Robert's in his sixties....his not singing w/Zeppelin isn't about a "new" choice. It's about not being able to do justice to what we're all wishing would happen....to hear Led Zeppelin. Even if he could keep up with the Robert of old, or Jimmys' guitar....would it be as cool as it used to be? I used to be really irritated about it, but maybe we should just let it be. Better to go out on top....know what I mean?
@K1LLAKCR1P they all agreed that if one of them died or left, they wouldn't try to keep Led Zep together. It's just that Jimmy and John had second thoughts, and Robert never looked back.
@JacKass00001 the levee didn't break it was blown up by the army corp of engineers and was caught on video tape as they did it. FEMA ceased the tape and it was leaked out to Alex Jones and now you can see it on his website. New Orleans was a test for Martial Law after Katrina, thats why the cops confiscated all the guns. @Babaziba Naw, not at all, look at the original from 1929 Memphis Minnie, theres one version thats just sad an ominous as can be. As far as Plant touring with Page and JPJ goes 1) it would never live up to your expectations 2) they probably had a deal, all for one one for all and they're not going to break a promise even after J.B. is dead and 3) most importantly Led Zeppelin is unfortunately the past,I think doing music with Kraus hes looking at the present.TODAYS MUSIC SUX!
@tommyhef1 I dont know I wasin Louisville one night and this man came up and said theres the hand that just shook Robert Plants hand. He was telling the trueth as about 2 streets over Plant and Krauss were doing an outdoor festival.

@easymelon2187 Your right. Zeppelin didn't write it. But they wrote Black Dog, and he sings that with Alison too. I don't want to see him sing them with Krauss, I want to see him sing them with the band that made these songs great, whether they wrote them or not. My opinion and I'm entitled to it.
Allison Krauss is cool for what she does, but let's not fool ourselves bluegrass with fiddles and standup basses etc. Aint no rocking Zep and it sounds weak and boring this way.
Memphis Minnie is, in fact, credited on Led Zeppelin 4 version Ianyone that has the old vinyl version at least can easily verify this) even if they only credit for harmonica , just having fun there rather than being dishonest

@ssllsskk I learned to play Bass through 2 bands AC/DC and Led Zeppelin.I would learn J.P.J. riffs then make up my own and try to apply them to a simple song like Shot down in flames. To me, AC/DC is the best band ever. They take the 4/4 3 chord approach and make it so rock solid tight the only band thats could compete with them The Ramones!Led Zeppelin created Heavy Metal which Sabbath took even further.Metal is the ONLY music the Black man cant lay claim too.Every thing else is a rip.
IMHO The whole drive to this song emanated from John Bonham's syncopated drum beat. When they do this without that, it just sounds hollow (Sorry Alison, and Neil Young who also tried it).

I'm 53, played their music and I've got to say," It all depends on your musical sophistication." "Achilles Last Stand",for example, maybe one of the best Zepplin songs ever! Point, there's something awsome on every album! That's why they're the legendary "Led Zepplin", after all! But hey, isn't this a great match-up with Allison and Plant doing essentially the "Bluegrass rooted" acuoustic J.P.Jones=Zepplin songs! Way, Way, Way.Coool!!!

