I love Mortal Kombat, saw the legacy thing, now this, thought this would help sell me on it....but this sucks....props for being able to do what he did with like 7500 bucks but needs better story line. Baraka as a failed plastic surgeon who now is a 7th degree black belt fighting with a real life action star (this is believable how he knows martial arts) but a surgeon?
i seen batman the dark knight twice in the theaters than brought the dvd. the way this was looking i would to double time this. see this 4 times in theaters and buy 2 dvds and possibly a blueray. this trailer rocked my a@# off!

Doesn't mean it can't cool in it's own right of course, but if your in love with mortal kombat the game this doesn't do much for you in those terms.
@LuckyYousOwn well think of how fucking in depth the story line is in the mortal kombat games. each character and realm and individual game has some story to it. i personally think that the change is translated well enough to not be a sack of shit like dragonball evolution, like how in batman begins and the dark knight they made things a little more believable than in the comics and cartoons. just think back to how corny the first two mortal kombat movies were lol

People want to argue that this is what Nolan did with Batman. And it's really not. Nolan proved that making a property dramatic and realistic was about execution of the story, not the changing of the story and its characters to ridiculous proportions.
MK should be realistic, but the filmmakers shouldn't try to make it plausible.

A new direction to Mortal Kombat. So far, it looks cool. I don't know if I'm readin' too much into this, but I kinda think it's messed up that they made Baraka black; just my opinion though. Street Fighter was stupid becuz the ppl that made that movie never played that game and was attempting to make money not go for realism nor cinematic flair they just wanted to put the most popular actors of the time to be in the movie to hype ppl up. Most movies in the 90s did that and to be honest back then when it came to comic books,video games, and cartoons no real money nor attention is put to it
2.Lets say you were making a movie and you pitch a movie based ENTIRELY on a fighting game from the 1990's (back before video games had engageing stories,characters you gave a shit about, and a Climatic ending causing in an enduring lasting memory that would stick to your memory for a long time ie modern games such as Mass Effect or the Metal Gear Solid series.) with no coherent plot and 1 sides clitches as character models for your movie.

Now lets say you have the license you did research and noticed that people are not afraid of the supernatural anymore, that the more unrealistic the premise the less likely they will be terrified. Now lets say you found away to maintain all the gimmicks each character had (scorpion's spear,Reptile's appearance, etc...) without the supernatural subtext thus making the audience believe that these ppl could possibly exist in our reality and there you get the money you need to make the movie rite

Because of that premise that you pitched based solely on source material that only interests a small portion of your target audience which is lets say....young to near mid aged males between the ages of 17-30. Warner Bros seeing very little award winning ideas will only green light u enough money for about 1/10th of whatever it is you ask for in order for you to prevent you from making it and/or prevent the studio from taking a massive loss if you continued anyway

Jeri Ryan confirmed on her twitter that this wasn't a trailer or teaser for the new game... they're trying to pitch this to WB... so if WB picks it up then they will make a movie... so the actual movie could be different. Let's hope WB likes it!!

@val1ent its a more realistic look at Mortal Kombat with the emphasis on the word "MORTAL" none of this outworld bullshit with a plot line that was anarexic at best and was going nowhere to begin with atleast this way they can both bring a more realistic (this movie is Rated R by the way) and thus a more respectful look on the original characters while maintaining realistic feel to bring in the newer non video game crowd....good tactic if u ask me

You don't have to change the story completely to make it look a certain way. It's all about execution.

@matrixlone there are 2 differences in MK and Street Fighter:
1. Street Fighter was stupid becuz the ppl that made that movie never played that game and was attempting to make money not go for realism nor cinematic flair they just wanted to put the most popular actors of the time to be in the movie to hype ppl up. Most movies in the 90s did that and to be honest back then when it came to comic books,video games, and cartoons no real money nor attention is put to it

2.Lets say you were making a movie and you pitch a movie based ENTIRELY on a fighting game from the 1990's (back before video games had engageing stories,characters you gave a shit about, and a Climatic ending causing in an enduring lasting memory that would stick to your memory for a long time ie modern games such as Mass Effect or the Metal Gear Solid series.) with no coherent plot and 1 sides clitches as character models for your movie.

@Empha84 Haven't seen that yet. He has black belts in 7 different forms. I became a fan after I watched the behind the scenes doc on Universal Soldier:The Return DVD. This new MK movie won't be a steaming pile that was "The Legend of Chun Li".
