We have a group of senior guys doing this for solo and ensemble tomorrow. :) But next year we're gonna have a group of percussion girls finally kick some butt with this.
Hey, major ups for the effort, but I did this my senior year of highschool. I was in the middle and had a bass player at the bottom and a choir girl at the top and we did it better. Anyone who's done this song can tell you edited it to make it easier. Again, though, having done it myself I know how challenging it is.
@DrGodfather14 I always liked us percussionists because even though other sections may see us as immature or, in some cases, not musicians at all, we at least supported eachother. But you, my friend, are just an asshole. It may not be up to your expectations, but they probably put more time into this piece than you've ever put into anything. Also, I liked it slower. Go away.
@indigoaussie No, alexanderpit2006 is right. The Cadenza in this recording doesn't sound like what's on the sheet music. Might want to check notation on the sheet music, and also there's a few bars of music that weren't even played (skipped?). There's stuff in other parts of the song that are a bit odd too, but the Cadenza is my favorite part, so it really stands out in my criticism of the performance. Still a good performance, though. Stubernic is a tough piece to play.
Ok no offense, but player 2 (the middle guy) needs to check his notes. There were many parts that were just not played at all like they were written, and the interpretation sounded sloppy. Also balance was a bit off throughout much of it. I can understand moving around alot to look visually stimulating, but make sure you have the sound to back it up. It was alright. Again just my 2 cents.
We will be doing this for Solo and Ensemble at my school as well. I love what the center player did from 2:35 to 3:25. It was really cool to have the added notes in the right hand! I may have to steal that for S&E. Amazing job, guys!
By the way which part was easiest to learn?

@slashmane no, it was written by Mark ford, the former Percussion Arts Society president and University of north texas professor.

To alexanderpit2006: You are just so jealous of the guy in the middle. You wish you owned like these three guys. Hope to see more of the fab 3.

First thing, VERY impressive performance!
Second... I'm so curious why this and its sequel have not been transferred to the WGI floor yet. There's so much potential!

too slow when the high part is sweeping and the bottom is on the marimba/side.
it'd be cooler faster.
purpleano 3 years ago
We sped up on the repeat of that part. Going slower and then speeding up was part of the effect of the song.

what an awesome piece and performed by the best. you wouldn't be where you are musically without mark foster. way to go!