Zeps best albums were 1, 2 and Houses of the Holy in that order. Anything after that was average at best. Anyone over the age of 40 will attest to that.
My bullshit alarm went off as soon as I read this. First you state your opinion, which is alright, but then you state that anyone over 40 will agree, making it seem as though the only people who know about music are over 40 years old. Now your not only giving your opinion but also putting above everyone else's because "Everyone over 40 knows more about music than anyone else". What?
yeaaa you are a fool to say that i'm gonna have to agree with mr. lonious funkk. i'm 19 years old and i'm a musician and i think that i have a decent understanding of good music. there are so many different aspects of this band that attribute to their success. to narrow all of their talents down into those three albums is just silly. they played spectacular music from the point they formed til the day bonzo died, and they still do in their own ways.
im 19 not over 40 and i have to say u r forgetting number 4 which is probably there best.... and also led 3 which is very underrated but if u listen to those acoustic songs closley they actually rock...oh and presence is awsome with royal orleans maybe one of my fav zep songs and of course achilles last stand and nobodys fault but mine....oh and in through the out door with all of my love and anothe rone of my fav zep songs hot dog and fool in the rain with an amazing drum track
My favorite was actually Physical Graffiti. Presence was also a very good album, but I don't understand why anyone would put down any of Zep's music. All of it was great.
I appear to have stumbled across the neurotic's page. You may see yourself as being in some way different to the others ambientwork84, but only in as much as youre foul-mouthed and unlike the others, xenophobic. I dont understand people who get apoplectic when their favourite pop stars go on to do new things, they sound like possessive children; maybe thats not a bad definition of the average punter.
Well finally you sound like you have calmed down, Hi, glad to meet you! so type in Jeff Beck hall of fame and you could see him and Page play together last week. They play Becks Bolero, look up that song and you will find that the back ground to that song is very interesting. John...........
You dont get it because your not a real Zeppelin fan, thats why...... sorry......question, are you to young to be a zep fan? meaning that you were in diapers when Zep was touring in the 70s?
Because I was in diapers when Zeppelin were touring I'm not a real Zep fan? Motzart must not have any true fans either, eh? again, not understanding the logic. I'm as big a fan as your likley to find, just not unreasonable. I try and convert anybody who will listen into a fan of this band. I WISH I were alive to see them in concert, but their time has come and gone. Thankfully they left us with their legacy. I would love it it they were to create new music, but its not my choice.
You fail to recognize how big Led Zeppelin is and how creative their music is. Led Zeppelin is bigger that Plant and he owes his life to Zeppelin so you grow up and open your eyes. I refuse to steep to your level.
so, the rest of his life he OWE it to us to be in Led Zeppelin? Isn't that a selfish statment? I think you are confuse as to who is the unreasonable one. Not trying to be a b*tch, I just don't get the logic
are you 12? Get a life....led zeppelin's music will live forever...but the band has been no more for almost 30 years. People are allowed to change and grow....why don't you as well. I'm not saying you have to like this, but respect RP's right to move in other directions and other tangents.
I've been a Zeppelin fan since 1969 and I'd be the first to agree. Zeppelin were a spent force before Bonzo died (Unless you think In Through The Out Door is a great album). Keep on with your career Robert, it ain't worth trying to ressurrect the past.
I agree. Physical Grafiti was probably their last great album. Presence wasn't that creative, and In Through the Outdoor...Carouselombra?! Gimme a break. I'd rather Jimmy and Robert get together here and there spontaneously, instead of having a big, over hyped, recycled Led Zep tour. I just don't think it'd be fresh. I'm really amazed at how well Robert's done, considering he was in the greatest group of all time. Of course....he contributed quite a bit...
Presence wasn't that creative?! woah buddy i think you have to go listen to achilles last stand another hundred times like i have and make that claim...
I love Achilles, I'm just saying there was less creativity on that album by comparison to the others. The band was under a lot of pressure and not at their best at that time.
@DCussen there's more creativity in that 45 minute album than you will ever be capable of in your entire lifetime. Zep rules, you've got nothin on them and never will. have some respect.
Achilles Last Stand in my favorite song, and for those people who think they know Zepp, they should think again before comenting crap like that, dont you agree?
@seraphiclink I AGREE i honestly think its some of their most technically phenomenal work. the timing in "nobody's fault but mine" blows my mind every time. Granted one was probably their best but presence knocks me on my ass.
@seraphiclink not to mention every other track on that album. Presence, to me, is as good as any Zep album I've heard. A little underrated, to be sure.
Yes, Robet Plant has a "vision", lol thats why he keeps singing Zep songs. Cumon Plant !, if your so into doing different music then do your own music and NOT Led Zeppelin music, you stupid .....s
This is a song that Led Zeppelin covered.....that must mean they were unorigional too? This is so vastly different then the zep version that it is as origional as theirs was. Zeppelin is my favorite band ever, but this just sends chills up and down.....Its more haunting.
mussman, are you kidding me? This kind of exploration is why Plant got into music. I don't know what Page's problem is these days.
You ever heard the Page/Plant version of "Nobody's Fault But Mine?" It's completely different that the Zeppelin version, more like the Blind Willie Johnson version, but still fresh. That's what Zeppelin was all about. Exploration.
And Plant isn't butchering anything. He's practically a musicologist: he knows what he's doing.
I'm astonished at how clueless some people are about the paring of these two huge talents. This is wonderful music with vision, class and chops. And for all those people who think Plant is making a joke of himself, the joke is on Jimmy Page, who can't seem to put Zep behind him. Plant has proven that he's still relenvant and doesn't need to relive the past. Come on Page! Get off your ass and do something different!
i think that covers are not so easy to do . it's an hard work... you always risk to be worse than the original. this band let us see that covers can be an original work and a great one.

