Super elaborate prank pretty much describes Weird Al's musical career, ah3133 XD Nah I love the song and I love the guy. BTW if you haven't seen the movie "Vidiot from UHF" starring Weird Al you're missing out - seriously a cult classic in every sense of the word.
i just watched the original dire straits video. it's amazing how similar this video is. the fact that they went to such effort to make it look like the original is funny in and of itself. it's like a super-elaborate prank. it's brilliant though! thanks for posting :)
