  • Does ayone have a video of a spectogram of Windowlicker they could upload? From what I've heard there is some spiral somewhere in the song.

  • @PTKrzystek is at the end of the song... (i´ve been looking for that spectrogram too)

  • mind exploded

  • ΔMi−1 = −∂Σn=1NDi[n][Σj∈C{i}Fji[n − 1] + Fexti[[n−1]].

  • @TomMunster im 12 and what is this

  • @royercrafter lol math gets confusing in high school

  • Some of the lines look like midi notes in cubase.... look around 0:50, one bit looks like a chord.

  • BRAIN EXPLOSION

  • This video is so trippy that my mom came into my room and said to stop doing drugs, but I said it's just youtube. But the fucked up thing is that I don't have a computer in my room, and my mom died 2 years ago.

  • @Ifyouknowwhatimsayin QUIT DOING DRUGS. Or talk to your guy. He might be mixin' stuff in dur.

  • trippy

  • This is CREEPY D:

  • This is amazing. I'm mindfucked now and look forward to having nightmares in spectogram format.

  • @HappyQuark can you tell me how you write that weird title fore the song?

  • I diddnt know anyone's face could sound this good ! :D

  • so can someone tell me what that equation is for?

  • i love the track!!!!

  • best song ever in a spetrogram program. i say, Mr. James.

  • If I were a girl... I'd have all of his children. Like 20. And they'd all look like out of Come To Daddy (Pappy mix).

  • I like the part with the tree that yells: WUUUUUUUUSSSS!!!!! at 4:17

  • cool

  • my equation: 7\ + d-.-b = :D

  • @GeoMcEvan I put that in and got a syntax error. Help?

  • There is something about this song that sticks with you. I can't stop listening to it! The spectogram thing he did is very cool, although just listening you wouldn't know when he used it because it flows so well with his music, fucking love this guy.

  • How the fuck he did that.

  • Goddammit

  • 5:29 onward sounds like someone farted and then died a very painful death.

  • What spectrogram software was used????

  • AbsoFuckingLutly Amazing Shit! Am I right or am i right?

  • The "equation" as the title of this song, is the partial differential of the different components of the Fourier transform, basically it represents the rate of change of audible frequencies of the music if I am not mistaken, I do have a degree in Physics from a respectable college after all. Richard James is a true Genius.

  • I'm requesting this song next time I'm at the strip club

  • you know maybe there's a lifeform out therewho can listen to what we can actually look at, so they can "hear faces"... scary ö__ö

  • What program were you using? I can't seem to find any good spectrograph programs.

  • How would you like to be the first person to discover THAT!? I would have pooped myself at 5:30

  • This answer is probably a little late, but the program used in the video is called Sonic Visualizer.

  • I swear at 1:25 it says "Lube E3 E3". O.o

  • i just shit my pants

  • ah.... my daily dose of vitamin face

  • in this equation X = aphex twin face

  • the first person to discover this must have shit themselves. literally

  • @Seagerash the music producers found this out

  • he literally implanted his face into your ears. lol aphex twin.

  • How the hell did he do this...?

  • Haah! That is a damn bit creepy, but cool. Never knew about that before - thanks for the vid!

  • holy shit, hes a true master

  • *upon seeing the face*

No, Mom, I wasn't planning on sleeping tonight. Or ever...

  • Aphex Twin, original rick roller.

  • If I didn't expect it, that face coupled with the sound would terrify me.

  • aphex twin... how does he come up with such brilliance?

  • @Skutieos7 Such creepy, creepy brilliance. :D

  • 5:28 for face!!

  • probably already answered this, but which program did you use to do this? i've searched and searched and can't find a thing

  • the face doesnt really look like aphex twin, yes i know it has an evil grin, but thats about the only similarity,i think he edited the image before putting it into the spectrogram

  • reminds me of pink floyd's "atom heart mother" ...

  • @tetavo atom heart didn't have anything like this in it, did it? It's one of my favorite albums, so if you know something spiffy about it lemme know :D

  • @1800yolk just the suite, specifically "mind your throats, please," i.e. the noise section.

  • So what does the equiation mean?

  • @MisterOjeteMoreno It means the devil wants your soul. And your #2 combo meal from McDonalds.

  • Thanks for this!

