat needs to stick to her own songs where she reigns.

It falls flat in comparison to Kate's version, which is a mix of instanity, creepiness and beauty. This version couldn't be sung by a ghost.
