How I found work life balance - I used to work in a job I didn't like particularly for someone else & since my whole day was mostly taken up with that job my balance was mainly about doing something I didn't enjoy no matter how much I focused on being good at it.
The solution? I left & started my own business which I run from home. Now I have life work balance because I get to be my own boss & I can do my job however I choose without trying to be someone else's idea of who I should be.
Actually this isn't just for leaders - its for everyone who just began a road in the work force! Its hard at first - but as you said you need to find pasion in things around you otherwise you'll just burn out...
