  • Go stick your faces in the disposal!

  • @bLAStSuCaRTa,

OK, Please do not use direspectful and purverse language on a public forum of which children have access. 1st of all, because of legal ties with my management company etc, I cannot display my real name, you must understand this. That being said and with my wishes to be both professional and diplomatic, there will an effort to be less hostile with my communications. Best regards, "The Bluesman"

  • He's ok. Kind of sounds like a girl playing, it's so delicate. This guy has no balls. I'm a blues player once and formost and I would get on stage and just crush this nerd. I remember sitting in with this guy in LA and he started playing over me with all this processed pedal shit. I beat the fuck out of the pussy right there on stage. He just went down unconcious with his "Ibanez" piece of shit and didn't move. That was the last time those guys asked me to sit in! Sonny reminds me of that punk..

  • @ebay9302 you put this same retarded spew on all comments...no one has heard of you ebay girl...no one ever will. We like our musicians to be humble. We can all smell your cunt...and buddy it stinks...you should wash it!

  • This is totally mesmerizing. For four minutes and three seconds, you transcend to a higher level of conciousness. Absolutely breathtaking!!

  • After finding a sponsors pass on the ground at the PDX Bluesfest in '09 I got to sit onstage and watch Sonny play. After he finished the set half the crowd went wild and the other half just stood there with their jaws on the ground. I got to meet him after the show and he signed my all access pass. He is a genuine person who likes his fans. Now I feel i must sell all of my guitars as I was thoroughly schooled.

  • Sends chills down my spine.

  • innovator with huge heart!gotta loves thecats that have their own identity -ya can tell after a few notes its them...

  • This guy is unbelievable.

  • It's Voodoo!

  • Other guys have had the same effect on me...."why do I bother"...Jimi, Clapton, Mclaughlin, Beck. But in the 45 years I've been playing It has given me great joy.

    It's been quite enlightning.

  • I've been playing fo over 40 years...I wonder why I bother...lol

  • @poppi286 ....ain't that the truth. I almost hate going to see guys of this caliber becuase it brings the pain of reality home.....a humbling experience to say the least.....I saw Satriani w/ Leslie West a few month's back and wondered why I even still play......but I still have fun with it regardless.

  • Sonny's amazing live - he will play around New Orleans during Jazzfest -at Rock n'Bowl a few nights, his own set at the fest and he may sit in with some other musicans during their sets. Truly a genius of the guitar.

  • I saw Sonny play at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano CA last month. The most amazing live performance by a guitar player I have ever seen! And I have seen many of the greats. This guy is a pure magician on a guitar.

  • "Louisiana slide master" sounds appropriately voodoo...

  • what does he do at 3:09?

  • @tannerr96 i dunno i rewatched it dozens of times and still can't fathom it. must be voodoo

  • @fozdiv thats the only thing i can think of

  • Other fucking wordly! Lovin' it!

  • the one person that disliked this is a moron!

  • 4 minutes and 3 seconds of pure joy !

  • WOW, Just WOW

  • my jaw is in the floor... i dont seem to be able to pick it up.... sonny,, you just got yourself a new fan

  • Unreal. True mastery...

  • I have no idea how he's getting those harmonics so smoothly but it's absolutely BRILLIANT!

  • Jesus, this guy is a magician and a true scientist of his instrument. Every time I listen to Sonny I just get amazed of how unique can you be with just a slide and a strat. This particular song is a masterpiece at it's best.

  • 3:24

  • The first time I saw Sonny was at the CrossRoads Blues Festival. Unbelievable. I came across this and showed it to my nephew who plays the guitar. He was completely blown away. Thanks for uploading this.

  • Class!!!

  • who's the DEAD MAN that dislikes this video, god U can always tell the beginner guitar hero, they fall for the dislike button every time,

  • I had an eargasm at about the 02:42 mark.

  • Amazing. It's incredible what he does with the delay and his right hand!

  • One word - Wow!!!!

  • art.

gaugin and van gough need to change the oil in their shared '54 chevy pick up truck and decide to go for beignets at cafe du monde so hire sonny to get the job done.

