Niel peart uses thunderclouds for toilet paper. Niel peart charges headfirst into the sun. niel walks the razor's edge with only a drumstick for a balancing rod..
Rush is the most humorously Canadian (eh) of all the rock bands on the face of the earth! They added other famous voices to their shows; the Simpsons, Jerry Stiller, South Park, etc. Just ask the band from Canada for Canada.
am i the only one who thinks their 80's catalog is grossly underrated? Signals through Hold Your Fire i feel is some of their most creative work, Power Windows in particular.
and you're right, the whammy bar is what makes this song. i've tried to play songs from Power Windows without a whammy bar and it just doesn't sound the same. a lot of the character is lost.
What I like is Alex's liberal use of the whammy bar. It almost seems like the whammy bar has gone out of use in the pastt few years, ya know? S'good to see a man use it.
Yeah, he does not abuse it like others. I wish he would play his "Signature". He helped design that particular guitar during the Hold Your Fire days (1987)... beautiful guitars... but quite expensive. Floyd Rose and EMG p/ups... Google "Signature Guitar Company".
This is an AWESOME Performance...... RUSH RULES!!! It is unfortunate that I didn't hear about them until this single came out in late 1985 (I was only eight years old). At least I became a fan at one time or another.... right! It is fun to see Neil playing all of those drums!
Well, his setup is so complex, but BASICALLY just simple distortion w/ alot of chorus. In this song his guitar is tuned UP to F#, B, E, A, C#, F#. If you do not want to break strings, use a Capo on the 2nd fret. Otherwise, he probably uses an Octave pedal.
LOL at Geddy at 00:40.

DUDE. Listening to Peart drum like that, I almost soiled myself....

Alex Lifeson is CRIMINALLY underrated.
I would put him the top 5 guitars of all time, above the two most overrated guitarists, Van Halen and Hendrix.

I also like the note played a 2:50. It just goes to show you what happens when a perfect chord is played.

I just realized that the drums seem almost passive in parts of this song, ya know? It's really driven by the guitar and bass.