  • Hey guys, i seem to be an idiot for this kind of stuff, and can't say I understand it completely. When i found this video I realized aphex twin was a motherfucking genious, but then i saw the related video to the right; it's this fag who "used a program to turn my face into sound". Someone please tell me Aphex twin "painted" that face by turning sound into images, not the other way around. Id be sooo disappointed.

  • @juggernaut1990 Both. He put a face silhouette and then edited the thing by changing the colors on the relative frequencies than you can see on the left. It's the color intensity that gives more intensity on a particular frequency. He tried to make an "organized" sound as better as he could

  • @juggernaut1990 We could say that the middle line is the scanner line: It scans each segment and it "plays" the more intense segments on different heights that represent the sound frequency

  • @juggernaut1990 Nope. It's exactly as "the fag" mentioned. Theres a free program called Coagula that does this in like 2 clicks. Although, i will say Apex definitely had to do some tweaking to get it to look this good.

  • @juggernaut1990 Aphex Twin used an old program called MetaSynth to convert the image into audio. I remember when the software came out. It was a good technique to come up with strange unexpected textured sounds.

  • the first who discovered that must be shitted&pissed in his pants...

  • here's formula:

    ΔMi−1 = −αΣn=1NDi[n][Σj∈C{i}Fji[n − 1] + Fexti[n−1]]

  • On my cd this is known as formula.

  • @MrMalthus80 ΔMi−1 = −αΣn=1NDi[n][Σj∈C{i}Fji[n − 1] + Fexti[n−1]]

  • crazy shit :P

  • i want to like aphex because he clearly is a genius but i just dont get him as an artist

  • what software is used to show the spectrogram in this video? thank you

  • at first i didnt like this track, cuz i thought it was a bunch of creepy noisez, but after i listened to it couple more times i totally fell in luv with it

wicked to dance to as well

  • thom??

    gracias

  • Thom sent me here

  • it can be seen on foobar

  • it can be seen on Fubbar

  • Hey, what software did you use?

  • ΔMi−1 = −∂Σn=1NDi[n][Σj∈C{i}Fji[n − 1] + Fexti[[n−1]]

Does anyone know what this formula's even for??

    o;;O

  • If you extrapolate and think of:

∆ as Aphex Twin (the arrow symbol used in some of the albums); Mi as "Am I"; -1 as "Minus One"; = as "Equals", you get:

"Aphex Twin Am I Minus One Equals"...

    ... A flawed result.

    −α∑Di[η]∑Fji[η−1]+Fexti[η−1]

Where you read Fji, should be Fiji.

There's an "i" missing. could it be that part of him (his twin?) is missing from the equation? Richard did mention losing his twin. In fact, that is why he named the project "Aphex Twin".

  • You are both geniuses

  • It's an equation based on Fourier Transform rules/laws

    Look it up on Wikipedia

  • @an1sh ah, that would make sense, because taking the fourier transform of the song (essentially the spectrogram) would reveal an image of a face.

aphex twin is a genius :)

  • @tetavo Not surprised he did something with Fourier Transforms considering he studied engineering during his schooling years.

  • lmao.... this is about the most awesome thing ever witnessed.

  • Haha cool video and good music!

  • It's nothing special. There's probably a program made for drawing things in a spectrogram and hearing them.

It would be really cool if some shape or drawing made musical sense. This don't. Great music btw.

  • Actually this video ispired me to try something you are talking about and it is quite cool. You can draw for example a person speaking (its a bit wierd voice tho).

  • Awesome, creepy, but awesome. I love Aphex twin. :D

  • Aphex Twin: Going where no musician has gone before.

    o;;O

  • oH!Thax a work on every beat !

  • wow, nice :D i once discovered a weird tapping tempo by steve vai that sounded the same backwards than normal :D wanna see it?

  • What lossless format did you use? FLAC?

    That was super cool, btw.

  • I originally had the file as a FLAC but unfortunately the spectrogram software didn't like that so I was forced to convert it to OGG. The quality is about as good as can be without having the raw audio.

  • Unfortunately the quality of the video and the sound was significantly better before it was posted to youtube. I always seem to notice how badly the site butchers the video/audio when ever I upload a video with any sort of importance placed on the quality. Oh well.

  • this is just weird.

    who found this out?
