Not many things phase me, but this has, and I've been trying to work out exactly what the point of this game is. It looks fantastic -reminiscent of Settlers 1+2 <3
From what I can see, the idea is to simply let your team make houses while destroying the other teams houses, by changing the landscape... and you can do earthquakes... you do this until the map is full of your houses, but that's all?
Interesting enough for me to be honest, I'd love to play this, can't wait for the DS game
I think this version (the original) was the most fun. You try to keep the land flat for your people and free of swamps. You create knights to kill the enemey's people and use god powers like earthquakes and volcanoes to disrupt the enemy's land. This was like the predecessor to modern real-time-strategy games.
I wish they would make a new populous game. It really was the perfect god game. You didn't manage the people, they managed themselves, you just paved the way for them. Black and White was cool but had too much micro-management.
I played this game a long time ago on Sega Genesis. I had a cartdrige with both Mickey: WoI and Populous, but whenever we insterted it, it would only play Mickey. One day I had this crazy idea of inserting the game, turning on the console, removing the game without turning it off, insert it again and press reset. That's how I got to play Populous. A completely senseless procedure for a out-of-this-world weird game (considering that time's standards). I love this game, and it still looks dreamy.
My friend had Populous when it first came out on PC. I spent weeks, maybe months, at his house playing it every day after school. Cool game for its time.
I remember myself playing it on a NES emulator in my brand new computer when i was like ... 7 years old. I could spend hours playing it just looking at the screen trying to figure out what to do (I didn't speak english at that time)
Thanks for bring the old good populous to youtube ^^ Ii's waaay better than the new one ^^
I remember playing a port of this on a super NES. This was a very different game at the time. The "god" aspect really translates with the music and presentation. The upper levels were pretty difficult as well, with your deifified opponent starting out much more powerful.
Is there any chance to get this game on mac?

This is the PC Engine version right? It looks pretty English friendly. Is this the Hu-Card or CD?

- 'a god' doesn't neccessarily mean from the christian religion :P
besides, the christian god has unlimited powers supposedly... the populous gods are extremely limited :D

Although I adored Populous: The Beginning, I could never, ever figure out what to do in these original Populous games. I was mystified. And still am.

Basically you raise and lower land for your people to settle on, who produce mana, which lets you cast nifty spells on your opponents followers.
