  • This was the first time I had heard him speak, as he is so fond of his privacy. A very rich voice, with the enunciation of a great writer. Then again, there's that wonderful 'Naipaulesque' humor....

  • I love that accent.

  • Naipaul is an incredible man. His writing is testimony to that. It is easy to forget how humorous much of his early writing was, full of sarcasm, irony, a jaundiced eye, but also at times very tender. Having travelled through 'the islands' over a 30 year period I have come to regard his writing as a helpful antidote to the self-important and rude people one may encounter during such journeys. The man also knows how to make fun of himself, which is a mark of truly intelligent people....

  • As grand an occasion as it is and as wonderful an honor as it is, they really need to lose the cheesy looking sea captain hats.

  • He's a relative of mine

  • That's my Great Uncle.

  • @colten117 no joke he's my father's cousin.

  • @OLIVERCAPILDEO I'm not joking Thats my Dad's Uncle; I don't exactly know but my dad's met him and he's either A. My dad's Uncle B. My dads Cousin and also Naipaul's my last name too!

  • Thats my great great uncle. I never met him so thats ho he looks like

  • @Amantulo Why two Nobel prizes? One for the profanities, and the other for being politically correct in a condescending way?

  • You win a Nobel Prize and you're only allowed to speak for 2 minutes? Sheesh!

  • @dafeltre Hahah, I know, shame!

  • isn't it strange that i could find only one video of Naipaul on youtube?

  • Please ask Paul Theroux about the human Naipaul! Maybe read the book about their long friendship ........and how it ended.

It will open your eyes about the human being Naipaul. It gives you information about his dark sites. I can tell you; he has.

  • Belated congratulations to V.S. Naipaul.

  • Now that was just brilliant ... lol

  • Arguably Naipaul is one of the very few writers who retains the difficult task of maintaining objectivity in his works. He remains deeply involved in on what he writes, but to maintain objectivity also manages at the same time to remain uninvolved in it.

  • Someone spoke of Naipaul's West Indian accent coming out when he pronounced the word "everybody. It sure came out with the word "highnesses" at the start of his speech. Yuh can take de man outta Trinidad but yuh cyah take de Trini (accent) outta de man - no matter how hard he tries!

  • very well constructed.. i loved it

  • Open your eyes Sir Vidia. You were target from day one in Pakistan and Nadeera was sent by the IB to trap you!

  • I once red one of his books and it was reely good... it was called A house for Mr Bisman and its about this bloke who wants a house and when he gets it he has a hart attack and his son is called Anand...

  • @nickmarkham69 Correction , its called A house for Mr Biswas

  • I thought I was going to watch a speech in honor of winning the Nobel Prize of Literature, not a reject applicant for the Nobel Prize of Comedy.

  • It's funny how the West Indian accent came out in the word EVERYBODY... Talented man but trying too hard to fit in pretentious society with big and bigger words to explain simple situations.. All in all, his Lordship will only remain a Wog to these folks behind his back. I'am sure he believes otherwise.

  • dude, what's your deal?

  • Ishkhan is right despite low language. She is treacherous slut now betraying the famous husband like everyone else.

  • I want to contact V.S Naipaul. Does anyone know how to access his email address.

V.S Naipaul's writting has inspired me to be better person. He is one of my favourite writter.

  • As a courtesy to the Nobel Laureates, we do not disclose their contact details.

  • @shilpa88888 Send a letter to his publisher or agent. Then, they may forward it. But I doubt he'll reply!

  • @shilpa88888

pity he didn't inspire your spelling as well...

  • @LN1Campy Everyone makes typing mistakes...

  • @shilpa88888 V.S. Naipaul does not use computer or internet. I have been doing research on his travel books. I could not find any way to contact him except going to Wiltshire by public transportation to his doorway to beg for a short time of conversation. It is good that he has been able to inspire goodness in you. But his biography is far cry from being a good man himself.

  • @shilpa88888 V.S Naipaul is now an elderly gentleman completely at the mercy of an evil wife. She humiliates and shouts at him, even in company. She pretends to be a writer but is actually illiterate having everything written for her by others. The woman can't even spell her name properly. It is very sad to witness these outbursts. Shame on you Nadira Naipaul!

  • He was also one of my favourite writers until his ghastly wife became part of the deal. Since marrying that monstrosity I am afraid to say that his work has gone to pot, unsurprisingly.

  • @shilpa88888 I'm glad to help. I believe that it is MistressBeater99@gmail.com

  • Books are substitute for time machine. They take you far away from your familiar surrounding to uncharted teritory.I am student of Hindi Literature ,recently i read House for Mr Biswas .A magnum opus from Naipaul ,initially distant circumstances became proximate, later it became a real life personal experience ,at last it became a revelation. Thanks mr naipaul for helping me to figure out something that is very important in my life.

  • lol! great speech! loved his book A House for Mr. Biswas.. Bravo!

  • What an incredible story of a Hindu boy from a Caribbeans ! VS Naipaul did finally achieve his ambition of becoming a great writer. My only gripe is that he was not critical enough of western cultures. How can only some cultures have faults. I always thought of England and other western Europeans to be nothing more than "technologically advanced uncivilized" people.

  • pity him

  • Lol.. Pity her! When truth comes out and all England learns about the slut. V.S will divorce her. She will bring too much shame upon him.

  • @utubeisjunk What's sad is that he viewed Eastern cultures through the jaundiced eye of British colonialism. In that respect, he's very much like Salman Rushdie and Nehru. However, don't be so quick to condemn European culture, there are many things that would be impossible without Europeans. This nobel prize for example.

  • good observation Sykes i was holding my breath...lol...lest she fall and an avalanche befalls SIr Vidia

  • What fat Lady? Sir Vidia looks well and talks even better. Does not really like India and Indians and is fairly forthcoming about it. Does not like Caribbean blacks either and he calls it as he sees it. No doubt this may be the reason for Mr Iyer's comment.

  • U can se his worries at 1:05

he walks far behind the fat lady, for he knows if she falls backwards and rols over him, his chanse of survival is none.

  • just lol, how in gods name did you even come up with these thoughts ? :) hilarious

  • She is probably a highly distinguished student, else she would not have the honor to be there. And what a wonderful speaker Sir Vidiadhar is. I truly enjoyed his speech.
