It seems to me like they are both a bit too “extreme“ in their respective opinion. How do you manage to stop someone who wants to kill many people before he does it without allowing certain measures of surveillance that in theory will make sure that such a person will never have a chance to do it? Yet how do you keep your rights to be free to think what you want and free to say what you think if those measures are put in place? How do you make sure that there is no abuse of power?

Although this is very very hard, I'll have to agree with Bill O'reily on this one (trust me, I disagree with him on almost everything else). We are not talking about a thought crime here, but an attempted crime. A fleeting thought about murder might not be a crime, but an attempted murder is a real crime.
Also, the Fed's part in this is a red herring. If the Jihad got in contact with him instead, the bombing would have become a reality. Muhamud is guilty

A similar thing happened here in Springfield, Il when the FBI setup some dude with bomb and the means to detonate it and convinced him to bomb the Federal Court Building downtown. Then they arrested him. It isn't a terrorist threat if the government is actively creating the terrorists.

@eric251982 - No, the FBI created the terrorist. They took a vulnerable uneducated kid who was Muslim and named Mohammed and coerced him to go along with the plan for the purpose of propaganda. It's very easy to motivate kids to do all sorts terrible acts. Look at Columbine, they were white kids. We also don't know the whole story. Was the kid offered money? FBI will never admit it and we will never know for sure. A real terrorist does not need FBI help to commit the act.
