Piper's Response to Warren's Teaching at Desiring God National Conference 2010

I used to follow John Piper's teaching until I saw a teaching where he made it clear that he believed that Israel today was not a part of God's plan. That was all I needed to stop listening to this man. The fact of God's dealings with Israel today are obvious. When a teacher begins to speak wrongly of God's covenants and character then I believe that this kind of confusion will follow. I can't believe Piper saying this about Mr. Warren. On another message I clearly heard Warren saying that churches need to be wise and and preach bible too much because believers only retain 10% of is heard in Sundays. And he also let Mormons and homosexual preach in his mega church. Come on Piper, please do not associate with this false teacher. Stick around with John MacArthur and Al Mohler that is were you belong.

For it pleased God through the foolishness of preaching to save sinners! Very disappointed to see John Piper telling sinners to listen to 'Rick'. John Piper is clearly a man of God but he must disassociate himself with this nonsense. I am very sad :-(

Warren is not of God and maybe Piper is not too. His work was solid up until this time with Warren.

We need to ask if the Apostle Paul would say Warren your an amazing communicator, or would he rebuke him as a wolf n sheep's clothing.Then what would the Apostles have to say about Pipers alliance with him? I am sadly coming to see Piper as a reformed Olsteen or Olsteen with sound doctrine. If he continues down this road he will deceive the ones Olsteen could never deceive.

@gdmusick Fabulous point and sharply put. Did I just hear this this clip right? One of the most influential pastors in the world did just protect and support Rick Warren- I'm not loosing my mind am I? Or maybe now I am. I must have replayed it 4 or 5 times in hopes that I somehow misunderstood, but no such luck. I'm in disbelief and cannot put this together. C'mon Piper- millions of peoples lives are on your hands.

@akdolphin8 Totally agree !! The only thing I could think of was compromise. Remember Peter denied Christ 3 times. Piper was in overdrive, even ecstatic, in his complimetary remarks about Warren. Hey, am I missing something here ? If Rick Warren is not Apostate then nobody is. The sad thing is that many will end up in Hell because of his teachings. Jesus Christ will judge us all including Warren & Piper. I pray for their souls. We are in dire straits when you listen to that lot !

Can't believe Piper, I used to say I learned so much truth from this teacher and that teacher. But now I know the lord is the teacher and giver of truth.Don't let this discourage you believers, if it does you just need to repent for not giving God the Glory for whatever truth you received and attributing it to men. Rest your faith on Christ' truth not on"great" teachers.

Wow. I can't believe Piper said Warren is "an incredible communicator". I've never heard a more sloppy, Scripture-mangeling message. And why would you invite someone to speak at your church, whom you had never ( by his own admission) heard preach before? So disappointing.

It's very sad to read these comments....people speaking so harshly towards someone they've never heard speak, never attended his church, never seen all the great things that members of his church have accomplished on their thousands of missions trips, etc, etc etc.....there is A LOT more to Pastor Rick than Purpose Driven Life.

I think it shows that John Piper has matured over time. First he has Mark Driskill, who, based on my six months attending his church, is a classic cult leader on DG. Then Rick Warren, the classic leader of the church for the non-believers. Stay tuned, next year it will be the pope and finally the year after the 12th mullah of Islam. Rick Warren makes peace with Muslims just like Rome. He never preach Sin, Lust, Repentance, The Blood of Christ, Hell, Satan, Redemption, Salvation...or any Systematic Theology. The first thing Jesus said in Matthew 24 was, "Beware of men." How true! -- my Jesus and His KJV is the only thing I need. Far too many words and too few scriptures came out from this short video clip. Where is your bible? What saith the Lord about this Mr. Warren that fit in un-saved people with un-saved doctrine!

The greatest sermons ever preached were preached by uneducated men who could not effectively convey a message through their mouth but were under the power of the Spirit and relied on that Spirit as opposed to their words.

Rick Warren has childlike faith?

This whole mess is wrong. Everything about this video is utterly wrong. There is nothing being done here that is in any way similar to what the apostles said or did.

They even believe Rick Warren operates church correctly and has childlike faith? He is used mightily of God? I would argue that he is used mightily of Satan.....but either way prayer is necessary not laughter.

So unlike Paul they reference their works, accomplishments and titles? People in India are getting beaten to near death for Christ and these comfortable book writers get any amount of glory? Where are their SCARS?

Then they go on to say, like that pharisee, "Thank God we are not like that man" instead of looking to themselves, assembling a fast, and weeping before God as intercessors in an attempt to humble Warren they laugh at him.

The state of the Church has never been worse.

@newbirth35: I understand how you felt about Piper "lauding" Warren. But if you continue to listen to the latter part of Piper's comment, he still disagrees with the way Warren teaches: pragmatism or activism in teaching.

@doxapriest Please tell me that John Piper no longer hangs with Rick Warren? I was somewhat shocked that he even invited Rick Warren (A False Teacher) to his Desiring God conference. When has Rick Warren ever desired God? His Purpose Driven Lie is a book filled with philosophy/psychology/self help apart from the Word of God and when used is often twisted.

I am throwing away John Piper's books. This really saddens me.
