I just made a gun using a an old broken Harley shovel clutch lever and a concrete bolt housing and a air hose nossle. Yep its a rotary job just like yours. I'll keep in touch and show you when i can vid it. I used a 316 stainless tig wire for the needle then sharpend and grooved it.

A good artist can use almost any gun, My mate spends most of his time fixing so called pro guns for others.
