Does it have to be WIFI to connect it to your iPhone/iPad ? Can you not use Bluetooth ? I would use this for different video shots of walking in the mountains, so wifi might be tricky !! :)
@chris25119600 the problem with the drone is that if your not using an Ipad you will need to update the firmware. Alas Parrot (who makes the drone) is shipping their products with outdated firmware. Granted it only takes 5 mins to update it with any windows 7 laptop.
ah - see what you mean. Touch one - I got mine in the States for about £200 - now THAT isn't right - isn't it French anyway? Should be cheaper here!
Anyway - it is expensive - and the fact that you have to have an apple product does not help - I believe they are working on Android? I guess it is'first of its kind' ie: not one of the mega expensive self-build/kit options. Next generation may be cheaper... I want to use it as a film platform to film us mountain biking and with the car on track...
Hey guys - be careful! In response to this and the question below - not sure I was totally in control getting that high! I mean, I was in control, but I had not intended to go so high. I think a major help was that we were in the middle of no where, so no interference from other wireless devices, clear view of the drone etc etc. Haven't gone that high since! Range and height was certainly pretty big though.
how did you get that kind of range out of it? that was well over 150 feet which is what everything I have read says is max. that was 200+ feet easy. any mods?
@ccchackalll - got it. If you look at the very first 2 seconds of film, you can see the two blades (left & right ) at the front of the AR Drone, bottom of the pic. I don't have an RC heli - doubt I could fly it if I did. The drone did go high in this clip, but I reckon out in the middle of nowhere there is no wi-fi interference, hence the range/height.
Awesome video and great flying. Best AR Drone video I have seen. It looks like a few times the Drone rapidly descended was this your actions or loss of Wi-Fi signal?
It creates it's own wifi network, you just connect on your device.

GoPro HD
Maybe called the Helmet now? The top one - not the 170, not the 960
caterhamnut 10 months ago
Which version? The HERO 170, 960, or HERO Helmet?

if that ran out of battery...smash.....£300 quid wasted
febthemule1 10 months ago
@febthemule1 - uh - yes. But it was fully charged! Anyway, the flight app gives you plenty of warning on battery level.

@caterhamnut oh k but is the drone worth £300
febthemule1 10 months ago
What type of camera is mounted on it? This is very high quality footage.

It won't be long before I have the balls to take my drone to those altitudes.. It's not a week old yet though!