Message to Plant: Your composing days are over. Quit F#%king up classic songs. You talk about someone hanging on when he should be sent off to pasture. This is a joke to any Real Zeppelin Fan
I speak the facts brother. If they wanted to start a new project, write your OWN music. Don't be messing with songs that you haven't want to sing in 30 years. This sounds worse than me and my friends singing in the car.........WTF was he thinking....
Robert Plant Alison Kraus are both great artists who collaborated to make an exceptional album in 2008. For all those nay sayers posting negative comments on this clip, you are single minded music fans. Take a listen to some of the album in better quality than this before rushing to judgment. Without growth in life/music you will never find anything new. New things open minds and which will give you a greater appreciation of life!
I'd rather see them all retired than doing shit like this, murdering their great reputations. This is a regressive movement, a poisoning of all the great work and sacrifice that was accomplished. Time to retire guys.
shoot me now! why would plant refuse to tour in 08 with page& jonesy after o2 & cater to those who would appreciate what he is doing? wtf is he doing?!! sounds like moose season!
'tis true. look up Memphis Minnie doing this song. its the original and much closer to the feel of this version than Led Zeps. I love Zep but is common knowledge they put their own spin on quite a few tunes that weren't really theirs. and as much as we'd all like to see Zep tour again, let's be real, Roberts not 25 anymore and can't hit those notes any longer. we should just listen to our old vinyl, remember them as they were and move on. He's done alot of great music on his own you know!
i dont realy have a problem with plant but im gonna say one thing... it may get alot of thumbs downy thingies, but Robert's voice is shot, gonzo, in the led zep concert last year they tuned all the music down like 5 steps, and anyone who doesnt know music, that basically means that they lowered all the notes in the music down five whole keys, just because plant cant hit the notes he used to be able to, his voice is ok, but its so much more passionless now
People get old, voices too. That's a much better solution for an older voice than Roger Daltrey continuing failures to be a scream queen... And I say that even being a Who fan and not too much of a Led Zep one. I really like it in lower keys... Maybe all should follow Johnny Cash's example if you're right about being passionless...
His voice is not as good as it used to be, but have you heard "Gone, Gone, Gone"? He can still hit those falsetto notes pretty damn well. He's not 20 anymore but that's what happens.
The Zeppelin hardcore fans are really annoying there is no question about it Zeppelin were a great band but its OVER. Alison Krauss has been on the scene for quite a while now any serious music fan has to admit that she is a great artist equal to Plant if not greater. After all she is not only a one in a lifetime singer but a virtuoso fiddle player and her band is the best band around these days.
I love Led Zeppelin and Alison Krauss has good music as well. I love them together, however their Led Zeppelin covers are just too... different for me. I love the rest of their songs though.

