The max. you can upgrade the RAM on this Mac mini is to 3GB. While the processor can address 4GB of RAM, the motherboard only allows for 3GB--trust me, I own the exact same machine and upgraded it.
Did you copy your old hard drive onto the new one before you installed it? Do you know if you can boot directly from the OSX 10.5 disk as long as you have all your files backup up elsewhere? I've heard you can just insert the disk and when you power it on you hold the "C" button. Please let me know if you've heard any of this before.
I put my old hard drive in an external USB enclosure and plugged it in around 3:25. Then I held down the "C" button at 3:44 to boot from the OS X CD. Once booted via CD I used Disk Utilities to copy the contents of the old (external) drive to the new (internal) one. Finally I boot from the new HDD around 5:27. Finished!
1) Check the info on my video and you'll see all the specs for my Mac Mini: This mac is a Core 2 Duo 1.83 GHz running OS X 10.5.2. It originally shipped with 1 GB RAM and an 80 GB HDD.
2) Yes, you can upgrade your memory and HDD. It sounds like you have the old G4 processor and motherboard that supports up to 1GB of RAM.
Sorry, I didn't plan on people using this as a guided upgrade tutorial. But I did create a how-to for people that would like to make their own Mac mini monitor mount:
Yes, it's harder to use front row. But I rarely use the remote control so it wasn't an issue for me. My iPhone can control iTunes via WiFi so there's no need to have line-of-sight to the IR port.

if you were going to upgrade the ram, you should've put 4GBs in and save yourself the work later on

That's pretty awesome how he had it mounted to the back of the monitor.
It gives the illusion of an All-in-One computer. :)

The Mac mini is good for the casual user, but once you get into the more demanding tasks, the iMac is the way to go.

Very cool perspective. You must have been careful not to move things too much as you were working.