  • Sonny just kills on electric slide. This is something else, a beautiful solo elec. guitar piece with independent parts. Somehow it reminds me of a mash-up of Leo Kottke & Mike Gordon, bassist from Phish (if he was drummer Jim Gordon's son), meeting Clapton backstage at a concert to jam on a 'Motherless Children' promoting his 461 Ocean Blvd. album back in '74. Yeah, I know, but that was my feeling. Obscure, but makes sense to me somehow.

  • you play for years and you think you know something about the instrument and then you see something like this and you realize that there are no boundaries ...

  • that riff @ 2:49 made me smile.

  • this is how guitar should be in a tom petty song

  • I like it

  • Man I lOVE this guy's playing...

  • Landreth is one innovative son-of a-bitch !! You gotta love this guy!!!

  • is not human, probably comes from mars

  • i can't take my eyes off of his right hand. this is an incredible display of harmonics

  • Great guitar player! Spoke him once after a John Hiatt concert and also once before a concert of his own accord.

  • All I can come up with is.... Wow. Literally jaw-dropping chops.

  • Ear candy. What a touch.

  • Beyond genius!

  • Incredible.

  • what is he doing at 0:43-0:45 to get that swell, he is not touching any knobs. he also does it at 3:10. seen him do it on a les paul as well on ON Your Way Down g'ovt mule

  • @BOOGLUV89 its muting the strings!

  • @aleeber2003 no, because after he kills the strings , the volume comes back up , like an echo. i can't figure it out...

  • @Erevial search "Sonny Landreth Terraplace Resonator Demo" he does it there too and one of the top-rated comments explains how he does it. I tried it on my acoustic and it works! (not as good as electric, but still really sweet!)

  • @NHBluesMan thanks man! i did watch that video and tried it too- it does work ! i also found sonny himself explaining his technique at the total guitar channel- check it out !

  • The master of slide !!

  • every day... an opportunity to live, love and learn...every moment spent watching Sonny Landreth an absolute pleasure of sound, harmony and innovation...

  • Sonny's great period! Guitarist, singer, songwriter and a helluva nice guy!

  • This right here is cutting edge musicianship. way to go Mr Landreth! Keep on inspiring

  • might as well cut my fingernails back to the wrists and burn my Strat !

  • I'd like to hear Sonny and Eric Johnson trading '8's'.

  • beautiful song. outstanding guitarist. a true master of his craft.

  • beautiful song. outstanding guitar. a true master of his craft.

  • A man who understands his instrument.....totally!

  • Sooooo Amazing!!!

  • LIKE YOU, YOU GOT SOUL........LOVE, ANGEL

  • Good Lord! Not many players you can call Virtuoso these days. But that's Sonny. That's a Virtuoso.

  • One man playing slide guitar. Quiet beautiful and very moving. Get past the intro for a rare back stage treat with a slide guitar master and a great writer.

  • I love the way he spank his axe...man, it´s awesome...and the effect at 0:45???...wow man...rock needs more guitar players like him and stop the Vai`s wanna be...LOL...great guitar player...no words to explain...

  • I love the way he spank his axe...man...his style is plenty of harmonics...and the effect at 3:10...awesome...man...rock needs players laike him and no more steve vai wanna be....XD...a real master....god guitar...is there something else to say??? ido´t think so...

  • He's one of those leaps forward.

  • j'aime beaucoup son toucher, les sonorités qu'il dégage, et sa technique !! son jeu émet de belles énergies.

  • Jesus, that stopped me in my tracks.

  • Dude its like a hymm!!!!

  • amazing....gotta get my allen wrenches out and raise my action

  • beautiful in so many ways, what a find!

  • holy shit.

  • Hero!

  • This is A M A Z I N G

  • Looks live Steve Vai with his head down.lol

  • Awesome.

  • Wonderfu,l wonderful player.

  • Never heard anyone play a slide as beautifully or as gracefully as Sonny does here. A real master of art.

  • I wish he would teach me to play slide just for an hour... he just seems like such a wealth of knowledge, he could teach me SO much.

  • such a phenominal player

  • Excellent!!!!

  • wow this truly sounds great

  • wow

  • how does he do the thing at 0:44?

  • just lightly touch the strings.

  • Place the slide over a good harmonic position( he is using 12 position). Don't mute on the neck side of the slide, palm mute so that nothing rings on the bridge side, and strum as hard as you can so that everything will ring on the head side. with palm down it wont ring, but lift off and it will.