For all arguing that Robert Plant owes his fame to Zeppelin, try and realize that his career since Zeppelin has been longer with probably more recordings than with Zeppelin. It's so very sad that diehard Zeppelin "fans" criticize anything he does that is not with Jimmy Page and "Zeppelin." Listen to the reunion of LZ in London last year - awful, horrible. Frankly, this is much more mature and sophisticated. Jimmy Page really can't play very well any more. I saw them in 1977 and it was awesome.
Of course you don't remember that When the levee breaks by led zeppelin was a cover song as well. Its not like led zeppelin owns rock there was music before them like the songwriter who wrote it.
I agree with janice4tom & Hallowedholy - the original blues songs were very raw and quite often not easy on the ear. Alison & Robert were probably closer to the original style of the old blues than they've ever been (I mean that as a compliment!)
Why is everyone so harsh? He's just changing with the times like we all are. The slow rythmic , droning beat is very typical of some of the oldest delta blues known. Let the man do his thing! And she's no bimbo. Alison Krauss has a great voice and is pretty avant garde for a country singer to do these numbers with Plant.
ive already said this in a reply to one comment but im gonna post it for everyone, when the levee breaks is actually an old blues song and they changed it musically however they did not write the song and this is actually a more similar genre to the original version
This song takes on a new meaning after Katrina and maybe that is why it wasn't performed in the character of the original, not to say that I appreciate it musically.
led zeppelin's version of "when the levee breaks" was actually a cover of an old blue's song so this version is actually more similiar to the actual original
I dont care how much money this brought him, he should have just let zep songs be. I dont mind covers as long as they are in the same genre as the song being covered.
same genre ? umm when the levee breaks was a old blues song before zep covered it into a rock song.. so.. really the fact they take a blues song and do this with is is creative, however i really dont like this at all.

All of zeps songs are jams. The #1 band of all time! I'm 55
butkus54 2 years ago
My bullshit alarm went off as soon as I read this. First you state your opinion, which is alright, but then you state that anyone over 40 will agree, making it seem as though the only people who know about music are over 40 years old. Now your not only giving your opinion but also putting above everyone else's because "Everyone over 40 knows more about music than anyone else". What?
Theloniousfunkk 2 years ago
yeaaa you are a fool to say that i'm gonna have to agree with mr. lonious funkk. i'm 19 years old and i'm a musician and i think that i have a decent understanding of good music. there are so many different aspects of this band that attribute to their success. to narrow all of their talents down into those three albums is just silly. they played spectacular music from the point they formed til the day bonzo died, and they still do in their own ways.
yunkin19 2 years ago
im 19 not over 40 and i have to say u r forgetting number 4 which is probably there best.... and also led 3 which is very underrated but if u listen to those acoustic songs closley they actually rock...oh and presence is awsome with royal orleans maybe one of my fav zep songs and of course achilles last stand and nobodys fault but mine....oh and in through the out door with all of my love and anothe rone of my fav zep songs hot dog and fool in the rain with an amazing drum track
MrBrownstone1994 2 years ago
My favorite was actually Physical Graffiti. Presence was also a very good album, but I don't understand why anyone would put down any of Zep's music. All of it was great.

I appear to have stumbled across the neurotic's page. You may see yourself as being in some way different to the others ambientwork84, but only in as much as youre foul-mouthed and unlike the others, xenophobic. I dont understand people who get apoplectic when their favourite pop stars go on to do new things, they sound like possessive children; maybe thats not a bad definition of the average punter.

You dont get it because your not a real Zeppelin fan, thats why...... sorry......question, are you to young to be a zep fan? meaning that you were in diapers when Zep was touring in the 70s?
johnpatino1 2 years ago

I refuse to steep to your level.
johnpatino1 2 years ago
so, the rest of his life he OWE it to us to be in Led Zeppelin? Isn't that a selfish statment? I think you are confuse as to who is the unreasonable one. Not trying to be a b*tch, I just don't get the logic
AmieMcA 2 years ago
You won't steep to AmieMcA's level, it's waaaay to high for you.
One reason Zeppelin is so big is because Robert Plant is the singer. You take him away and everything just falls away.
elendirlight 2 years ago
You know what? WE LED ZEPPELIN FANS have disowned Plant, we do not want him back in OUR Band that SOB!
johnpatino1 2 years ago
are you 12? Get a life....led zeppelin's music will live forever...but the band has been no more for almost 30 years. People are allowed to change and grow....why don't you as well. I'm not saying you have to like this, but respect RP's right to move in other directions and other tangents.
AmieMcA 2 years ago
LOL, Now I know Jimmy Page is indeed commenting on youtube.
Who the fuck are you to disown Plant? Go screw yourself.
elendirlight 2 years ago
I've been a Zeppelin fan since 1969 and I'd be the first to agree. Zeppelin were a spent force before Bonzo died (Unless you think In Through The Out Door is a great album). Keep on with your career Robert, it ain't worth trying to ressurrect the past.
DaMuttzNutz 2 years ago
DCussen 2 years ago
Presence wasn't that creative?! woah buddy i think you have to go listen to achilles last stand another hundred times like i have and make that claim...
seraphiclink 2 years ago 41
I love Achilles, I'm just saying there was less creativity on that album by comparison to the others. The band was under a lot of pressure and not at their best at that time.
DCussen 2 years ago
@DCussen there's more creativity in that 45 minute album than you will ever be capable of in your entire lifetime. Zep rules, you've got nothin on them and never will. have some respect.

