Great engineering marvel. The way I see it though is that it brings very few upgrades to the table, especially for the cost and complexity. It gives cargo/troop transport better range and speed, while retaining the vertical lift capability of a helicopter.
The Osprey is potentially more survivable as well, using speed, low level and planning to avoid enemy fire, but V22 MUST do this as there is no weight margin to spare to uparmour it. Too bad this weakness will limit it to the rear for now.
@jimmyrhondy you do realize this plane has been in the works since the 70's right, and bell aerospace started getting close to a finished product in the earl 80's. then in the 90's bell and boeing hooked up to complete what you see today.

I was in the air force. These are going to replace the c-130 and h-53.

Such a beautfiul machine! :) I have been in love with it for years. Its too bad about the bugs though, still doesnt make me love it anyless.

@AmberW85 my dad works for bell helicopter on the v-22 and project. almost all of the bugs are gone.
