Good combination, and nice job. I have the same Dean Playmate bass that JoCo is playing, and it sounds just like that, even if I don't use a pick. Actually, it's hard to make it sound better, but it was really inexpensive, so I can't complain.

Jay Leonhardt has a great song called "It's Impossible to Sing and Play the Bass" about exactly that.

Yah its freaking hard most bass parts even forward ones are so far off from the melody you brain needs to split in two. But there are plenty of famous bassist that do it. Sting, Billy Idol Gene Simmons, Mark Hoppus, Paul McCartney, Lemmy, Les Claypool, Geddy Lee, Mark King.

I love all the songs from this set he did with Kristen as a guest, but I feel she was under-mixed in every one of them. The uke needs a stronger sound, she was drown out by his "bass" part.