  • Eric Clapton about Sonny Landreth:"He is probably the most underestimated musician on the planet, and also probably one of the most advanced."

  • @Akuyoung Go watch some Jack Pearson videos and his slide playing...Clapton doesn't know what advanced musicianship is. Not knocking Landreth, but this is a very worked out type of playing

  • @Chromatype "Worked out type of playing?" Have you ever seen anybody play on the other side of the slide before Sonny. . .No, because Sonny invented this style of playing.

  • @Chromatype "worked out"? You are misinformed. He really never lines a tune the same way twice.

Agree about Clapton, though, but at least he knows when he is licked!

  • He blew London away last Thursday at the Relentless Garage.

  • If that's not the most unique technique out there...I'll eat my fender

  • Amazing... I thought I was a fair slide player, until I discovered Sonny and realized just how far I have to go. How the hell does he mute the strings with his right hand and get them to ring out again like that? (3.10)

  • He doesn't totally flatten his hand he just uses the side and hits it with a little enery, when you add decent output pickups and you can do that

  • Saw him tonight in New Orleans. ROCKED THE FUCKING CITY!! People were dancing in the balconies behind his stage!

  • Nice playing yoda.

  • this man is just ridiculous. i saw him in milwaukee over the summer and i was PRAYING he would play this, but no luck :( i love how he can make his guitar almost sound like a ukulele in some parts. simply incredible.

  • wow... great sounding stuff... not just flashy... pretty melodies in this tune

  • He's the Andres Segovia of slide guitar. One of the only guitarists to say something FRESH on guitar for decades...and to do it all with humility.

  • I'm a fan! Great, great playing!

  • The Greatest Slide Player Of All Time.Period

  • I saw him live about a month ago, my god it was the best concert I've ever been to by 10 miles, he's a musical genious.

  • Isn't it ironic when people misspell the word 'genius'?

  • I am a fan forever. Incredible, absolutely incredible...

  • Just unbelievable! When I grow up I wanna play like Sonny Landreth..

  • A wonder to behold. Simply amazing!!!

  • If God were a guitar player, he'd be Sonny Landreth.

  • I just saw Sonny and the band at the Fargo Blues Festival on July 31st. I was leaning against the stage about ten feet away from him like a little kid. There is nobody better....nobody.

  • yes there are...many actually...Jack Pearson eats Sonny for breakfast without even trying...Sonny is not an improvisor, he is more of a lick player with a large back of tricks...big difference...listen to more people before you start claiming you know who the best is...there is NO ONE person who is the best..ever..always someone with a line you can't play

  • Sonny is one of a kind,in both the style of his playing and his down to earth good guy attitude he shares with everyone..just a great musician and person...see him if you can..

  • Amazing! What else can u say?

  • Some seriously innovative ideas with harmonics right there. What a player.

  • Yeah I was thinking the same thing. That tapped harmonics trick at .44 sounds incredible - very unguitar like.

  • Sounds like the guitar is crying starting at 2:19

  • saw him live and I am still impress..just great piece of work

  • Absolutely spellbinding.

  • Beautiful piece - wonderful playing! What an expressive and original style!!

  • OMG!!! So cool, so good =D

  • innovative.. never seen anything like that on a guitar, ive been playing for 5yrs..

  • take a listen to stanley jordan, I thought the same thing when a friend took me to one of his concerts.floored me

  • This is the proof, that it is not about gear. It's about your phrasing. This is through a tiny practice amp, and still he has a great tone. Amazing.

  • Painting a picture on a guitar.... How nice is that eh? ;+)

  • How is he making that sound at o:43? I simpply don't get it?

  • Notice in the chord right before (0:42), he puts as much energy as possible into the strings with a really hard pick rake while using the slide to create a 12th-fret open harmonic... Think of the string vibrating in nodes, so the string vibrates freely on both sides of the slide, but the primary node (vibration between the bridge & tailpiece) is prevented (so the fundamental frequency consists of 2 waves... one on each side of the slide.)

  • The string is now vibrating at 1-octave. He then takes his pinky and lightly touches at the midpoint between the slide & nut (the second octave) then again at a sub-node approximately above the front pickup.

    Regards.
