I don't know your influences, but if you don't apply any phrasing or blues in your playing, you'll never be heard.

1.showing off

2.serving the song

3.feeling/ expressing ur self threw a solo these fall in the order of the musician maturity about solos this is why we will never determine who the best guitar player unless he is the undisputed best at all 3 never gonna happen but being strong at all 3 will get u far look at van halen

most people who don't understand music or have just jump into guitar or is in theory playing musician will tend to judge and musician by the 1st phase, judge the song with the 2nd phase and have no knowlege of the 3rd phase or any knowledge that there is phases

David - thanks for the reply. I thought that you might be using a pointed pick because of your vids with quarter notes at 200bpm, like Petrucci and Angelo Batio, etc...I think the point helps with minimizing picking motion. Would you agree?

Well I use a pointed Stylus pick for practicing my alternate picking, and yeah it really does help to economise picking motion. But I dont use that pick for performance, just for practice, because it sounds nasty!