Achilles Last Stand in my favorite song, and for those people who think they know Zepp, they should think again before comenting crap like that, dont you agree?
Arturoxtei 2 years ago
@seraphiclink I AGREE i honestly think its some of their most technically phenomenal work. the timing in "nobody's fault but mine" blows my mind every time. Granted one was probably their best but presence knocks me on my ass.

@seraphiclink not to mention every other track on that album. Presence, to me, is as good as any Zep album I've heard. A little underrated, to be sure.

Again I ask, what happened to the Audio!!?... 2 of the greatest musicians ever, sounded like a fart in a mud bath, drowned out by a jet engine!....
drvrdug 2 years ago
mussman, are you kidding me?

It's not originally a Zepplin song, it was actually first recorded by Memphis Minnie. So they are covering a cover.
THis version is LOT closer to the original
archer1949 3 years ago 2
Well this Memphis Minnie is only credited for the writing of the song together with the 4 Led Zep members so it is still a Led Zeppelin song

'tis true. look up Memphis Minnie doing this song. its the original and much closer to the feel of this version than Led Zeps.

Sointula2 3 years ago 2
People get old, voices too. That's a much better solution for an older voice than Roger Daltrey continuing failures to be a scream queen... And I say that even being a Who fan and not too much of a Led Zep one. I really like it in lower keys... Maybe all should follow Johnny Cash's example if you're right about being passionless...
dalegrett 3 years ago
His voice is not as good as it used to be, but have you heard "Gone, Gone, Gone"? He can still hit those falsetto notes pretty damn well. He's not 20 anymore but that's what happens.

The Zeppelin hardcore fans are really annoying there is no question about it Zeppelin were a great band but its OVER. Alison Krauss has been on the scene for quite a while now any serious music fan has to admit that she is a great artist equal to Plant if not greater. After all she is not only a one in a lifetime singer but a virtuoso fiddle player and her band is the best band around these days.
kingluella10 3 years ago
Oh and it could also be that none of their covers are recorded professionally. So the terrible audio makes it sound that much more terrible.

I saw them in 1977 and it was awesome.

another piece of shit to make a buck off of led zeppelin....just tour with zeppelin instead of fucking up the origenal tast of the song

Of course you don't remember that When the levee breaks by led zeppelin was a cover song as well. Its not like led zeppelin owns rock there was music before them like the songwriter who wrote it.

Sounds a lot like the original version of the song, you know, back when it was an acoustic Blues song.
SixtiesOverdose 3 years ago
I agree with janice4tom & Hallowedholy - the original blues songs were very raw and quite often not easy on the ear. Alison & Robert were probably closer to the original style of the old blues than they've ever been (I mean that as a compliment!)

adventure002006 3 years ago
Why is everyone so harsh? He's just changing with the times like we all are. The slow rythmic , droning beat is very typical of some of the oldest delta blues known. Let the man do his thing! And she's no bimbo. Alison Krauss has a great voice and is pretty avant garde for a country singer to do these numbers with Plant.

same genre ? umm when the levee breaks was a old blues song before zep covered it into a rock song.. so.. really the fact they take a blues song and do this with is is creative, however i really dont like this at all.
